Work Text:
Jisuk has made entrances into something of an art.
Y’know. Saunter in. Pause at the door. Lean against the frame, scan the room, assert his dominance. Hands in pockets. Continue sauntering.
Boom. People intimidated. Entrance made.
Forget the art, actually. He’s got it down to a science. A routine. He exudes coolness so naturally, he doesn’t even have to think about it.
This entrance, however, is decidedly not routine. It’s not planned. It’s not natural. Instead, it’s messy and spur-of-the-moment and probably really stupid and incredibly dangerous, but hey! He’s committed now. He’s Jisuk Yoo of Shinhwa. No way is he letting two lone Awakened, one injured, one a newbie, deal with two dangerous Awakened users by themselves.
Jisuk exhales. The little puff of air makes him feel better. It reminds him what his power is. What he’s capable of. Air is everywhere, surrounding him, licking his face, pumping in and out of his lungs. He can sense the miniscule eddies and fluctuations of the air currents in exquisite detail. Air is everywhere, and he is its master.
He is wind. He is a roaring gust and a howling tempest and a shrieking tornado all rolled up into one.
He is Jisuk Yoo. He’s got this.
So. Hands in pockets. Cocky air. Saunter in.
Jisuk makes sure his air is casual but threatening, his expression bored but bladed. His whole appearance screams, don’t mess with me. If you take on Jisuk, you take on Shinhwa. And if you take on Shinhwa, you take on his big sis. And Jiyoung could be really scary when she wanted to be.
It’s when he realizes that the two Awakened users who are currently kidnapping Wooin (who looks really out of it, by the way) are in fact the Klein brothers—known international criminals, top-of-the-line sickos—that he starts to feel really out of his depth.
Ah. Okay.
&*%*$&$*#%^)(#@&%$@**^)@!*#($&%.
Welp, this just got really bad really fast. Jisuk knows that as good as he is, if the Klein brothers are as powerful as rumor says, he’s no match for them. It’s time to get out of here, and get out of here fast.
Speaking of speed…Jisuk glances at Jiwoo. The best course of action is for Jiwoo to grab Wooin using his speed, and then book it out of there. Jisuk’s job will have to be to distract the Klein brothers, and to stall until his sister gets here.
“Hey, Jiwoo Seo, listen up,” Jisuk says lowly, speaking out of the corner of his mouth. He quickly briefs Jiwoo on the plan.
“What? What about you?” Jiwoo asks, looking very worried about Jisuk, when he should really be worrying about himself. This dude. Jisuk doesn’t know how he does it.
“I’m just gonna distract them. Once you’re gone, I’ll retreat too.” He looks at the Klein brothers and narrows his eyes. “I’m quite confident in my speed.”
Jiwoo doesn’t say anything, and Jisuk glances over to see him practically tearing up at the thought of putting Jisuk in danger.
Jisuk scoffs. “Pfft. You’re the newbie awakened one here. Worry about yourself.” He smirks, and then turns to face the Klein brothers, commanding the air to coalesce in a swirling, razor-sharp gusts of air that coil around his body. He shouts over his shoulder, straining to be heard as the wind picks up.
“WE DON’T HAVE TIME, SO GET MOVING!!!”
—
Jisuk wouldn’t ever admit it, but right now he really, really, really wants his big sister.
The fight is going…eh. Not well.
Jisuk is barely holding his own, here. But he’s stubborn, and there are people who will get hurt if he doesn’t keep Klein #1 occupied, so he grits his teeth and keeps blasting wind.
At least Wooin and Jiwoo managed to get away, though Jisuk is very worried about where Klein #2 went to. Can’t worry about that now, though, not with Klein #1 trying to murder him.
Jisuk sucks in a sharp breath and curses as Klein lands a hit and blood streams down Jisuk’s arm. Sweat is pouring down his face, but he ignores it as he sends another volley of wind whipping towards Klein #1.
—
Jisuk…is…not processing. Right now.
What the fudge.
Did the cat—Jiwoo’s fat cat—just…just singlehandedly take out the older Klein brother? And then threaten to kill Jisuk if he told anyone anything about what he had just seen?
His cheek tingles where the cat slapped him, surprisingly strong for a fuzzy little cat paw.
No need to threaten him, honestly. Jisuk doubts anyone would believe him if he did tell the story. Jiyoung would probably just look at him in that calm way she has, and raise her eyebrow, and Jisuk would be shamed forever. Yeah, no thanks.
Jisuk shivers, and decides he’s going to think about this later when he’s in a place where he can scream into a pillow or punch a wall or something. He’s just finished getting to his feet, when Klein #1 moans and sits up.
Jisuk freezes. He stares at Klein with wide eyes. The only reason he doesn’t immediately start attacking him is because he’s crazy tired and his brain still hasn’t gotten over the fact that that obese tabby has crazy frickin’ electric powers.
(Again. What the fudge.)
Klein #1 seems equally disoriented. He blinks at Jisuk, and then looks down at his injured state.
“Wow. You did this to me?” Klein coughs and clears his throat. “Well, kudos to you for that, kid. But unfortunately for you, I’ve got a job to finish.”
Klein gets to his feet, cracking his knuckles, and Jisuk raises his hands and prepares to fight even though he’s still really out of it and he’s starting to worry that he won’t last much longer and he’s really, really hoping that crazy scary cat was right about his sister being close and—
And then Jiyoung arrives on the scene.
And Jisuk is reminded that he is not the only one who can make a good entrance.
Jiyoung cuts through the sky and slams into the ground in a maelstrom of wind and fury, cracking the pavement beneath her. She slowly rises from a crouch, wind shrieking about her elegant form and lifting her hair from her head so that it floats in an eerie halo about her face. To anyone else, her expression would be stony and stoic, but Jisuk knows his sister, and he can see the tightness around her mouth and eyes.
Jiyoung is furious.
Jiyoung is angry in a way only she can be, angry because someone has threatened her own, and when she glances at Jisuk’s blood-soaked arm and then locks her gaze on the remaining Klein brother, her eyes darken with a promise of immense and imminent pain.
You know what? Jisuk is suddenly feeling a whole lot better.
Jiyoung pinches the air with her fingers and draws her hands together, and with a rush of power the air around them expands and forms a sphere whose flowing surface is made of hurtling wind. The air inside is calm and still, like the eye of a tornado. Like the quiet before a storm.
The Klein brother takes a step back, staring up at the sphere encasing them with awe and bit of fear in his face. “Spacial isolation? In so short a time?” His gaze refocuses on Jiyoung.
“You must be Jiyoung Yoo.”
Jisuk smirks. Oh, this Klein dude has no idea what he’s just gotten himself into. He throws back his head and cackles maniacally.
“HAHAHAHA! You’re gonna get it now, punk!”
Jisu points at Klein #1, then makes slicing gestures at his throat.
“You’re dead meat! My big sister is gonna kick. Your. BUTT!”
Jiyoung looks at Jisuk out of the corner of his eye. She radiates bemusement, fond exasperation, and maybe a little bit of amusement. All she says is,
“Get back, Jisuk.”
Jisuk looks between her, and the Klein dude, and his arm, and decides yeah, that would actually be pretty smart. He’s not gonna go far, though. He wants to see Jiyoung beat Klein #1 hollow.
Klein #1 spouts some stuff about how after defeating Jiyoung he’ll be one of the most powerful Awakened in Korea and whatnot, and Jisuk and Jiyoung both smile. Well, Jisuk smirks derisively. Jiyoung’s mouth just twitches and then she speaks, low and deadly and mocking.
“You are no fit opponent for me.”
With no further ado, Jiyoung lays right into him. Jisuk watches and wishes he had popcorn.
Jiyoung is wind. She is a zephyr, subtle and then suddenly deadly. She is a slicing gale that cuts with the precision of a scalpel. She is a keening hurricane of skill and talent, the air cracking around her like a whip, and Klein #1 is quite literally blown away by her power.
Behind her back, Jisuk grins, wide and feral.
Awww yeah. His big sis is so awesome.
