"Is this Captain Bailey like family?" Mikhail asked. The captain and her boatful of crew, the people Turk had found a place with while he and Mikhail each thought the other dead. Turk had only just returned to him—if this was more than a visit.
The mere question was almost more than Mikhail dared.
There was a long moment when the only sound was the shower running, before Turk turned off the water and stepped out to answer. "As much like my sister as you're my brother."
The kiss was gentle, but Turk's skin roughened into protective fur under Mikhail's clenching hands. Turk wasn't calm about this either. What he and Turk meant to each other. How much this world and the harrowing days had changed them. How Turk falling for Paige Bailey might sunder him from Mikhail.
The clean water beaded up, trickled like tears down Mikhail's fingers.
