You looked around the room, wonder and shock in your eyes.
"Mafioso…I get that you like bunnies, but isn't this a bit overkill…?"
Somewhere within the C00l Carnival, Mafioso led you to a room only the killers knew. And now, you too.
In one of the food stalls, there was a locked door. You had no idea what was behind that door until that moment…and now you knew why it was locked.
Squeaks and soft thumps could be heard from all over the room as all the bunnies hopped around. They curiously sniffed here and there, some of them munching on the soft grass placed into a nearby food bowl.
As Mafioso approached the bunnies, he reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a small, rectangular package. He unwrapped the bundle, and out came a box of fresh pellets.
The soft clinks of the pellets hitting the metallic food bowl attracted the bunnies' attention, and they collectively hopped towards the source of food.
You watched with fascination as the bunnies nibbled and munched on the pellets, some of them trying to nudge their faces into any small gap in between the others so that they could get their fill.
"Easy there, boys…there's enough for everyone," Mafioso murmured.
One of the bunnies pulled away from the bowl, its beady eyes locking onto yours. Its ears straightened, alert at the sight of the unfamiliar face. Cautiously, the bunny hopped towards you as you reached out a hand towards it. Its snout stuck out, and you could feel the subtle shift of the bunny's fur against your skin as it sniffed your hand.
"Careful with that little guy…he's a nervous one."
You glanced at the rabbit and back at the entire room. By then, most of the other bunnies had already eaten and were now back to hopping around.
Mafioso and the other killers clearly took great care in decorating the room. Carrot chew toys were scattered all over the floor. A large hamster wheel was against the wall, and near it was a sand pit. Apparently, Jason and 1x1x1x1 even worked together to make an entire playground for the bunnies, which spanned across the entire room.
"Mafioso…? How…do you even tell these little guys apart? There are so many…don't you get them mixed up sometimes?"
Mafioso let out a low chuckle as he reached out a hand to pat the critter, its beady eyes slowly closing as it purred in contentment.
"Well, once you've been around them for long enough, you know them by heart. It's just an instinctive thing."
Mafioso gently picked up the rabbit and placed it into your arms. The bean curled up in your embrace, and you couldn't help but crack a small smile.
"Aww…he's just a sleepy lil guy…"
The rabbit opened its eyes to look back up at you. You couldn't help it- the critter was so adorable, with its beady black eyes, its soft fur…
"You're just a lil guy…! Just lemme love you…"
You let out soft laughs and giggles as you started giving the bunny headpats and soft scratches. Behind the ears, on the top of its head…
You found the little guy too adorable for your good.
Mafioso could only watch as your soft, incoherent blabbering while petting seemed to calm the bunny down. It didn't seem nervous- on the contrary, it was relaxed.
It felt safe. It felt like you were someone to be trusted. And it showed in the bunny's behaviour.
"Maybe I should shower these little fellas with love more often," Mafioso thought to himself.
