Chapter 1: Just another morning

Chapter Text

It was just another morning. Leaves of red and orange brushed along the grass as a gust of wind passed by, the sky was etched in a warm shade of yellow, and just above a hill you could see a beaming light, ready to shower the world in all its glory. Mossy Bottom farm was beginning to come alive, chickens clucked, and the pigs snorted as they basked in the morning air, and soon the sheep began to make their way outside.

Shaun was the first to interrupt the quiet morning with a yawn, he walked towards the trough and waited for Bitzer to fill it up, other sheep followed closely behind him. Eventually Bitzer headed their way, with such a big bag of sheep food in hand you could barely see his head behind it, he ripped it open and let the pellets pour out of the bag into the trough, all of the sheep around immediately dove in to eat, with Bitzer getting caught in the way, as usual. Shaun looked around to see if the Farmer was around, and gave Bitzer a small wave, he waved back before crossing off a box on his clipboard, heading off to do another task, Shaun watched as he walked away, mornings like these were always boring, and as always, it was his job to make it not-so-boring.

So for a while he workshopped some ideas but none of them seemed quite right, the flock seemed like they were due for another pizza party, or perhaps since it IS this time of season, a movie marathon night in the farmhouse! Yes, now he was heading somewhere! Yesterday, Bitzer might’ve mentioned that the Farmer might be out on a date tonight with his girlfriend, and Bitzer had been complaining about how stressful his work has been for a while, he couldn’t say no to a movie night! Everything seemed perfect, but then there came the real issue.. Just how was he going to deal with Pidsley?

He decided to disclose to the flock about his idea, and the issue concerning it.. Nuts recommended he build a slingshot that could shoot Pidsley far from the farm, and possibly even reach space! Hazel suggested he could come up with a compromise with the stubborn cat, and everybody else’s ideas were just as absurd as Nuts’s. No, they weren’t going to ship him to Abu Dhabi, and there was no way they could convince NASA to send him on a spaceship to mars.

What they needed was something—Hold on, make a compromise with Pidsley?

Hazel had to be kidding, there was no way they could ever achieve a deal with him even if he was offered a lifetime of frozen mice! Shaun asked Hazel to elaborate more, and she did.

That whole afternoon Shaun prepared to enact Hazel’s plan, just until the Farmer was gone of course, but he was taking a horrendously long time to leave the house. Shaun sat outside and played with a leaf, twisting it around, tearing pieces off, anything to keep himself engaged and awake.

By the time the Farmer was finally off, he was already dozing off, a nearby sheep decided to shake him awake, Shaun woke up startled, stumbling as he tried to stand, he realized that the sheep was trying to tell him that the Farmer was finally gone, Shaun stretched his arms out to crack his knuckles, now came the hard part.

Pidsley wasn’t just going to give them access to the house without a fight, Bitzer was too busy with his tasks, the poor dog, and none of the sheep felt like having to deal with Pidsley, So Shaun took it upon himself to do this, in the hopes this ridiculous feud would end, and also for the chance to have a movie marathon night.

He walked up towards the wooden green door and knocked on it, he heard shuffling behind the door before it opened, Pidsley stood there and crossed his arms, what did Shaun want now?

Shaun took a sigh and started to converse, since the Farmer was out Pidsley could surely share the house for the flock, it would just be tonight after all! Plus, he could join them, they wouldn’t be a bother. By the look of Pidsley’s face it was obvious that he wasn’t interested, Shaun was getting worried this might’ve not gone how he imagined at all, but he persisted.

Nope, nope this was a mistake. You can’t reason with someone as stubborn as Pidsley! All he did was shake his head no! Shaun had hoped that Hazel would be right about this, that he’d give in and not be such a stubborn little!!..

Wait, what if this worked.. What if he could offer something no cat could say no to?

Pidsley waited for Shaun to say something, he was too smart to fall for another one of his tricks, but it was funny seeing him struggle in efforts to convince him.

But when mentions of fish came into the conversation, he opened the door almost right away.
