Work Text:
It was just another workday for Pierrot, a normal day like any other… perhaps the only difference was that Harlequin was behaving crazier and more annoyingly than usual…
So…it was a day like any other, yes.
Pierrot was handing out flyers on the streets, hoping to finish soon so he could go see his beloved at the café where they worked. Just imagining his sweetheart put a huge smile on his face. Not even the insults, kicks, or shoves Pierrot received from time to time were enough to extinguish the joy that thinking about his beloved brought him.
And as if heaven, as if any celestial power that reigned in the world for the first time in his life, took pity on him, they sent him the brightest angel right at that moment, without him having to wait a minute longer.
"Pierrot~" Soft, warm arms wrapped around him from behind, and a melodious voice flooded his ears and his entire mind.
He didn't even need to turn around to know who it was.
His excitement was so intense that he wanted to shout their name right there and recite poem after poem he had composed in his mind to distract himself during his workday, but he knew he had to restrain himself. He simply leaned closer into the embrace and smiled even wider (if that was even possible).
His adoration finally stopped hugging him (much to his dismay) and stood in front of him.
"Pierrot, how much longer until you finish work? I have something very important to tell you…" his beloved said the last part in an unusually shy tone.
Could it be…? No, let's not get ahead of ourselves…it could be anything else, but…
“Its…a secret I've been keeping all this time, but I can't stand it anymore. If I don't tell you today, my heart will explode!” For some reason, his moonlight was acting like those actresses in the romantic movies they occasionally watched together, too dramatic. If Pierrot were a little more rational and a little less delusional, it would have been noticeable that something was…off.
But well, Pierrot is Pierrot, and at the same time, his beloved's extremely sweet and unusual behavior made him do the most logical thing anyone could do (oh Pierrot, if Jester were watching you right now, he'd be shaking his head from side to side, wondering, "What did I do wrong?")
Pierrot threw the remaining flyers in a trash can and took his beloved by the arm, leading them to a secluded alley where he knew almost no one passed by.
"W-well, I said it was important! But it wasn't necessary to throw the flyers like that, P! If Jess or Tiktak find out, they'll kill you!" His beloved's laughter made any death or punishment inflicted by his circus companions worthwhile, Pierrot thought to himself.
"Well, my dear, what did you want to tell me?"
"Oh! Right..." His beloved knelt on one knee, took Pierrot's gloved hand, and looking him straight in the eyes, said,
“Pierrot~ Oh! Pierrot! There's something I can't keep to myself anymore”
“Yes? What is it?” Pierrot swallowed hard.
“I've had feelings for you for a while now… I tried to ignore it, run away… even block you on Instagram… although… you don't have Instagram…”
Pierrot felt like he was about to have a heart attack. Could this really be happening?
“But! This is stronger than me”
Pierrot's brain was short-circuiting.
"Every time I hear your voice... I get butterflies in my stomach... although maybe it's because I keep drinking milk even though I’m lactose intolerant..."
‘My dear, if you only knew, I feel those butterflies too. I don't just feel them, I see them all around you, like you're a character from a fairy tale!’ Pierrot thought to himself.
"And my legs and hands tremble every time I see you... although maybe it has something to do with the fact that I drink a liter of coffee a day..."
‘I also tremble with excitement every time I'm near you... even if you're not there, just thinking about you is enough to make me tremble and shudder! To make my heart explode and overflow with passion, my dear...’That's what Pierrot wanted to say, well, he really thought he was saying it, but oh silly Pierrot, all that dialogue was still only inside your head.
"But what I mean is... I feel a connection between us... and I..."
"I love you!" they both said at the same time... after an awkward silence the human just said
"Bited by a dog"
"What?" Pierrot froze
“…”
“…”
“Okay, look, the joke makes sense if you say it in Spanish…that was the language this fanfic was originally written in…until the author translated it with Google”
“Fan-…fanfic? Google? My dear, I don't understand…I'm sorry”
“Pierrot! Don't you remember what day it is today?”
Pierrot hesitated, racking his brain. What important date could it be?
His beloved's birthday? No.
The anniversary of the first time they met? No.
The anniversary of the first time they spoke? No.
The anniversary of the first time their hands touched? No.
The anniversary of the first time Pierrot and his beloved had shared the same glass (without the aforementioned beloved being aware of it) …no, not that either…then…
the anniversary of the first time that…
“It's April Fool's Day!”
…
“I'm sorry, P! But I lost a bet with Harlot—I mean, Harlequin—and…I had to play a trick on you. Don't take it the wrong way, okay?”
“So…the confession…”
“Oh, look at the time! I have to get back to work. Sorry, P! I'll make it up to you later. Haha, if you want to play a trick on me too before the day is over, I won't be mad!”
And so, his beloved left, leaving him and his heart in the same place he had put those flayers minutes ago…
In the trash.
The day of the fools…huh?

You were about to go to sleep after taking a much-needed shower, especially after Harlequin decided to make you the butt of most of his April Fool's Day pranks. The last one had involved dropping some strange substance on you, and frankly, you didn't even care to find out what it was anymore… You stayed alert all day, waiting for Pierrot's revenge.
You felt bad for having played that prank on him, but you had no choice. Harlequin had kidnapped your entire Labubu collection earlier that day and threatened to throw them all into the fire if you didn't fulfill your part of the agreement. So, even though it hurt to bully poor Pierrot, it would hurt even more to lose your collection of ugly, overpriced figurines, which you'd probably forget about in a corner once the trend faded, gathering dust.
But while that was still to happen, you put the figurines you'd recovered from Harlequin, back on the shelf. There were only five minutes left in the day, so you thought that maybe Pierrot was too gentle and sweet to play a prank on you, even after the tasteless joke you'd played on him. This only made you feel worse, but oh well, it was April Fools' Day. Surely Pierrot, being as kind and nice as he was, understood and hadn't taken it personally.
Once you finished everything you had to do for the day, you lay down on your bed. The first of April was finally over, which meant you could finally let your guard down because no one would try to play a trick on you anymore.
Haha, yeah right, with Harlequin in your life, as if that were possible, every day was a fool’s day. Oh well…
✿・。。・☆・。。・✿・。。・☆ ・。。・✿
The next day arrived…maybe. You woke up and felt something strange; your bed felt different, harder and colder… And since when did you buy metal bars to decorate your room…and chains?
Wait a minute…
A cage! You were in a cage and chained up!
That damn Harlequin! Up to his tricks again, but he was going to hear you as soon as he walked through that door. You’d said…
“Good morning, my dear, how did you sleep?”
All the words died on your tongue before they left.
“Pierrot?”
“Yes, my dear?” he smiled at you as sweet and seemly innocent as always
“What is this? Locked in a cage…is this Harlequin’s doing? Hahaha, what a question, of course it is, please help me, P! I know, we can both plan the best comeback for that fool, haha, he'd never see it coming!”
“My dear, I think there's been a misunderstanding…it was me who brought you here.”
“What?...oh.”
A lightbulb went off in your head, wow! So, in the end, good old Pierrot did have some backbone after all, haha. Not even you (and you were sure not even that dimwit Harlequin) would have predicted that Pierrot would be capable of getting back at you.
“I get it now, you're getting back at me for the joke I played on you, haha, Pierrot, good one! But…uh Pierrot…there's a detail, it's not April Fools' Day anymore! Fool! Ha”
“Exactly”
Exactly what? What did it mean?
Well, it didn't take you long to understand that it meant it would be April Fools' Day, today, tomorrow, the day after, and many more days, there locked up and tied to Pierrot forever.
A joke that went too far…maybe…you should have thought more about the kind of jokes you make and how they can affect others…maybe you should have let your Labubus die.
Happy April Fools' Day.
Fool.
