Work Text:
Despite Momo’s general appearance as one of the calmer students of Class A, she actually did enjoy some chaos occasionally. This was a good thing because if she didn’t, she likely wouldn’t have survived as long as she had.
Oh did you think she was talking about her first year?
Or her class?
You would be wrong.
Momo was talking about her rather close relationship with the support department with UA. One doesn’t have a quirk like hers and not spend copious amounts of time in the labs, she had quite thoroughly earned her place as an honorary classmate of the support course, not that she was here as a classmate at the moment.
Momo was here as a work studies student of Powerloader, who was a perfectly honorable hero and she definitely didn’t pick him in order to spend as much time in the support labs as possible.
She was sure that the same was true for Denki.
It’s not as though the two of them had commandeered their own workstations in the classroom to do their experiments on…
No, they had just moved into the side of the room with all of the empty workstations near Mei Hatsume, it’s not like they had stolen them, they were perfectly empty when they got there.
They were friends with Mei, it only made sense to hang out nearby her.
Ignore the giant machine on the floor in between the three of them.
Momo and Denki would go on patrol with Powerloader after he finished teaching his classes.
(Powerloader definitely didn’t accept their work studies requests for the same reason they placed them, no siree, this was a completely normal workstudies with no ulterior motives)
The door opened.
Momo and Denki were across the room talking with Powerloader and going over patrol route options, like they had definitely been doing the whole time.
“Hello Support Course!”
It was Principle Nezu.
Momo and Denki immediately started trying harder to pretend that they were here for only hero-ing reasons. Nezu was a genius, he would notice if something was off.
Luckily for the two of them (who really were terrible actors) Nezu ignored the clear signs that they were here to tinker and continued on with what he had come to say.
“We have recently gotten intel that UA may be at risk of an attack, this is not a cause for panic considering how much we have upped our security in recent years, but we have come to the conclusion that many students may wish for some field testing of their support gadgets.”
Midoriya, who was interning with Nezu continued.
“As of now, the decision has been made to allow any third year student or higher to use their quirks, gadgets, and any other skills they may have against intruders to UA. That is anyone who does not go to UA who does not have a pass clearly displayed hanging around their neck.”
Because UA counted as a private property and students lived inside of it via the dorms, this was legal, no matter how much the HPSC hated it.
Nezu continued.
“Because some students are out on work studies at the moment, this information will also be shared via email, if you would like to have this information in print, please contact me and I will personally write it out on paper as well as give you the video evidence of this interaction on a thumbdrive.”
Nezu had a history of pranking students, though never to this level, so the guarantee that he was serious about this was a shock to many and a burst of excitement to many more.
Apparently done, Nezu and Midoriya left the room, presumably to give more classes permission to go hogwild on any random reporters or villains that managed to sneak in.
As they left, Powerloader, who had until now been avoiding eye contact with anyone suddenly went pale (which was remarkably concerning considering that no one could actually see his face meaning that the only way everyone had noticed was that he rapidly got three shades paler in the chest and arms, areas which notoriously shouldn’t do that).
Looking around to figure out what was causing the terror radiating off of him, it didn’t take long for Momo to notice a violently shaking Mei Hatsume, who had just been given permission to test her ‘babies’ on anyone stupid enough to try to break into UA. In the past she would have tested on other UA students, but she had been told in her second year that doing so without permission from the parents of the student or them being a hero student who had given permission would not be allowed anymore, meaning that she had an extremely low number of test subjects.

A remarkably unknown fact about UA is that its property extends over 10 feet out from the walls, which is why paths surrounding it save such a large amount of space on the side closest to the school. Paths to any door don’t count as part of the property until the crossing the gate or wall which allows people to enter with a pass without trespassing. This is the fact that allowed Nezu to expand his security so thoroughly to give warnings about approaching threats. It is also how the school is able to safely pull out of the ground to become a floating monolith. Not that many know about either of those things, especially given how rare the knowledge about the 10 foot property buffer on the outside of the walls.
Here’s the thing about this, reporters tend to forget about the fact that while roads and paths belong to the government, plant life and other areas tend to belong to someone (which allows for less maintenance on the government’s part). This means that stepping outside of a path could lead them into private property. This blunder commonly occurs in popular areas with lots of reporters to jostle cameras and hosts. The 10 foot barrier around UA tends to be rather crowded with reporters due to this.

Mei Hatsume knows all of this information.
Nezu and Midoriya did not clarify that intruders had to be inside of the gates.
Mei Hatsume knows this as well.
Reporters carry cameras everywhere they go.
Mei Hatsume likes to advertise her products to captive audiences.
This is a fact that everyone in UA knows to a severe degree.
Momo and Denki headed back over to join her.
Powerloader (who had grown even paler at the idea that Mei would now have access to near infinite materials, power, and permission) went to go get a blood pressure monitor from Recovery Girl, leaving his class unsupervised.
What was about to happen in there was between the burn marks on the walls and god.
