This was not a good idea.
That was the first thought that ran through Shuichi’s head at even the mention of playing seven minutes in heaven.
Iruma, of course, had been the one to randomly mention the idea of playing it. She was typically the bad influence anyway. Saying something like, “the class was full of too many losers,” and that, “most of you probably have never kissed anyone.” Which to be fair—probably wasn’t too far off..
After some discussion, everyone remembered that there was a small closet full of random school supplies in the corner. Sending Gokuhara and Shinguji, the tallest people in the class, to see if it would fit two people. After they came back and confirmed it’s big enough for them to move around slightly, everyone moved the desks to the sides of the room to start forming a circle.
And now, he was trapped into sitting in a circle with the rest of his classmates, nervously waiting for Iruma to find something to spin, landing on just a random pen she found lying on the ground somewhere, he was pretty sure it was his pen but she probably wouldn’t care either way.
Shuichi anxiously picked at his nails, just hoping this wouldn’t last too long. Suddenly he felt someone put a gentle hand on his shoulder, snapping him out of his thoughts, which was good since they were rapidly going downhill. He looked beside him, finding Momota looking at him with a worried smile, tilting his head slightly.
Shuichi just gave him a small thumbs up, hands shaking slightly but hopefully he wouldn’t notice it. He drew his attention back to the middle of the circle, remembering that they were gonna play the game, he sighed, already tired of this.
Looking around, he saw most friends sitting next to each other, probably discussing who they would or wouldn’t want to get trapped with.
Wait.
Who would Shuichi want to get picked with? Well, preferably no one, since he didn’t even want to play that much. But if he had to go in with someone.. Probably someone he was even slightly close with, like Akamatsu or Momota. They didn’t put any rules on needing to do anything in the room so they would probably just talk like normal friends! They would probably be expecting at least a small kiss though, right?
Oh god.
Oh god.
Was he going to kiss somebody?
Before he could even think about that too much, Iruma yelled something out and spun the pen. Oh no.
The first time, it landed on Harukawa, who seemed to immediately tense up and scowl at Iruma, who was snickering behind her hand. Spinning again, it barely passed Shuichi, landing on Momota, who was beside him still.
Shuichi was pretty sure the two were mildly close, at least, Harukawa seemed to.. tolerate him, which was better than most.
They both got up, ignoring the sound of the rest of their classmates giggling at them. Shuichi smiled at Momota, waving at him as he watched them both get into the small supply closet.
“What do you think they’re gonna do in there?” Akamatsu whispered, making Shuichi jump and look at her. She giggled at his reaction, “sorry, didn’t mean to startle you!”
He blinked at her, feeling warmth rising up onto his cheeks in embarrassment. “No—it’s fine!” He said, waving his hand in dismissal. “I’m not sure..” he looked down at the ground, wondering what he would do before realizing he and Momota probably wouldn’t do the same thing. “I doubt it’s gonna be something too interesting..” He laughed quietly, eyeing the closet for a moment before looking back at the blonde.
“Yeah probably not,” she leaned back onto her palms, looking at the clock on the wall. “Only 5 minutes left,” Shuichi heard her mutter.
“It probably seems longer when you’re inside the closet..” He said absentmindedly, looking at a random wall.
“Probably..” She agreed, nodding.
After a few minutes of silence other than the others whispering between themselves, the two chosen finally came back, sitting back down in their spots in the circle.
Shuichi noticed that Momota had a faint red mark on his right cheek that he was gently rubbing, sighing as he sat down.
“What happened?” Shuichi asked, pointing at his face.
“Oh, this?” He questioned, pointing at his own cheek. “I kinda.. tried to get too close to Harukawa and she slapped me.” He laughed, shrugging it off.
“..What?” Shuichi stared at Momota, who simply chuckled.
“Yeah! We were inside and I accidentally lost my balance and almost fell on her!” Ok.. Sure. Shuichi thought, noticing that Iruma was already grabbing the pen to spin again.
“Next round!” She shouted, holding up the pen before slamming it back onto the ground and spinning it again.
Shuichi watched as the pen spun, as it started slowing down, Shuichi got increasingly nervous at the pen getting awfully close to him, there’s no way, right?
“Saihara!” Someone yelled out, everyone turning their heads at him as someone spun the pen again to see who he would be trapped with.
Oh no—oh nonono.. Shuichi swallowed as the pen started losing speed once again, this cannot be happening. There’s no way he already got chosen, right? He closed his eyes, nervous to see who was gonna get picked.
When he looked back down, the pen had finally stopped at someone—
Oh.
It landed on Ouma. Kokichi Ouma. Shuichi wasn’t necessarily friends with him, but they were close if you think about it. Because despite Ouma constantly messing around with everyone, tricking and lying to them, it was obvious he didn’t have any truly bad intentions behind them—at least most of the time. He also was very close with Shuichi specifically, oftentimes in a literal way, because that boy doesn’t seem to have a sense of personal space whatsoever.
“O-ouma.” Shuichi said, looking over to where he was sitting.
____
Kokichi smiled brightly as the pen pointed directly at him, looking at Saihara who already looked slightly nervous. Of course, sometimes it seemed like looking nervous was his natural facial expression.
“My beloved Saihara-chan!” He cheered, already standing up and walking over to him. “Are you ready?” He winked, offering his hand.
Saihara looked up at him, eyes darting to the side as he took his hand, lifting himself up onto his feet. “Mhm..” He hummed in agreement, looking at Akamatsu for a moment before turning back to Kokichi, offering a small, nervous smile.
They walked over to the closet, it looked like it was pretty small, but probably enough for them both to fit. Kokichi opened the door for Saihara, bowing slightly. “Ladies first!”
It seemed like Saihara was going to say something back before cutting himself off and sighing, just going inside.
As Kokichi followed behind him into the small space, he closed and locked the door behind him. The darkness in the room left made the atmosphere even more tense. The only thing you could hear was them both quietly breathing and the whispering in the classroom outside.
“Did you know I rigged the game so I would end up in here with you?” Kokichi said, breaking the silence that was overtaking the room.
“Really?” Saihara questioned, before quickly adding, “no you didn’t, you’re lying, aren’t you?”
“Nishishi.. you know me too well, Saihara-chan!” He laughed, going quiet for a moment before asking. “Well.. What do you want to do now?”
Kokichi heard Saihara’s breath hitch for a moment, taking a moment to think. “I—I’m not sure.. We technically don’t have to do anything, right?”
Kokichi hummed, realizing he was technically right, Iruma never mentioned any rules about what you had to do in the closet.
“But that’s boring..” He whined, rolling his eyes despite Saihara most likely not even being able to see due to the lack of light in the room. “We shouldn’t just sit here doing nothing!”
After a second of silence Kokichi spoke up again.
“We could kiss..”
It was almost funny the sound that Saihara made, a mixture of shock, embarrassment, and nervousness.
“W-What?” He asked, after recovering from that initial shock.
“I’m kidding! Jeez.. you really don’t have a sense of humor, huh?”
“Right..” Saihara whispered, voice quieter than usual.
“Unless you do want to?” Kokichi teased, leaning slightly forward, getting closer to Saihara.
Saihara took a small step back, hitting the wall behind him. “I—huh?” He stuttered, not even forming words anymore.
“Well?” Kokichi smiled, taking a step closer to him, invading more of his personal space, which was already not much in this small closet. “Do you?”
There was nothing better than seeing Saihara’s reactions to things, he was always so easy to fluster and embarrass. Kokichi always made sure to be careful with what he did, of course! Maybe even more than with the others.
With this, however, it was a bit more risky. Sure, Kokichi jokingly flirted and joked with Saihara sometimes, but this.. Was this really a joke anymore? He always called Saihara things like, pretty, cute, among other things, and, well, he really did mean it.
Kokichi stood at the ends of his feet, actively being reminded of how much shorter he was than the detective. Now that his eyes were more used to the darkness, he could make out Saihara’s face more. Eyes avoiding his gaze, looking to the side.
Kokichi could hear his breath, quick and unsteady. It was obvious he was nervous, now what he wanted to know was if it was in a good or bad way.
“I’ll back off if you want me to.” Kokichi whispered, noticing how quiet Saihara had gone. His foot was already reaching back, ready for any sign of true discomfort.
A moment went by, Kokichi took that as a sign to back away slightly. But— before he could back away again, he felt a hand softly grip his arm. “No.. It’s okay..” Saihara’s soft voice spoke up finally.
Kokichi’s smile grew slightly, Saihara was still looking away from his eyes, but he had a small smile on his face.
Kokichi placed a hand onto Saihara’s cheek. His face was warm—like, extremely warm. He heard a small gasp from the taller boy, tensing for a moment before leaning slightly into his touch.
The hand on his arm let go, moving up to tangle in his hair instead.
It was slightly awkward, obvious that the both of them were inexperienced with this, slowly figuring it out in the moment.
The two stared at each other for a moment, Saihara finally making eye contact.
As he leaned down slightly, his face only centimeters away from Kokichi’s. Nervous to move any closer or farther.
Kokichi closed his eyes before pulling Saihara closer and finally kissing him. The kiss was gentle, their lips barely touched. Yet it felt like the room was on fire, a shaky exhale leaving his mouth before kissing again, this time a bit more confident in what he was doing.
Kokichi tilted his head slightly, bringing himself closer before feeling Saihara’s other hand get placed on his hip, keeping him close. Kokichi wrapped his arms around his neck.
“That was nice..” Saihara whispered, voice slightly shaky from nervousness.
Kokichi hummed, “very.” He smiled, “again?”
Saihara didn’t answer, simply pressing his lips against Kokichi’s. He let out a pleased sigh, melting into the kiss. Kokichi gently rubbed his thumb against Saihara’s cheek, feeling the warmth of his face. Saihara smiled, deepening the kiss more, his lips starting to move, finding a rhythm as Kokichi followed along.
They moved against each other, small pants and breaths between kisses, happy sighs and soft groans filling the room. After a moment, they pulled back, remembering that they still needed to breathe.
Kokichi rested his head on Saihara’s shoulder, breathing quietly against his neck.
”I really like you, Saihara-chan” Kokichi whispered, breathing quietly.
Saihara’s breath hitched, slightly surprised. “I—.. I really like you too, Ouma-kun..” He whispered back.
They stayed like that for a while, simply breathing quietly while holding each other close. After a few minutes, they heard someone outside yell about the time and then footsteps coming up close to the door.
They backed away from each other, giving one last look before unlocking the door. Kokichi’s smile immediately going back to his ‘normal’ one, his hair slightly messy. Saihara followed him out, his face still slightly pink on the cheeks.
After sitting, Akamatsu gave him a look, she definitely knew.
