Work Text:
The class has pulled their desks out of rows and into small groupings to work on their projects.
Danny sits sideways in his desk to face Tucker properly as they look over the documents on the latter's desk.
“I still don’t think that this is a feasible project for school,” Tucker frowns, tapping the end of the pencil on the page.
“Why not,” Sam asks, brushing a lock of hair behind her ear as she leans closer. “Between the Fenton Tech, your tech wizardry, Danny’s engineering, and my connections, we could easily pull it off.”
“But this is, like, so much. We could do half of this and still complete the assignment,” Tucker says.
“I mean sure, but I need the bonus points to pull my GPA up,” Danny says. “If anything, we could pull out this part here,” he taps a part of the blueprint on Sam’s desk, “and replace it with a more basic power source like batteries or similar.”
“But then we’d have to change out the entire regulator for-”
Tucker gets cut off as Danny gasps, a blue wisp floating out of his mouth.
He slumps, banging his head onto the desk with a groan.
“I hate my life,” he says into the desk.
“Half life, babypop,” Ember sing-songs above him, where she floats.
“Whatever,” he looks up to glare at her. “What are you doing here?”
“I need help,” she starts.
“With what?”
“Well, I want to borrow your girlfriend-”
“Not my girlfriend!” “Not his girlfriend!” Sam and Danny say at the same time.
“You’re not fooling anyone,” Ember rolls her eyes and drops down to stand over the trio.
“Why do you want to borrow me?” Sam asks, leaning away. “Last I checked, we weren’t friends.”
“No but you're friends with babypop and I’m friends with babypop so we’re friends-in-law.”
“That’s not a thing.” Tucker comments.
“Can we get back to you needing help and need Sam for it?” Danny asks, turning in his seat in a way to make Ember step back from towering.
“Girl’s thing, you wouldn’t understand.”
“That’s not gonna fly.”
“Just tell me,” Sam says, getting to her feet.
Ember walks through the desk to whisper in her ear.
Sam’s eyes go wide.
“What?” Danny and Tucker ask.
“Girl’s thing,” Sam says, waving a hand.
“Okay but does that need to happen right now?” Danny asks, “Is it an emergency girl’s thing?”
“No,” Sam says, taking her seat again. “It can wait.”
“Cool, then Ember can we do this after school?” Danny asks.
“But this doesn’t involve you,” she says, crossing her arms.
“No, but it involves Sam and I need her to finish this project. You may be dead dead, but I still have living homework to do.”
“Fine, I’ll catch you later babypop,” She says with a sigh.
She floats to the window before stopping to blow a kiss at Sam, “Thanks Dollface.”
“Ew, never call me that again,” Sam makes a show of gagging.
“Nope,” she pops the P and then vanishes.
“Okay, so where were we,” Danny asks, turning back to the paperwork.
“Wait, wait, wait,” Dash says, standing up at his desk. “What the actual fuck Fenton?”
“Language,” Lancer says.
“No this needs a full swear, because you just told a ghost to leave and she did?!”
“That is concerning yes, but what is this girl’s thing that you need to help her with, Manson?”
“I can’t say, that goes against girl code,” Sam says.
Lancer pinches the bridge of his nose.
“Okay but will you tell us?” Starr asks.
“Why?” Sam asks.
“Cause you made a deal with a ghost?”
“And that’s kinda cool,” Paulina says.
Sam sighs, “It’s really not that big of a deal, but you’re not a friend-in-law with us to know anyways.”
“That is not a thing,” Tucker says again. “Why do you act like that’s a thing?”
“Because the friend of my friend is also my friend,” Sam says.
“That’s not- do you mean the enemy of my enemy is my friend?” Tucker asks.
“No, I said what I said.” Sam says.
“You should still tell us,” Danny says.
“Didn’t you hear, it’s girl code.” Paulina says.
“And there’s three constants in life; death, taxes and girl code.” Starr continues.
“Well death doesn’t always stick,” Danny mutters.
