Chapter Text
Wither was walking to school, as usual. His head down as he watched his own movements, the bright, beautiful moonlight hitting his back.
The streets we're surprisingly quiet, mostly because Players would stay in their bases during the late hour.
The silence was almost deafening, footsteps of his own could be heard hitting the concrete floor of the streets.
Just then, the silence was broken by the sound of running coming from behind him. He looks up, turning his head to see his classmate and best friend, Skeleton, practically sprinting to the school grounds, which puzzled Wither slightly since class didn't start until atleast 7.30 PM.
He decided not to question it and kept on walking, not much in a mood to strike up a conversation, although, he wouldn't mind if it was from Skeleton.. He kept on walking, not paying much attention on what the latter was doing.
But his thoughts were not long after interrupted by Skeleton suddenly pouncing onto him, causing him to stumble onto the concrete floor, his face hitting the ground.
" Heya, Wither! " The shorter one says with an imminent tone of joy. Looking down at the darker skeleton with his bright smile practically radiating off him.
" Ugh! What was that for.!?- " Wither grumbles, picking himself off the ground to turn and face the other.
" It's too early for your dumb antics, Skel.. " The taller one mumbles out, pushing the shorter one off of him as he picks himself up, dusting off his pants. Skeleton stands up not long after him, smiling cheekily at the other.
" I thought I'd scare you! Did it work? " The other responded.
" No. " Wither says with his usual, dry responses. He was never one to have fun or be optimistic, he was always known as the odd one between the two.
Skeleton's expression fell slightly, pouting at the response, " Oh c'mon! It had to have done SOMETHING!- " He whines out, clearly not satisfied.
Wither sighs, continuing on his walk to his destination, " I don't know why you try, it's not gonna work. "
Skeleton quickly falls into step beside Wither, his whining voice cried out, " You're no fun! I don't get why you're so dull! "
Wither rolls his eyes in annoyance, but found his whining somewhat amusing.
They continued their walk towards the school building in comfortable silence, the only thing to be heard being their footsteps on the concrete and soft breathing.
--
The building soon enough came into view, the bright lights shining out of the windows. They approached the school, entering the building to be greeted by crowds of monsters bustling through the hallways, their unified chatting and laughter echoing through the building.
Wither groaned slightly, already annoyed at how crowded it was. Skeleton, on the other hand, didn't seem to mind and continued on walking, expecting Wither to follow behind.
Wither hesitantly dove further into the hallway, trying to get past the crowds as he searched for his class, " Gods, I hate crowds.. " Skeleton chuckles at his complaint, quickly grabbing his wrist and leading him through, " It's not so bad! You just like seeing the bad side of things.. besides, it's not like you're gonna die. "
" My dignity already died here long ago. " The taller huffs, but lets Skeleton drag him along, somewhat trusting his sense of navigation.
They arrive in their classroom not long after, sitting at the very back row of the classroom next to a window. Wither was, of course, sitting beside the window, while Skeleton sat on the row seat.
Their class didn't start for another hour — plus their classroom being somewhat empty — so, Skeleton took out a sketchbook from his bag, and looked over at Wither.
" Hey, Wither.. " Skeleton started, looking up at the latter with a pleading expression, " Would you.. mind if I drew you in my sketchbook? "
Wither glanced over at the other, his face onto his left hand as he raises an eyebrow in curiosity, " Don't you already? " He asked in a sarcastic tone, turning to face Skeleton.
Skeleton rolls his eyes at the sarcastic remark, knowing this is not unusual behavior from Wither, " God forbid I wanna draw my best friend. It's not like I wanna just draw you once and move on! "
" Alright, alright. No need to get all grumpy. " The taller chuckled out as he straightened his posture and looked over at Skeleton, his arms draped over the back of his chair, " What pose do you want me to do this time? "
" Just like this is fine. " Skeleton replied with a soft smile, going on to sketch out the current pose his friend was in. It wasn't unknown in the classroom that Skeleton could draw. Infact, a lot of his classmates praised him for it.
Skeleton never personally saw his talent as something special. He always thought of it as a hobby he did to pass the time, and something he wanted to get better at.
As Skeleton was absorbed in drawing the person beside him, time had passed and more of his fellow classmates started to pour into the classroom.
Zombie soon had walked in and his gaze drifted towards Skeleton, his expression filled with curiosity.
Zombie starts walking over to their table, leaning over his shoulder from behind, " Whatcha doin'? " He said curiously in a somewhat teasing tone.
Skeleton jumps slightly at the sudden presence of his friend, but quickly calms down when he realizes who it is and his expression turns annoyed, " A little warning would've been nice, you know. " He huffs out, putting down his book and pencil to playfully shove Zombie, making him stumble back slightly.
Zombie lets out a small chuckle, ruffling Skeleton's hair as he teases him, " What? Did I scare you? Did little Skelly get spooked? "
" Buzz off, will you? " Skeleton retorts back as he pushes away Zombies hand to fix his hair, " I'm just drawing Wither, is all. "
Wither — who had been watching the whole exchange — let out a small hum in response, nodding at Zombie as a way of greeting him. Zombie smiles and waves in return, " Hey, Wither! Still as gloomy as ever, huh? "
" What's up with both of you and being obnoxiously loud at such an early hour? " He huffs out in annoyance, although there wasn't any real anger behind his tone.
" What? Can't spread my positive energy anymore? "
" Your positive energy is giving me a negative impact. "
" Jeez. Okay, hater.. " Zombie responds playfully at the other's grumpy remark.
Skeleton watches the them and can't help but chuckle at the exchange between two of his best friends, always finding the interaction between them amusing.
Of course, Skeleton would never admit it, but seeing his best friends banter like this always brings a smile to his face — whether it'd be brief or not. And either way, he always finds himself chasing after more moments like these.
