Fugo took a deep breath, looking down at himself to make sure he looked presentable. He straightened his tie one more time, and ran a hand through his hair to fix it a bit. He was meeting his boyfriend's father for the first time, and from what Giorno had told him, he couldn't deny that he was a bit worried about how everything would play out.
"It's fine. It'll just be a few questions. You can do this." He murmured to himself, before bringing his hand up and slowly pressing the doorbell. Giorno's house was a fancy one, it wasn't as lavish as Fugo's mansion, but it wasn't anything to scoff at either. He waited patiently for a few moments, before Giorno poked his head out of the door.
Fugo smiled at the sight of the blonde boy, feeling his nerves ease up a little. "Giorno. Hey." He said. Smiling as Giorno opened the door completely, watching him brush a strand of hair behind his ear.
"Hey, Panni. I'm glad you made it." Giorno greeted, giving Fugo one of those smiles that melted his heart without fail. He let out a nervous chuckle, rubbing the back of his neck.
"Well...I said I'd be here." He spoke, and Giorno nodded, stepping aside so Fugo could enter. He stepped inside and moved to press a small kiss to the corner of Giorno's mouth, before looking away and taking in his surroundings.
The inside of the house was breathtaking. Gorgeous harwood floors with a simple red carpet over them. The walls were painted in a pretty cream color, and there were various art pieces and pictures lining the walls of what Fugo assumed was of Giorno's family. There was small table near the entrance, full of framed pictures alongside a vase of roses. He strutted over to it and picked up one of the frames, turning to Giorno with a smile on his face.
"Is this you?"
He asked, grinning at how Giorno's face flushed at the presented picture. It was of Giorno, when he was around seven years old from the looks of it. His hair was black instead of the golden yellow it is now, and it vaguely reminded him that Giorno wasn't naturally blonde. The young boy was sitting on a pink pillow with a giant ladybug plush, holding it so tightly as if he thought somebody was gonna take it from him. Giorno grabbed the picture from Fugo's hand, immediately putting it back in it's place before.
"I told father to get rid of that one.." He grumbled, mostly to himself judging by the quiet tone of his voice. After a second, he remembered that Fugo was there, and he swiftly turned around to face him.
"Focus, Fugo." He started, trying to play off his embarrassment. "We don't have time to look at pictures. My father isn't a patient man. Come on, he's in the living room waiting for us."
Fugo frowned a bit at how Giorno immediately changed the topic, but he didn't say anything about it. He followed Giorno through the hall, and they were soon inside the living room. At the sight of Giorno's father, Fugo did his best to hold in a small snort.
From what Giorno had told him, Dio Brando was a fierce lawyer. A man that did what he wanted, whenever he wanted. A man that was strict, and really intimidating. That could make anyone do what he said with one single look. But his appearance... Made Fugo doubt all that
The man was wearing some..black crop top. The fabric tight against his skin, where Fugo could see muscle. But still..a crop top? His pants were even more surprising, bright yellow with a green belt that had a heart right in the middle. Fugo thought the way he dressed was weird, but he was second guessing himself at the sight of his boyfriend's father. Atleast he could see where Giorno got his fashion sense from.
Dio Brando sat on one of the arm chairs, with his eyes closed, seemingly deep in thought. He only raised his head when Giorno finally cleared his throat. "Father. This is Fugo. My boyfriend."
Fugo swallowed thickly, before following Giorno to his father's side, slowly reaching out his hand for the older man to shake. "It's...nice to meet you, sir." He said, cursing himself for how stupid his voice must sound. Dio gave him an unamused glance, looking him up and down for a few seconds before grabbing his hand and giving it a firm shake.
"It's nice to meet you too. Go on, take a seat, boy." He said, his voice deep and cold as he gestured to one of the other couches in the living room. Fugo immediately felt his nerves spike up at the sound of his voice, and he doubted his earlier thoughts immediately.
Giorno had already sat down, so Fugo followed him and sat next to him. The couch was really comfortable, and Fugo could swear he would sink into it if he wasn't so tense at the moment. He put his hands in his lap, fidgeting with his fingers a bit as the three sat in uncomfortable silence, the only sound being the ticking of the clock on the wall.
"So, Fugo." Dio suddenly spoke, breaking the silence. "How long have you been seeing my son?" He asked. Putting his cheek in his hand as he eyed the two teenagers, a look in his eye that Fugo couldn't make out.
He quickly glanced at Giorno, as if to ask for help, only to get a shrug in return. He turned back to the older man, rubbing his cheek as he replied. "Uhm. It's been...About nine months now." He replied, not missing the way Dio's eyes widened for a moment, before his face went back into the unamused glare it was before.
"Nine months, hm? And I'm just now meeting you? How interesting." The man commented, shooting Giorno a small look.
Giorno looked uncomfortable for a second, before let out a sigh, narrowing his eyes at his father.
"Don't start, father."
Dio scoffed when Giorno spoke. He crossed his arms and leaned back in his seat, looking more like a toddler than the intimidating man he apparently was. "Please what, my son? I'm just expressing how intriguing it is that you've been seeing this boy for nine months and I'm just now meeting him." He replied, his tone obviously meant to be condescending.
Fugo could see where Giorno got everything from now at the looks they were giving eachother. The hard look Dio was sending towards his son was the same one Fugo saw on Giorno's face whenever the two got in a fight, or whenever someone had the nerve to piss the blonde boy off. It was almost disturbing, in a way. To see his boyfriend's face on another man's, even though that was just how genetics worked.
Giorno rolled his eyes at his father, mumbling something under his breath. "What was that?" Dio barked out immediately, not letting that go.
"Nothing." Giorno grumbled, and Dio just let out a huff, a small satisfied smirk coming on his face before it went away just as quickly, and his attention was immediately back on Fugo.
"Why don't you tell me about yourself." He said, and Fugo could tell it was more of a demand rather than a question.
"Okay. Um." He started, thinking of what to say to not make himself look like a total dumbass. "I'm top of my class, I'm learning to play piano, and I volunteer with Giorno at an animal shelter every week." He replied, and sighed internally when he saw the somewhat satisfied look in Dio's eyes.
"Fugo's also going to go to college to be a lawyer too. He's already studying early for it."
Giorno piped up, and Dio chuckled a bit, raising an eyebrow at the two boys.
"A lawyer, huh? I have to say, I'm pleasantly surprised. When my son told me he was dating someone, I thought it'd be some useless punk that I'd have to shoo away." Dio spoke, tapping his fingers against his cheek. "It's good to know that my son is dating a bright young man like you." He finished, and Fugo couldn't really tell if that was meant to be sarcastic or an actual compliment due to the tone in his voice.
He nodded his head, clasping his hands together and internally cursing himself with how sweaty his palms had gotten. Why was he already so stressed?! "Thank you, Mr. Brando."
"You're not lying to me, are you? Not secretly some punk that's corrupting my son?"
He added randomly, and Fugo paused for a second, while Giorno narrowed his eyes at Dio.
"You can't just-"
"It's fine, Giorno." Fugo spoke, cutting him off before turning back to Dio. He saw how Giorno got bothered at being cut off, but he'd have to apologize for that later. "No, I'm not. I can assure you that I'd never intentionally do anything to hurt Giorno in any way."
He replied, keeping his voice steady while doing his best not to take offense to the older man's accusation.
Dio watched him blankly for a moment, before seemingly accepting that response. "Mhm. I, Dio, just want the best for my son." He said, and snuck a glance at Giorno. The blonde just sitting there with his usual monotone expression on his face, although Fugo could see a hint of annoyance in his eyes.
"Alright, Fugo. One last question." He declared, eyeing Fugo intently as he opened his mouth to speak. "What are your intentions with my son?"
There it was. The question Fugo had planned, practiced and prepared for. But now that it was out there, his mind went completely blank on him, making him completely silent for a few seconds before answering.
"Marry him."
He blurted out. He didn't miss the way Dio narrowed his eyes, or how his boyfriend looked surprised himself. But he'd already said it, and couldn't take it back now.
"I..want to marry him. One day. In the future. Maybe. When we're older. If he wants to, of course. I won't push, I-"
He continued, his brain completely betraying him as his mouth moved on it's own. He immediately forced himself to shut up after he realised he was rambling, swearing at himself internally at the confession.
Dio just stared at him silently, and God, was Fugo terrified. Whenever he'd gotten that exact look from Giorno was bad, so he was already stressed by the sight of it on the older man's face. Giorno noticed the atmosphere and tried to break the awkward tension.
"Father-"
He attempted to speak, but was cut short when Dio raised one of his hands up, signaling him to be quiet. Giorno shut up immediately, not bothering to argue with his father when it was clear he wouldn't even let him speak.
"You are quite young to be thinking about marriage. Aren't you?" He finally said, and Fugo could've sworn he was looking right through his soul.
"I....uhm.." Fugo sputtered, not really knowing what to say.
"I just...see a future with Giorno, and...Well, you asked for my intentions and..that is it."
He said, trying to make himself seem confident, even though he knew he probably looked like some pathetic idiot right now.
Dio stared at him in nothing but silence, and Fugo could tell that he was contemplating things by the expression on his face. After a moment or two he let out a sigh and schooled his expression back to normal.
"I appreciate your honesty. That is a valuable quality to have."
He murmured, and stood up abruptly.
"I'm gonna get started on dinner. Stay, why don't you? I'm sure you'd love to meet GioGio's brothers."
He said and walked past where Fugo and Giorno were sitting, putting a hand on Fugo's shoulder and squeezing it a bit too tightly before leaving the room, leaving Fugo and Giorno alone.
Fugo sat entirely still, attempting to process what had just happened. before finally snapping out of it.
"...What the hell was that?!" Fugo whisper-shouted. Glancing at the doorway before snapping his head yt the side to look at Giorno.
"I...think he likes you?"
Fugo just stared at him blankly, unmoving as he took in his response. He sunk backwards after a second or two, putting his face in his hands as he thought.
"So...marry me, huh?"
Fugo heard Giorno's voice say, and he might aswell have just passed out right then and there.
