Chapter 1: Bedhead Beauty

Chapter Text

“Your bedhead is really cute.” Mika chuckled from his place under the velvet blanket.
“N-No, it’s not.” Yoichi blushed furiously, turning his head away from the blonde. He ran his fingers through his wildly curly hair in attempt to train it into something more manageable. But that effort was wasted; the curls sprung up higher.
Mika laughed softly, trying not to ruin the quiet atmosphere. He moved to cuddle Yoichi, his legs entwining with the brunette’s. His strong arms wove around the other’s chest. Yoichi was always soft somehow despite all the years of battle.
At least they were finally done with the war and could now have time to pick up the pieces. Now the task at hand would be to not burn down their government given apartment with the scented candles burning on Mika’s nightstand. Both males were glad that that was their primary concern.
Cold body pressed against a warm body, Yoichi shivered lightly before settling into Mika’s embrace.
“Sorry.” Mika murmured, kissing the back of Yoichi’s neck.
“No need to apologise, it’s just the way you are.” He hushed Mika’s anxieties not for the first time. They laid together in silence for a few heartbeats, thinking, cuddling.
The two were a strange pair, but they worked. Yoichi helped soften Mika, while Mika strengthened Yoichi. They were this steady balance that the Shinoa squad envied.
“Mika? Are you sleeping?” Yoichi breathed.
“No. It’s very hard for me to sleep, you know.” Mika grinned in the faint light, even though he knew his lover wouldn’t be able to see it. Hell, the only things Mika could see even with his enhanced vision was the dim outline of the yellow closet, pine dresser, and a few clothes that he’d tossed on the floor. Yoichi’d scold him for that later, but for now, he wasn’t going to move a muscle.
“Do you ever dream?” Ah, the questions again. Mika chuckled. Yoichi liked to play this game where he’d ask a question, and he’d try to fall asleep to the answer, or more accurately, the sound of Mika’s voice lulled him to sleep. Mika didn’t mind.
“Sometimes. Very rarely, though. When I do, I usually dream of you.” Mika sighed, resting his head deeper onto the pillow. “What I do see in dreams is blurry, it’s not focused. But I do dream of you. Your kind smile. Jade eyes. How beautiful you look when you’ve got bedhead-”
“Mika!” Yoichi giggled, wiggling in Mika’s arms. “Goodness, hush! Is it that bad?”
“You look handsome, dear.” Mika placed a kiss on Yoichi’s head, trying to soothe the other’s insecurities. “Very beautiful.” He was dangerously close to the other’s throat, and it enticed Mika. That’s another reason the candle was burning; to diffuse the strong, sweet scent of Yoichi’s. But when Mika was this close to him, it didn’t do much good. Mika fought it back down, and concentrated on closing his eyes, settling his breathing…
“I love you, Mika.” Yoichi mumbled.
Mika smiled.
“I love you too, Bedhead Beauty.”
“Hey!!”
