Chapter Text
Yuji tried to be mindful of his roommate, Megumi Fushiguro whenever he streamed.
It was a principle of respect; something that the two had discussed in lengthy detail when they had first moved in together nearly two years ago. It ended in a reformed streaming schedule for Yuji. One that worked around Megumi’s schedule whilst also allowing ample time for him to stream.
Most of Yuji's streams would occur during the day, whilst Megumi was at work. It meant that he could turn up the volume, be a little loud, and not have to worry about distracting his friend as he tried to relax. He would still stream during the evening from time to time, on days that were particularly busy. But he would always consult Megumi first, warning him beforehand so he was aware that it may get a little rowdy.
If Megumi had any issues regarding his streaming the two would sit down and discuss it with one another. It wasn’t very often that he did raise any issues, seeming as he was usually working when the streams did occur. If he did, it typically came from a point of general concern for Yuji’s mental health. That, and the odd noise complaint after a particularly noisy stream.
It was healthy, and the two communicated with each other rather effectively. It had proved to be quite beneficial to Yuji’s own mental health, holding him accountable for his tendency to neglect his own health in favour of providing content to his viewers.
In return, Megumi was able to guarantee that he could sleep peacefully each night. Not having to worry about being woken up to the noise of his roommates confused shouts at a video game he was performing poorly in.
Due to this routine that the two had very quickly fallen into, it meant that it wasn’t very often that Megumi was home when Yuji was streaming. This was fine with Yuji as he found himself feeling rather embarrassed at the thought of Megumi hearing him streaming from the other room. This was combined with the fact that he didn’t actually watch his streams, and was often oblivious as to what he was doing.
If Megumi were ever to hear the rather strange things that could come out of his mouth whilst under the influence of adrenaline and a stark desire to prove himself to his fanbase, he is almost certain he’d never be able to face him again.
However, tonight proved to be different.
Megumi arrived back at their shared apartment right as he was beginning to close off his stream, rounding up his game. It was when he was idly talking to his chat as he usually did near the end of his streams. He hadn’t even heard as the other entered their apartment, much too engrossed in talking to his viewers to pay attention to anything happening around him.
“Overall, I'm really enjoying this game so far!” Yuji chirps. He was rambling on about the new game he had just spent the past few hours playing. It wasn’t something that he would have found himself enjoying so much, but the slow paced, storytelling aspect of the series was really beginning to grow on him. “Maybe I’ll have to stream it at some point in the future.” He ponders, leaning forward in his chair to read his chat.
It was one of the many delights of being a streamer; being able to actively engage with his viewers and see how they enjoyed his often embarrassing reactions to his own, poor performance in certain video games. It put a smile on his face and motivated him to get up every day and pursue this little hobby that had somehow turned into his fulltime job.
Yujifan: Please keep streaming this game, it's so cool !!
SilentKitty: I agree !! It’s such a fun game.
Sleepyyyx: You’re so cool !!
Blueepanda: W opinion
FshionFann: Yuji stop streaming, its SO late
Yuji rolled his eyes at the last chat message, recognising it to be his good friend Nobara. It was a known fact among his viewers that sometimes she would join his streams, mainly to critique his gameplay and to scold him for his bad habits.
“Nobara, get out of here!” Yuji grumbles, leaning backwards on his chair with a slight huff. He didn't even think it was that late to be streaming. Although his idea of ‘late’ was much more different to that of Nobara or even Megumi as a matter of fact. “I've not even eaten dinner yet,” He whines.
Singingdog: Kugisaki!!
FshionFann: Then go eat you idiot
BlueWhalee: Lol!!
FoxxFurr: You gotta eat man
Yuijilooverr: Not u being called out
Yuji huffed, a small pout forming on his already sullen face at the demanding message from his friend. He couldn’t deny that she was right, he really should get something to eat, especially considering how late it was getting. But that didn’t change the fact that it was slightly humiliating to be called out by one of his friends in his chat.
“Yeah, I will in a moment!” Yuji grumbles, a small laugh escaping his lips as he moves to sit up straight. As annoying as Nobara could be sometimes, she was an all around good friend. If it wasn’t for her suggestion, he would have never been introduced to Megumi; someone who he would now consider one of his all time best friends.
Just as he was about to announce to his viewers that he was going to close off the stream for the night, Nobara’s comment lingering in his mind; he heard the sound of his door opening. That was then followed by a quiet, distressed yelp from none other than his roommate Megumi.
Without hesitation Yuji removed his headphones and swivelled around on his chair to face his friend. Megumi was still visible to the eye, at least to Yuji, but he was hiding behind the door, an uncomfortable look residing on his face. His face was flushed with embarrassment and his eyes were drilled to the floor, caught in surprise.
Megumi tried to avoid appearing on Yuji’s streams as much as possible, and had so far been successful. Well, up until just now he had. It was a personal preference of his that Yuji respected, and he had never once forced his roommate to make an appearance on stream unless he wanted to beforehand.
So naturally Yuji was worried for his friend when he realized his mistake. He had forgotten to tell him that he was running overtime on his stream, causing him to mistakenly assume that he wasn’t live when he had entered the room.
“Meg-!” Yuji stops himself before he can finish the name. His voice slightly panicked and ridden with guilt as he spoke, unsure if he should be openly saying his friends name out loud when his viewers could hear. He could see the humiliated look on Megumi's face, ears flushed red and eyes wide.“I’m so sorry, dude!” He apologises, lowering his head in defeat.
Megumi mumbles something incomprehensible under his breath before shaking his head. “It’s alright,” He mutters, eyes trained onto the ground as he speaks, embarrassment still evident. “I just wasn’t expecting you to be streaming, that’s all.” He explains, letting go of the door handle to rub the back of his neck anxiously.
Yuji nods in understanding, giving him a small, reassuring smile. He felt bad for his friend, noticing the sheer embarrassment on his face as he spoke. Taking a quick glance over at his monitor he stood up, heading over to where Megumi was still standing.
“So, was there anything you needed?” He asks curiously, cocking his head to the side.
Megumi nods, muttering something under his breath as he attempts to regain his composure. “Yeah, I was just wondering if you wanted me to order food for dinner tonight,” He says calmly, finally deciding to take his eyes off the ground; only to look Yuji in the eyes, avoiding looking at the monitor in the background that was sure to capture their very conversation. “I imagine you haven’t eaten yet,” He adds, voice slightly disapproving as he speaks.
Yuji laughs nervously. “Yeah, you’d be right to say that,” He must have seen the lack of dirty dishes in their sink and gathered that he hadn’t bothered to cook anything for dinner. He would be right, of course.
One of Yuji’s known bad habits was that he would often forget to eat, especially when he was preoccupied with streaming. It wasn’t something he intended to do, he just found himself so immersed in his streams that the concept of eating went completely over his head.
Megumi sighs, shaking his head. “You need to start remembering to eat more,” He scolds, an unimpressed look on his face. It reminded him a little of his older brother Choso, and the memory sent a shiver down his spine.
Yuji nods sullenly, a small pout forming on his face at being reprimanded. “Okay..” He mumbles quietly, avoiding eye contact with Megumi, desperate to not see the disapproving look on his face. He hated being scolded by his roommate. It really was one of the worst feelings in the world.
Megumi simply rolls his eyes in response. “As I was saying, I was planning on ordering pizza.” He continues, fishing his phone out of his pocket and opening up a delivery app. “If that’s okay with you, of course,” He adds, briefly looking up from his phone to gauge his expression.
Yuji nods enthusiastically at the mention of pizza, his stomach rumbling at the mere thought of the delicious meal. “Definitely!” He says excitedly, leaning forward slightly to look at his friend's phone. He could see Megumi scrolling through the many different options and it only made his eyes widen in anticipation even more.
He really was hungry, huh?
Megumi nods. “It’s on me, by the way,” He adds as he clicks on their usual pizza orders and adds them to the basket. He didn’t even bother double checking. The two had known each other long enough to remember the other’s food preferences and were faithful to their pizza orders, very rarely ordering anything other than what they were used to. “Gojo sent over the money, so don't feel the need to pay me back” Megumi mutters, eyebrows immediately furrowing at the mention of his Godfather.
Yuji nods, his curiosity piqued at the mention of Gojo, having not spoken to him in a couple of days. It wasn’t as if the two were necessarily close but he had spoken to him a few times in the past. The most memorable time was when he and Megumi had first moved into their shared apartment, the former being insistent on helping his Godson bring all of his belongings into the new apartment, not taking no for an answer.
The overly eccentric white haired man was Megumi’s Godfather as he understood; or something equivalent to that, at least. It was a little complicated, Megumi's familial situation, and his head hurt just thinking about it. Megumi often rejected the idea of the man being related to him in any way whatsoever, despite having spent his entire childhood within the presence of him.
Megumi’s biological father, Toji seemed to often struggle raising two children; juggling parenthood and the grief of his late wife, whom he had been apparently enthralled with. ‘They were soulmates’, as Megumi had put it. It was a heartbreaking story, at least from Yuji’s perspective and he could only feel sympathy for the man.
According to Megumi this was when Gojo had stepped in, alongside his partner, Geto. Although they were still teenagers themselves, having just recently graduated high school, the two had played a significant role in raising Megumi and his sister, Tsumiki.
He’d have to ask about Gojo later, he thinks.
“I’ll leave you to your stream now,” Megumi mutters, breaking Yuji out of his thoughts. He had since put his phone back in his trousers pocket and was now shuffling around awkwardly, clearly unsure of what to do. If it wasn’t for the situation at hand, Yuji would call it a little cute.
“Of course!” Yuji says with a smile. He’d have to properly apologise to Megumi later but for now he had a stream to close off and an undoubtedly curious chat to answer to. He sighs at the thought.
Megumi nods and with that he leaves the room, shutting the door behind him with a quiet click.
Yuji breaths out steadily, his shoulders hunching as he takes a moment to regain his composure. He heads back over to his desk, picking up his headphones and sliding back into his chair; unprepared for the onslaught of questions he was about to have to address as much as he'd rather not.
“Sorry about that small interruption,” He says apologetically, eyes glossing over his stream's chat, attempting to gauge their reaction at the sight of his roommate accidentally walking in on his stream. “I guess I should probably give you all a small explanation.” He chuckles, leaning back in his chair, the old thing creaking in protest.
Scratchykitten: who was that ?!?
Gooselvr: Mystery boyfriend?? :0
Shortgrass: What just happened ?! We've never seen this guy before !!
Applliee: I'm so curious ???
FshionFann: omg lol
Pastasolos: Does Kugisaki know this guy?!
Yuji gives a strained laugh. It was no surprise to him that his naturally curious viewers had questions about the seemingly mysterious figure who had just accidentally wandered into his stream. After all, he had never actually mentioned Megumi to his viewers, deciding that they didn't need to know of his existence since he simply didn't appear on stream.
Until today, that was, of course.
“The person you just saw was my roommate,” He says casually, failing to mention his name. He wasn't exactly sure if Megumi was comfortable with his name being shared online, and deciding that he didn't want to risk accidentally crossing a boundary he decided to leave that piece of otherwise irrelevant information out.
“He doesn't appear on stream because he doesn't feel comfortable doing so,” Yuji continues, voice somewhat serious as he explains his situation. He wanted to make it explicitly clear to his viewers that Megumi was uncomfortable with appearing on stream, immediately shooting down any suggestion of the man appearing as a guest.
It wasn't as if he didn't trust his viewers to not understand the situation but he was very aware that sometimes, even subconsciously; fans could cross boundaries and that it was important to set them early on.
sunnytouyaa: he seems pretty cute imo !!
goofypebble: That's fair enough ! :P
pinnkkyy: totally understand that !
frogggzz: i think he looks cool
Yuji sighs in relief, grateful that his viewers, for the most part, seemed to have reacted positively to his wishes. He wasn't quite sure what he would have done otherwise as he found it rather strange to have to scold his chat for being disrespectful towards others. He was just glad to have an overall wonderful community.
He smiles, a small laugh leaving his lips at the sheer amount of compliments that his roommate was receiving from his viewers. “He’s an amazing friend, for sure,” Yuji comments, his lips upturning to form a smile just at the thought of his kind-hearted roommate. “You can thank him for fixing my horrendous sleep schedule,” He chuckles, feeling quite embarrassed as he reminisces back on the years prior to meeting Megumi.
He would frequently stream throughout the night with no regard for his mental health whatsoever. It was undeniably unhealthy and he wonders to this day how he was capable of going multiple days in a row with little to no sleep whatsoever. Especially with how much energy he was putting into each stream; disregarding his own health in favour of producing content for his viewers.
Yuji spends a few more minutes chatting with his viewers, answering any curious questions about Megumi and clearing up any misconceptions about their relationship.
A lot of people had immediately, and rather incorrectly assumed that the black haired man was his romantic partner. He supposed it was only natural since he had never once mentioned being in a relationship before but the comment was quite unexpected, even to Yuji. It had made him feel quite flustered, his face warming in embarrassment as he tried to vehemently deny the sudden allegations about the man.
He also decided he would never, under any circumstances tell Megumi about what his viewers had suggested, deciding he deserved to be spared from any further embarrassment. Even if the reaction would be rather adorable, he had at least a little respect for his friend.
After ending the stream and changing into some more comfortable clothes he heads out of his room and into the living space where Megumi was sitting on their couch, having also changed into a hoodie and joggers. Where he was now mindlessly scrolling through his phone, looking rather unimpressed at whatever he was watching.
Yuji heads over to the couch and drops down next to Megumi, a yawn escaping his lips as he stretches his arms over his head. The past few hours had been exhausting and he was eternally grateful for Megumi’s decision to order in food, knowing that he wouldn’t be able to cook, much too tired to force himself into their shared kitchen.
Megumi glances up as he stretches, a small frown forming on his face as he cocks his head. “You okay?” He asks, turning his phone off and dropping it into his lap.
Yuji smiles. “Yeah, just a little tired.” He reassures, patting Megumi on the shoulder, causing the other to scowl and roll his eyes. It gets a giggle out of Yuji, finding his friend’s reaction to be rather funny.
“I’m sorry for earlier, by the way,” Yuji adds, a frown returning to his face. He still couldn’t shake off the guilt from earlier on. The pained face that Megumi had given him earlier when he had realised that he was streaming forever ingrained into his mind.
Megumi shakes his head, a soft sigh leaving his lips. He was clearly unimpressed with his decision to apologise. “You have nothing to apologise for,” He interjects, and he sounded stern as he turned to look over at Yuji.
Yuji grumbles, arms crossing over his chest in annoyance. He copied Megumi's disgruntled expression as his lips upturned into a pout. “I do though!” He counters, watching as his friend rolls his eyes. “I should have told you I was going over time!”
“Stop trying to apologise when you did nothing wrong, idiot.” Megumi reiterates, his own irritation now becoming evident as he speaks. He's not being serious of course; as the two find themselves bickering once again, something that had almost become a part of their daily routine by this point.
Yuji would like to think it's somewhat domestic.
“Whatever..” Yuji grumbles in defeat, deciding he doesn't have the energy within him to argue back and forth with Megumi. It was pointless, after all.
The two sit in comfortable silence for a few minutes, the only noise being the quiet, shallow breathing of Megumi as he shifts into a more comfortable position on the couch, quiet grumbles escaping his lips.
“My viewers thought you looked pretty cool.” Yuji blurts out, looking over at Megumi who seemed to be on the verge of falling asleep by now, eyes half-lidded as he fought to keep them open.
It wasn’t an important detail but he thought it may relieve at least some of the anxiety his roommate was feeling, knowing that his viewers didn’t think he was some weirdo, but rather a cool looking man who they wished to know more about.
“Is that so?” Megumi murmurs, blinking his eyes open to look up at Yuji who was staring down at him sheepishly. He nods, watching as a small, shy smile appears on the other’s face, ears turning slightly red as he tries to hide his embarrassment. He clearly hadn’t expected people to find him cool. “I guess that’s a little reassuring then,” He huffs out, an amused look on his face.
Yuji nods enthusiastically, a small chuckle leaving his lips. “Yeah, they were pretty curious about you, too,” He adds, thinking back on how his chat had hurled question after question at him, desperate to gain even the smallest of information about his otherwise mysterious, nameless roommate. “I didn’t give away anything personal, of course,”
Megumi seems even more shocked at this, his eyebrows raising slightly as he listens intently. “I don’t understand why,” He states plainly, confusion lacing his voice.
Yuji hums, silently disagreeing with his friend. In his own opinion he found Megumi to be quite interesting, perhaps one of the most interesting people he had ever met. But of course he wouldn’t tell the other as such, knowing he would just shake his head and disagree.
“Oh, I was meaning to ask–” Yuji starts, just remembering that he meant to ask Megumi about Gojo earlier on. “Why exactly did Gojo send you money for tonight?” He questions, his curiosity piqued.
“Apparently he wanted to treat his ‘favourite kid’, or something like that,” He mumbles, and sighs in what could only be described as sheer disappointment at the mention of his Godfather, dragging a hand down his face in annoyance. “I think he just felt bad that he lost one of my books, though,” he mutters.
“Yeah, that sounds like Gojo,” Yuji says with a small laugh, leaning his head back on the sofa to look up at the ceiling. “Why did you even give him one of your books in the first place?” He asks curiously. Usually Megumi was rather protective of his books and would never lend them out to others, let alone Gojo. After all, the man couldn't be trusted with such possessions.
“He told me that it was for Geto,” Megumi explains. Another, smaller sigh escapes his lips this time. “Somehow he managed to lose it before the book even reached his husband.” He folds his arms over his chest, grumbling something under his breath; an insult towards Gojo, most likely.
Yuji laughs at Megumi's petulant expression, finding it to be almost reminiscent of an angry child; the way his lips curled into a pout as he sunk further into the couch. As much as his friend claimed to dislike Gojo, Yuji knew he could be rather fond of his Godfather.
He'd even go as far as to say he looked up to the man.
“What are you laughing at?” Megumi asks accusatorily, and Yuji wishes he could take it seriously but he can't. Not with the undeniably adorable way in which his otherwise expressionless roommate was staring at him, staring daggers into his face as if trying to be threatening.
He didn't know what he would do without Megumi, really.
“Nothing!” He giggles, having to turn his head away from where his friend was sitting, a hand moving to cover his laugh as he tries to contain a fit of laughter. It wasn't funny, really. If it had been anyone else Yuji doesn't think he'd be laughing near as much, but it was Megumi, and he was different.
“It’s not nothing, just stop laughing at me.” Megumi pouts, moving to flick Yuji on the forehead, earning him a yelp in response. He sees a small, shit-eating grin playing on his face and Yuji ceases to be annoyed at his friend. Instead he only laughs harder, doubling over at the look on Megumi's face.
He gets slapped around the head by Megumi for it, but quite frankly he doesn't care.
It’s a few days later and Yuji, once again, finds himself streaming video games in his bedroom. It’s going pretty well in his own opinion; the game is progressing nicely and he’s finding time to have a night, light-hearted chat with his viewers in between breaks.
That was, until he looks at his chat and notices the very familiar, unwelcomed username that could only belong to one person.
Sukuna. Yuji groans.
thukuna: You're shit at this game.
beepyboop: omg is that sukuna, lol?!
Yujisn1fan: not Yuji being called out LMAO
thukuna: just stating the truth.
creepymouse: He's not that bad !!
thukuna: he is.
“Sukuna, get out of here!” Yuji yells, leaning forward in his chair as he hits pause on his game. It wasn’t very often, but sometimes his twin brother, Sukuna, would enter his stream chat just to mess with him, and today seemed to be one of those fateful days.
“Aren't you supposed to be at work?” He asks, glancing over at the time on his watch. It was around three-o'clock, and Yuji was almost certain that his brother was supposed to be working today. Not that he would put it past his brother to call in sick.
He glances over his chat again.
thukuna: just because I have work doesn't mean I have to show up.
alieenz12: lol that's true !!!
FshionFann: you won't have work if you keep this up, idiot.
thukuna: fuck off
FshionFann: aaah you maddd
Crunchiee: LOL
thukuna: kys
FshionFann: mods ban this guy!!
Yuji drags a hand down his face, feeling a sudden wave of exhaustion come crashing over him, irritation bubbling.
“Seriously, Sukuna?” Yuji groans, arms crossing over his chest as he watches a string of teasing messages from his brother show up in his chat. “Go do something with your life, man!” He complains, throwing his hands up in the air in annoyance.
He could practically hear his brother's snide laughter from through the screen.
“I will come to your apartment.” Yuji threatens, huffing as he leans forward in his chair. “I know where you live,”
thukuna: I feel unsafe.
FshionFann: that sounds fucking horrible yuji LOL
gingerbreaaddxx: is bro threatening sukuna lolll
sweetapple: this is SO funny lol
thukuna: not funny. My life is at risk because of this sick bastard.
“You're the horrible one, Sukuna.” Yuji whines loudly, rolling his chair forward so he is practically pushed up against his desk; he points an accusatory finger at his monitor. “This is why I moved out!”
“Don't listen to this idiot, guys,” Yuji snarls, shaking his head. “He doesn't know what he's talking about,”
It was all humorous, really. Yuji wasn't actually irritated at his brother, well, maybe a little bit. But it wasn't as if it were to be taken too seriously by any means. The two argued all of the time, especially when he was still living with him and the two shared a tiny, cramped bedroom.
Just then, Yuji hears the door to his room click open and the concerned voice of his roommate as he stands outside the door; half covered to try avoid appearing in the stream.
It was Megumi, again.
“Hey,” Megumi's voice stutters as he speaks, notably nervous at appearing on stream once again. It's something that Yuji doesn't see very often from his roommate, the sight almost being uncharacteristic, seeing the usually cool headed young man look so anxious.
Yuji slips his headphones off and lifts himself up off his chair, stretching as he lets out a yawn. He heads over to where Megumi is standing and flashes him a warm smile. “Hey, is everything okay?” He asks, cocking his head to the side.
“I was about to ask you the same thing, actually,” Megumi murmurs, his voice quiet as he speaks; almost sheepish. He looks up at Yuji and frowns. “I could hear you shouting from the other room,” He clarifies. “Thought something bad happened,”
Yuji damn near squawked at the statement.
“Oh my goodness, I'm so sorry-!” Yuji stammers out an apology, hands flailing in the air as he desperately tries to make up for his actions. He completely forgot that today was Megumi's day off and had unintentionally caused a disruption.
Megumi blinks in surprise at this, sighing softly at the sight of his friend panicking to such an unreasonable extent. He rubs his forehead, shaking his head. “Stop apologising, it's fine,” He mutters.
This gets a pout from Yuji and an accusatory finger to his chest.
“It's not fine though!” He snaps back, a disapproving look on his face. Megumi groans. “I was being too careless and I ended up bothering you,” He murmurs, shoulders slouching slightly.
“I was more worried about you than myself, really,” Megumi counters, doing anything to get the other to stop apologising to him. “You sounded distressed.” He explains, curiosity piqued.
Of course Megumi was more concerned about him than he was himself.
“You worry about me too much.” Yuji whines, crossing his arms over his chest. It was true, the other man was always fretting over him, almost like a mother-hen, just less gentle and doting. It was much more passive aggressive with Megumi; with painful punches to his side to gentle scolding and threats over the little things.
He'll never forget the time Megumi threatened to sell his entire gaming setup not too long after they had both moved in together. At this time Yuji was still struggling prioritising his mental health, in particular his sleep schedule which was more than concerning. Megumi had naturally picked up on his shift in behaviour, noticing his slow deterioration in health and had decided to step in.
“If you don't sort yourself out, I will sell your entire gaming set up online,” Megumi says sternly, arms crossed over his chest in a disapproving manner. “This is absolutely absurd, Yuji,”
Yuji practically squeals at Megumi; a look of absolute horror and betrayal plastered over his face. “What?!” He stammers, throwing his hands in the air. “Why?! You don’t need to do that!” He wails, pouty and petulant like a child.
As annoyed as he was, he couldn’t deny it; Megumi was right. His sleep schedule was abhorrent, and even his own viewers were beginning to comment on his lack of sleep, noticing the eyebags forming beneath his eyes, dark and ugly, a reminder of his inability to care for himself.
“I’m worried about you, that’s why,” Megumi mutters, voice softer this time, lacking the same bite it had just mere moments ago. He places a gentle hand on Yuji’s shoulder. “You need to take better care of yourself,”
“I worry about you because you’re reckless, Yuji,” Megumi grumbles, shaking his head in disappointment. Although there’s no real bite behind his words, just concern for someone who didn’t seem to care for themselves as much as they should. “Anyway, It seems you’re fine,”
Yuji nods, giving Megumi an apologetic look. “Yeah, I was just messing around with Sukuna, that's all,” He laughs sheepishly, feeling rather embarrassed about worrying Megumi so much.
Megumi hums. “That does seem to be about right for you,” He nods with a quiet, amused chuckle. “You two are always fighting, after all,”
“Are you sure you’re alright, though?” Yuji asks, deciding to change the subject back to Megumi. The man is still hiding behind his bedroom door, a desperate attempt to hide himself from being visible on stream. If he thinks the other hasn’t noticed his nervous glances over at his monitor, he’d be sorely mistaken. “We can step outside if you’d like?” He asks reassuringly, a small smile on his face.
Megumi stammers at this; his ears flushing, tinted red from embarrassment. He shakes his head, lip twitching as he tries and ultimately fails to get his words out. “No-” He splutters, waving a hand in Yuji’s face. “It's all okay, I think,” He mutters anxiously.
Yuji stifles a laugh, placing a hand over his mouth in an attempt to hide just how much he was enjoying the sight of his friend’s embarrassed face. It was quite endearing, really, seeing the other so anxious at something that was so mundane to Yuji; the norm.
“Don’t laugh, asshole.” Megumi snaps back, gently whacking the other on the shoulder, causing him to yelp out in distress.
“I’m sorry, okay!” Yuji apologises, snickering quietly. He did feel bad for the man, really. But he couldn’t deny just how funny it was seeing the other’s embarrassed face.
Megumi sighs. “Whatever..”
Yuji pats his shoulder reassuringly, the guilt beginning to seep in. “Was there anything else you needed?” He asks, smiling warmly at the other who still seemed to be quite petulant about being teased.
“Ah, no.” Megumi replies, shaking his head. “I’ll let you get back to streaming now.” He mutters, stepping away from the door, discomfort still present on his face.
Just as he had done yesterday, Yuji watches as Megumi silently leaves the room; heading towards his own bedroom.
Yuji sighs, quietly mumbling something under his breath as he shuts the door to his room before heading back to his desk area. He sits down, slipping his headphones on, giving an apologetic look to his chat. He knew he was going to have to, once again, address what had just happened with his roommate, and based on yesterday’s reactions he had a feeling his chat would be ever more curious.
“Sorry about that, everyone.” Yuji apologies, eyes glancing over his chat, gauging their reactions once again. “Guess I shoulda’ kept the noise down, huh?” He chuckles, a sheepish look on his face.
plantlover: omg!! was that mystery roommate?!
Yujizhair: bro thought he was dying - was actually just beefing w sukuna lol
FshionFann: Not again, Yuji omds
thukuna: omg stop talking to ur bf u freak
Yujiscontroller: is he actually his boyfriend?!?
thukuna: prolly
Fernkitty: fym prolly
“Sukuna!” Yuji yells, feeling his face beginning to heat up from embarrassment, voice stuttering as he tries to get his words out. “Don't suggest things like that!” He stammers, scoffing slightly as he throws up a middle finger to the screen, directed towards his brother.
He should have expected it from Sukuna. After all, his brother wasn't one to shy away from teasing him, even if it was at the expense of bringing his poor roommate into it. That didn't mean it was any the less humiliating, however, and he could only be thankful that Megumi wasn't one to watch his streams; if that weren't the case he's sure his career would be over.
“I doubt you could even hear what we were talking about, anyway” Yuji grumbles childishly, crossing his arms over his chest in a childish pout. He was slightly annoyed at his brother for dragging Megumi into his teasing, but even more so at suggesting the two were dating.
After all, knew better than anyone that comments like that could fuel his viewers to suggest similar things, and, quite frankly, he didn't want to have to put up with that.
He knew that he and Megumi were rather close. It was only to be expected, considering the fact that they had been living together for nearly two years. Even he could admit that sometimes they acted rather domestically with one another; behaving more like a couple than two best friends just trying to make ends meet.
But he didn't think that it was fair to suggest they were dating. Yuji didn't like Megumi like that, and he was almost positive the same could be said for the other.
strictlystripy: we could hear what u two were saying lol
thukuna: stop getting all soft on ur boyfriend it's weird as shit
starsnmoons: LOL ur really getting called out
Iforgiveu: this is insane lol
Yuji curses under his breath.
“He's not my boyfriend.” Yuji reiterates, grumbling quietly. He decided not to mention the strange, warm, fuzzy feeling he got from the concept of Megumi being his boyfriend. It was just embarrassment, that's all it was, nothing more, nothing less.
“Seriously guys, he's just my friend.” Yuji sighs, shaking his head. As humorous as it could seem seeing his brother tease him, accusing him of being in a relationship with his roommate; Yuji had to be realistic and set the boundaries. “Sukuna is just trying to annoy me.”
Dragging a hand over his face, Yuji decides to change the topic of conversation. Quite frankly he was exhausted, wanting nothing more than to end the stream and take a nap, especially after the events that had just taken place live on his stream.
Unfortunately for Yuji, he couldn't just simply do that. Instead, he had to suck it up for another hour or so until he could find a reasonable excuse to end his stream.
With a yawn, he gets back into whatever game he was before; an attempt at not only distracting his viewers but himself. A distraction from the uncomfortable, new feeling settling in his stomach when he thought of his brother referring to Megumi as his boyfriend.
It was probably nothing.
If Megumi wasn’t embarrassed before he absolutely was now.
He was lying in his bed, the covers pulled tight over his head as he tried to shut out the noise of his roommate, Yuji, in the other room. He couldn’t hear exactly what he was talking about from his bedroom, but he could make out the quiet laughter and the angry remarks from whenever he would get upset at his video game.
He didn’t necessarily mind the noise; it was something he had grown accustomed to over the past few years, and had quickly accepted it after the two had set some boundaries for one another.
But he just couldn’t quite shake the humiliation from earlier on away.
This was the second time he had walked in on Yuji whilst he was streaming, albeit the second time had been intentional, it was still equally as embarrassing as the first time had been.
Megumi knew the clips were out there online but, quite frankly, he didn't want to see them. He was disgustingly aware of how awkward he must have looked, cowering behind his roommate's door, face flushed red as he tried, and ultimately failed to get his words out.
It was horrible. Absolutely horrible. Perhaps one of the worst things that Megumi had ever gone through which is saying a lot. Especially considering there had been a time where Gojo had picked him up from school in his car, blasting obscene music as he called out his name; a desperate attempt to embarrass Megumi who couldn’t have been older than thirteen. (He didn’t speak to the man for over a week after this, only caving in after the other promised him a trip to his favourite bookstore.)
Even worse than the simple act of walking into his best friend's room whilst he was streaming was the stupidly concerned look on his face–the way he fretted over him, completely aware of his anxieties surrounding appearing on stream.
The other knew how quickly embarrassed he could get and had absolutely taken advantage of it, finding it possible to be both comforting but equally as annoying; each soft word of comfort laced with teasing intention, taking advantage of his vulnerabilities just to see his flustered face.
It made him feel things he wasn’t quite sure someone should be feeling about their best friend.
Megumi groaned, curling in on himself further as he squeezed his eyes shut, desperately searching for sleep. Maybe if he was asleep he could finally escape his busy mind, swirling with thoughts of his roommate that felt so wildly inappropriate that he felt his cheeks heating up just thinking about them.
“Fuck..” He groans, his grip on his phone tightening. Realistically, he knew what this behaviour was leading too; the end conclusion. But he wasn't going to accept it so easily. He wasn't about to ruin something he had so perfectly curated over the past two years.
Yuji Itadori was just his friend.
But it was getting harder to believe as the days went by.
Megumi woke up to the sound of yelling.
It was loud, piercing, almost. The noise alone was enough to make him groan with irritation, curling into his sheets. Squeezing his eyes shut as if that was going to dampen the sound of his roommate furiously yelling at his video games.
“What the fuck..” Megumi mumbles, a small yawn escaping his lips as he finally decides to sit up in his bed, unable to deal with the shouting any longer. The blankets wrapped around his body slowly fall off, sitting idly at his feet as he rubs at his eyes in an attempt to remove any sleep.
He could already feel his eyes drooping, exhaustion clinging to him. He wanted more than anything to collapse back under the covers and fall asleep; embraced by the warmth of his multitude of blankets. But he couldn't.
Not when he could still faintly hear the sound of Yuji yelling from the other room, subjecting him to even further torture as he feels his headache worsening. He groans, dragging a hand down his face. “Yuji..” He mumbles under his breath, the words slipping out clumsily.
Megumi was already aware that Yuji would be streaming through the night. It was something that was discussed beforehand, and he had no issue with it. He understood how important streaming was to his friend and he didn’t want to constantly impose bans on when he could and couldn’t stream, not wanting to come across as too controlling or demanding. So he agreed, as long as Yuji promised to keep the noise down since he had to go to work the next morning.
Clearly Yuji had forgotten about the being quiet part.
Megumi didn’t like having to ask Yuji to turn down the noise, finding he always felt extremely awkward doing so and the face on his otherwise pure friend was absolutely not worth it. But there was only so long he could put up with the noise and he was beginning to reach his limit.
Especially considering the fact that he had to go to work in the morning and being sleep deprived while working was not a good look on him, and would be setting himself up for a terrible day ahead.
Suppressing a yawn, Megumi climbs out of bed, hand gripping his bedside table as he tries not to stumble. A groan escapes his lips as he stretches, feeling his bones crack as he lifts his arms up. All the while he fumbles around in the dark to slide his slippers on, not wanting to walk around their apartment bare foot in the middle of the night.
He heads for the door, exiting his room quietly as he begins to head down the hallway to his roommates room. He has to feel for the wall as he moves, making sure not to trip over the cardboard box laying stray outside Yuji’s room, something he had been meaning to throw away.
It barely even occurs to him that he’s about to walk into Yuji’s room as he’s streaming once again, only this time he looks undoubtedly terrible, his hair tousled and posture an indescribable mess as his shoulders slouch. The only thing he’s thinking about is getting the noise to stop and climbing back into his bed where it was nice and warm.
He reaches Yuji’s room relatively quickly and doesn’t even hesitate to open the door and walk straight in; the exhaustion riding him of any anxiety he would usually feel about entering his friend’s room when he’s streaming. This would soon prove to be one of the biggest mistakes he could ever make, and he wouldn’t even remember it in the morning.
“Yuji..?”
Yuji was not aware of how loud he was being.
It was early in the morning and he was streaming a new video game that he had just recently purchased the morning prior. It was a long series and he knew that he'd want to be playing for a prolonged, uninterrupted amount of time; hence streaming through the night.
He had consulted Megumi about it a few days before and he had begrudgingly agreed to the matter. As long as Yuji made sure to keep the noise down, he was completely fine with the other streaming late into the night.
It was a reasonable request. The only issue being that Yuji had forgotten about this seemingly small and simple request and couldn't even come close to comprehending just how loud he was being.
“Stupid game..” Yuji grumbles, eyes rolling to the back of his head. He was aware that this game could be rather difficult, having read some of the reviews before stream but he completely misjudged just how hard it would be. It wasn't as if Yuji thought he was an exceptionally talented gamer but he would also like to think that he wasn't bad.
But this was just beyond his own comprehension.
olivelamp: bro is so mad LMAOOO
starrynight: im crine he looks genuinely annoyed
redfeathers: he's literally crashing out lol
Blueflames: ikr this is so fucking funny
“You guys don't get it!” Yuji yells, throwing his hands up in the air. “This is absolutely absurd!” He shouts, shaking his head angrily, a disapproving look on his face. If it wasn’t for the fact that he was already five hours deep into this video game he might have given up and quit it for good.
But he wasn't about to do that. Especially not after the absurd amount of money he had spent on it.
He was so upset about the video game that he didn't hear the footsteps making their way down the hall. Nor did he hear his door quietly opening as someone made themselves present in his room, their face dazed.
It wasn't until he heard their voice, quiet, gravely and slightly confused as they spoke; did he then realise what had just happened.
He had woken Megumi up.
“Yuji?..” Megumi sounded exhausted, his voice trembling as he speaks. It nearly broke Yuji’s heart seeing his best friend looking so defeated, knowing that he was to blame for the sullen look on his face.
Immediately Yuji panicked, taking his headphones off and discarding them on the floor as he scrambled out of his chair, not caring for his un-paused game and his chat which must have been blowing up at the sight of his roommate once again. The only thing that mattered right now was getting Megumi back to his room and apologising for his downright abhorrent behaviour.
Megumi must have been exhausted; completely out of it, Yuji realises. Otherwise he wouldn't have willingly stepped foot into his room without a care in the world. Knowing that he was visible to the couple thousand people who were watching his stream, and most likely clipping this moment to post it on social media.
This was going to be a long night.
Megumi stood idly in the middle of his room, looking wobbly on his feet, his sleep seemingly beginning to catch up with him. He watched as the other yawned, gently rubbing his eyes in a poor attempt to keep himself awake.
If it wasn't for the fact that he shouldn't even be awake in the first place, Yuji would have called it cute.
“Megumi!” Yuji calls out, not really caring about letting the name slip past his lips. He rushes over to the other side, concerned hands gripping his shoulders as he tries to redirect the other's attention to his face. “Is everything alright?” He splutters, voice shaking as he speaks.
Megumi slowly blinks up at him, eyebrows furrowing as he stares longingly into his own, embarrassed face. He mumbles something incoherent under his breath, eyes drooping slightly.
Yuji bites his lip. He really was out of it, huh.
“Hey, stay with me, Megs,'” Yuji whispers gently, a small, anxious smile appearing on his face as he brings a finger to gently lift the other's chin up so he is properly looking up at him. “Is everything okay?”
“Turn it down, please..” Megumi mumbles out, almost comedically as his words slur, his lower lip upturning into a pout. It was almost laughable how childish he looked. “Tryna sleep, idiot..” He huffs out, a disapproving look on his face as he slowly shakes his head.
Yuji laughs quietly, the guilt beginning to creep back up as the other reiterates his simple request. “I know, I'm sorry..” Yuji murmurs, eyes trained on Megumi's face, noticing just how exhausted he looked. He frowns. “You're really tired, huh?” He asks softly, rubbing the others shoulder gently.
A small, shocked gasp escapes Megumi's lips and if it wasn’t for the deafening silence in his bedroom, Yuji would have almost missed it. He smiles. Clearly the other hadn't been expecting the gentle touch.
“Got work t’morrow” Megumi mumbles sleepily, another quiet yawn escaping his lips; eyes fluttering shut and head drooping.
Yuji nods, giving the man an empathetic look. He felt extremely bad for the other, seeing just how tired he looked as he stood there, helpless as ever and relying on Yuji's touch just to stand upright. He could feel as the other's body swayed slightly, knees looking as if they were about to buckle any moment.
“C'mon..” Yuji whispers quietly, his voice soft and reassuring, not wanting to distress the dazed Megumi. He takes hold of his hand, fingers wrapping around it protectively, not caring for the weak, gentle grip that the other has on his own. “Let's get you to bed..”
Yuji gently coaxes Megumi out of his bedroom, soft, reassuring words leaving his lips as he leads his tired roommate down the hallway and into his own bedroom. Megumi follows obediently, feet dragging across the carpet as he walks, putting little to no effort as he walks, allowing himself to be pulled along like a ragdoll.
Yuji doesn't think he's ever seen the other so complacent, his eyes glossy with exhaustion as he mutters incomprehensible whines under his breath.
He pushes the door open to Megumi's room, guiding him over to his bed. He sits down, Megumi following in suit, their hands still clasped together despite not needing to be so anymore. It makes Yuji's heart flutter, a strange, uncomfortable feeling bubbling up in his chest as he looks down at their hands in the darkness, his own grip much tighter than his friends.
He finds he isn't quite ready to let go yet.
Yuji sighs quietly, allowing himself to close his eyes and relax for the first time in a few hours. If it wasn't for the fact that he had a stream to return to and a roommate clinging to his side he's sure he could fall asleep at any moment, the darkness of his friends room tricking him into thinking it was ready to let sleep envelop him.
It's then that he feels a weight on his side, the feeling that something is leaning against him; not quite crushing him, no, it's much too gentle to do that.
He blinks his eyes open, eyebrows furrowing in confusion as he glances over to where Megumi was sitting besides him. Or at least should have been sitting besides him.
Instead, the other was leaning up against him, exhaustion having fully taken over his body as it succumbed to sleep.
Clearly the simple act of walking to his room had tired him out and simply waiting until he was fully situated in his bed was no longer an option. As a result of this, his head had taken to resting on top of his shoulder, surely a much more comfortable position than letting it droop downwards. It slot in rather perfectly, as if made to be there. Quiet mumbles that could nearly be mistaken for as whines escape his lips as he buries himself closer, nosing into the nook of his neck, something impossibly out of character for the usually stoic, unaffectionate Megumi.
Yuji’s eyes widened and a million, panicked thoughts raced through his mind all at once; confusion plaguing him as he watched over his sleeping friend’s figure, a moment so vulnerable and domestic that a voice in the back of his head began to truly question his relationship with his best friend. It was something he couldn’t even begin to comprehend, still debating with himself what his next move should be, ever aware of the fact that he had thousands of people awaiting his return in the next room.
But Megumi looked so peaceful as he slept and Yuji had already wronged him once tonight.
“Megumi?..” Yuji whispers, still unsure of whether he wanted to wake Megumi up or accept his fate and sit on his best friend's bed for the rest of the night as the other slept peacefully on him, blissfully unaware as to what this suggested about their relationship. The thought alone was another to make his cheeks warm up and a whine escaped his lips, wanting nothing more to get up and run away, lock himself in his bedroom and never show his face to Megumi ever again.
“It’s normal for friends to fall asleep with each other, right?” Yuji mumbles to himself, desperately trying to rationalise with himself. It wasn't working.
Yuji recalled a time in which Nobara had drank one too many drinks after a celebratory party and had collapsed into his arms, clinging onto him like a cat with severe attachment issues. It was hilarious at the time, and he spent the next few hours nursing a drunk Nobara back to health, taking her back to their shared apartment where Megumi had immediately jumped into action, an annoyed yet concerned look plastered over his face.
But that was different. Although Nobara had, rather clumsily, fallen asleep in his arms he didn’t find his cheeks warming up from embarrassment. Nor did he have an ever growing urge to stroke her hair, whisper sweet nothings into her ears and drop absolutely everything in favour of taking care of her, not caring for the consequences coming his way.
It wasn’t that he didn’t care for Nobara, he absolutely did as she was one of his closest friends. But he simply didn’t feel that way towards Nobara. The thought alone made him cringe a little and he had to shake his head to rid himself of the thoughts.
But when it came to Megumi he wanted to do all of those things and more.
But could he seriously justify those feelings; play them off as just simply caring for his best friend in a vulnerable position. Or was there something more to his seemingly selfish desires that told him to keep Megumi all for himself. An unwanted, protective, jealous feeling in his chest bubbling as he thought of people posting the clip of his friend, vulnerable and dazed, stumbling into his room.
It just wasn’t right. None of what was happening was right.
Megumi was his best friend and he would do absolutely anything to keep the other man safe. It was a given considering just how much he had supported him over the past couple of years and quite frankly he didn't know where he would be without the other.
Probably still living in a cramped apartment with Sukuna, a messed up sleep schedule and an even more horrendous diet; one that consisted purely of takeaways and cup noodles.
The thought made him shiver.
So it was such a terrifying thought that he was beginning to have feelings for Megumi. Ones that challenged their relationship, threatening the nice, peaceful life that Yuji had built up for himself over the past few years. One wrong step and he could destroy it all, losing his best friend in a matter of minutes if he messed up their relationship. He simply couldn't afford to do so.
But the sight of Megumi asleep in his arms, the most vulnerable he had ever seen the other; it was too much. It was something so precious, so personal that he's sure very few people had ever seen the man look so relaxed before.
Just then he feels Megumi beginning to shuffle beside him, a quiet yawn escaping his lips as he begins to wake up from his short-lasting nap. He drags a hand down his face, groaning as he sits up, not having yet noticed that he had just fallen asleep on his best friend.
Yuji gulps, unable to look him in the eyes, deciding the bare carpet looked much more interesting instead of his friend's sleepy face. (Megumi was far more interesting.)
“Yuji?..” Megumi's voice is coarse, confused and tired. There's a furrow in his eyebrow as he speaks and Yuji glances up at him, throwing him a small, apologetic smile.
“Hey, you fell asleep back there,” Yuji laughs quietly, feeling a sudden urge to get up and leave, embarrassment growing. “It's okay, you didn't snore or anything,” He banters, figuring he might as well try to break the awkward tension.
Megumi blinks slowly before returning the small smile. “Ah, that's my bad.” He apologises, shaking his head quietly as he gently rubs away at his eyes. “I hope it wasn't too awkward,” He mutters, suddenly unable to keep eye contact.
“Nah, it's fine” Yuji reassures, knowing more than anyone that it was in fact not fine. If anything he was currently having a crisis; but Megumi didn't have to know that.
“I should be the one apologising if anything,” Yuji adds on, deciding to change the topic. He wasn't sure he could keep up the awkward conversation anymore and he was ready to wrap things up and leave the room. “I didn't mean to wake you up,” He mutters apologetically, an anxious look on his face.
Megumi shakes his head. “It's fine, it was just a little too loud, is all,” He mutters, a hand moving to cover his mouth in an attempt to suppress another yawn.
Yuji frowns. He disagrees with Megumi saying that everything was fine but he wasn't going to argue with the other, especially so late into the night. He was more concerned about ruining the other's sleep schedule more than anything.
“You should go back to sleep.” Yuji mumbles quietly, patting the other gently on the shoulder as he forces himself to stand up, having gotten rather comfortable on Megumi's plush mattress. “You've got work tomorrow after all,” He says, somewhat sternly as if he wasn't the reason the other was awake in the first place.
Megumi nods. “Yeah, you're right.” He agrees, climbing back into bed and pulling the covers over his head until all Yuji could see with a pile of fluffy black hair.
Huh. It kinda looked like a sea-urchin.
“Good night, Yuji.” Megumi murmurs, voice already trailing as his eyes shut on instinct the minute his head hits the pillow, curling in on himself in a rather adorable manner.
Yuji chuckles quietly. “Good night, Megumi,” he whispers. A daring hand reaches towards the other's head, a sudden urge to flatten his hair growing within his chest. He quickly pulls it back, uncertain of whether his friend would be comfortable with such affectionate touch or not.
With a quiet sigh he steps out of the room, taking one final glance at his sleeping roommate before closing the door shut.
He heads back to his bedroom without another thought, deciding he could deal with his complicated feelings in the morning when his head didn't feel so heavy, plagued with exhaustion. For now, he had a stream to continue and a chat to address. He groaned.
Opening the door to his room he quietly heads back over to his desk and chair, sitting down and slipping his headphones back on. Immediately he notices his chat speeding up, messages that were undoubtedly questioning what had just happened and desperately asking for updates.
This was going to be a long night.
“Hey everyone,” Yuji starts apologetically, this time making sure to keep his voice quieter than he originally had. “I'm sorry to have to keep you all waiting, but I'm sure you all understand,” He explains, a small smile appearing on his face, having at least some trust in his viewers to not be upset by his sudden disappearance.
sunshinerainbowz: omg ur back !!!
oraangebeeezz: who was that ?!?!
ultimateloser: mystery roommate again ??? :0
sleepdeprived: did Yuji wake up his roommate omfggg??!!
pinkkalien: guys yuji looked SO soft with his roommate
bluribbonz: did u guys catch his name ?? I think it was Megumi !!
Yuji had to physically hold back a groan, far too tired to address the questions from his viewers. Quite frankly he didn't owe them any explanation and he was more than aware of this fact, having turned them down on multiple occasions.
But he decided he might as well inform them about this, seeing as they had already seen his roommate appear on stream before. He knew they wouldn't give it up until he gave even the smallest of answers, this interaction far too personal to go unanswered.
He'd just have to keep things as polite and respectful as possible.
“You'd be right in saying that was my roommate again,” Yuji begins, leaning back in his chair, deciding that he might as well get comfortable. “And yes, his name is Megumi but please don't go searching for him online,” He adds sternly, making sure to set everything clearly with his viewers.
Once again, it wasn't as if he thought his viewers were parasocial enough to go stalking his roommate just because he had appeared on stream; it seemed they had more etiquette than most streamers chats. But he knew that there were, unfortunately, a small minority out there who took it a step too far, their curiosity getting the better of them.
If anyone did try to stalk Megumi's social media and began harassing him. Well, the thought alone had Yuji bubbling with anger, upset that someone would drag him into this despite none of this being his fault in the first place.
“I ask for you to respect his boundaries and not harass him,” Yuji asks gently, not wanting to appear as if he was scolding his chat for something they hadn’t yet done. But still wanting to make it very clear that he wouldn’t tolerate people taking things too far. “I understand your excitement but he’s just my roommate,” He chuckles quietly, the thought of someone freaking out over his roommate being somewhat hilarious.
Spottyshroom: the interaction between u guys was so cute !!
fairiesxgarden: its adorable seeing you so gentle with him lol !
friutygay: ur roommate looked so adorable !!
bluddymeadow: don’t be too weird guys
Ineffablehusbands: the clip is already on social media lmfao
Just reading the messages were enough to fluster Yuji and he could feel his face heating up as each message filtered through the chat. All he could hope for was that his camera didn’t pick up just how red his face was beginning to get; unsure of what he would do if anyone were to call him out on just how embarrassed he was becoming.
“Yeah, he is pretty cute!” Yuji laughs nervously, rubbing the back of his neck in an anxious manner. Yuji had experienced some extremely embarrassing things whilst on stream before, moments that he would rather not revisit; the humiliation overbearing. But this was on a whole other level of humiliating and he was mere moments away from turning the camera off and jumping into bed to never be seen by the camera again.
The realisation that the clip was already on social media terrified him. It went without a doubt that it was trending and the thought that either Megumi, or god forbid one of his family members could see it was a daunting concept. Megumi was already quite inactive on social media so he wasn’t necessarily worried about him stumbling across the clip, his feed mostly consisting of cute dog pictures and book discussions from other literature majors. But there was a higher chance that his family could come across the clip and they would undoubtedly share it with Megumi.
Especially if it were Gojo who were to stumble across the video.
Yuji decides to end the stream shortly after answering a few more questions from his viewers, avoiding the questions that were far too personal for his liking. He was unable to keep streaming any longer, knowing what his future entailed and it terrified him. It was one thing having to confront his feelings for his best friend but everything happening in the public eye, out of his control; that was even more terrifying.
But less for himself. He knew he could handle the online space having been involved in it since he was a teenager. Megumi, however, was mostly inactive on social media and given his recent reactions to accidentally appearing on stream recently, Yuji is almost certain he wouldn't be able to cope with people speculating their relationship online.
Quite frankly it made him worry for the future of their relationship. But he knew that for now he had to keep doing his job all the whilst keeping Megumi safe from the public eye, refusing to allow him to be swept up in the world of social media, one he was unfamiliar with and would never thrive in.
Yuji sighs, dragging a hand over his face. This had turned into something much larger than he was comfortable with and now it was up to him to deal with the consequences. Although he couldn’t be too upset considering this was his fault in the first place.
Deciding that he wouldn't be able to sleep for the rest of the night, Yuji clambers onto his bed, grabbing his laptop from the ground to turn on a movie that he had been planning to watch for the past couple of weeks. Megumi would absolutely scold him in the morning but quite frankly he couldn’t find it in himself to care at the moment, the stress of the past hour eating away at him, refusing to let him sleep.
Turning on the movie, Yuji allows himself to lean backwards and sigh. His phone was face down on his nightstand, far from reach, where it belonged. If he were to open it he’s almost certain he’d get caught up in all the posts circulating social media from his fans about him and Megumi, and he knew that wasn’t, in any circumstance, good for him.
Tomorrow he would talk to Megumi and they could work everything out together. He would buy his roommate whatever he wanted as an apology; food, drink, however many books he desired. Yuji would do anything for his forgiveness, the thought of losing him gnawing away at him as he desperately tried to let himself focus on the movie he was watching.
But until then he would allow himself to try and relax.
