Work Text:

“Come on Abbie, I won’t wait forever.” Skell calls out from the bedroom. And I let out a groan from the kitchen as I started the microwave. “Hold your horses!” The microwave beeps as it then starts spinning the popcorn bag on its tray.

I grab a big bowl from the cupboard, I rinse it in the sink quickly, watching the water fall down the metallic bowl. A wipe the water off the bowl roughly with a hand towel, making sure that no popcorn gets soggy, gross.

“Jeez, how long does it take to pop popcorn?” Skell asks, I hear him shifting impatiently in the bed. “Get us a better microwave and it might be faster!” I reply, setting the bowl down as the popping of cornels fills the kitchen.

I stand in front of the microwave, watching the bag spin on the tray and the bag expanding slowly. The golden orange of the microwave heat was visible as I stared at the bag. I tapped my foot impatiently and let out a huff. “It really is time to buy a new microwave, this one works like it’s been through war.” I mumble to myself.

Finally, the microwave let out five, loud beeps to signal it was done. I pop the microwave door open and grab the bag by its top so I don't burn myself. I shook the bag as I traveled the kitchen to the metallic bowl, some more cornels popped as I shook the bag repeatedly.

I ripped the bag open and poured the popcorn into the bowl, metallic sounds of the bowl and unpopped cornels meeting filled my ears. I grunted as I touched the hot bag before I quickly tossed the bag out.

The savoury smell was enjoyable, certainly made the wait worth it. I grabbed some popcorn seasoning and poured it on, dill was the flavour I went for. I tossed the batch around, making sure to mix the seasoning into it. I left the seasoning on the counter as I picked the bowl up with one hand.

I headed to the bedroom, the lights were out, the only light was the soft one coming from the TV. I looked at Skell who was already in bed, waiting. “Oh, finally, it took ya long enough!” He said with a playful smile.

I rolled my eyes lightheartedly at his words. “I don't remember you ever being this impatient, y’know?” I comment, smiling slightly as I climbed into bed beside him.

I quickly settled as I leaned against Skell, tucking my head under his chin, I placed the warm bowl in between us. I feel as Skell's hand wrapped around my shoulder, which made me cuddle more into his soft body. I listen as Skell let out a content hum. I chuckled softly and turned my attention on the TV

The TV glowed brightly. The movie name ‘Anaconda’ was on, ready for someone to hit play. “Ready?” Skell asks as he grabs the remote from the bedside table. I nod and watch the TV screen intently.

The movie starts. “Remind me why we paid money for this movie?” Skell asked. “Well, firstly, you wanted to see it, second it has jack black, third it has giant snakes?” I say simply, that reasoning was good enough.

Skell shrugged slightly, he then reached into the popcorn bowl, eating some. “..Are you kidding my Abbs, you used the dill?” Skell pipes up. I grin and hum. “Of course.” I say, faking innocence, but I couldn’t stop the chuckle that escaped my throat.

Skell just groans, but continues to eat the popcorn no matter the flavouring.

I couldn’t help but find myself getting distracted from the movie easily. The movie was good but I just have a short attention span. Skell noticed and snorted. “Wow, how often do you sit down and watch movies or a show?” He asks.

I sigh. “They don't keep my attention well enough, I’d say its the producers fault!” I argue. Skell lets out an amused huff, I then feel his thumb swipe back and forth on my shoulder. I smile and rest my head on his shoulder, focusing back on the TV.

Surprisingly, the movie got more interesting the further I watched, which surprisingly kept my attention. The movie was funny, had good humour, (To me atleast) and a cool plot.

At the end of the movie I noticed Skell was asleep. I smiled fondly and put the popcorn bowl on the bedside table, my movements careful to not wake Skell up.

I switch the channel to spotify, putting on my sleep playlist, I turn the volume down. I shifted Skell on the bed so he was laying down more comfortably. I didn’t want either of our necks hurting in the morning, because I’d have to deal with the complaining.

When I laid him down, I made sure I didn’t accidentally hurt his wings or something. I watched his cat-like tail flick every couple of moments. I smile and lay down beside him, cuddling right up to him.

Eventually even I fell asleep contently, soft melodies filled the room from the TV, the room very quiet and peaceful.
