Chapter Text
Parrot had sat idly by the water, kicking his feet in the water. The only oddity about this whole thing was the fact it was pouring, he sat in soaked clothes. Fully dressed in adventuring gear that would see no more critical damage now.
Now that he was safe.
“Parrot.” Like the devil, Wifies appears. His face is blank, like the day when he forced Parrot into Peregon. “It’s storming out, we need to get inside. You’ll catch a cold.” It was never a request, Parrot knew better then to fight as he followed Wifies home.
After a few months, Wifies thought maybe it’d be best to keep Parrot in the same house. Once he inevitably found out it was truly impossible to escape, he’d lashed out unlike Wifies had seen. Like a child or a truly trapped bird. He struggled. Hurt himself.
After he was all cozy inside their joint house, he stopped pulling stunts. Now he was being changed, just as methodical as Wifies always was. Then placed near the fireplace, with a towel and blanket.
“What were you thinking?” Wifies sits next to him on the couch, lounging his arm on the couch while still looking upset. “I told you to stay inside while it rains.”
Parrot looks frustrated, “I never get sick from the rain- we used to work in the rain. Come on dude-”
“That doesn’t matter.” Wifies says it like it’s final. If he thought Parrot could get sick, then Parrot should know better then to question his superior thinking. It was always something Wifies held over his head once in a while. “I know you’re bored..”
The fireplace crackles, Parrot stares into the flame. In his head again. Thinking over who knows, Wifies began to wonder if he was thinking at all anymore. His eyes seemed dull. So quiet behind.
Wifies didn’t want to admit it was a better result than he thought. That he enjoyed the times when Parrot wasn’t actively trying to get away from him, when he wasn’t playing any tricks or planning any traps.
This is what a Parrot who didn’t have to survive or fight unnecessary battles looked like, a broken thing that could be changed. Could be fixed. Wifies just needed the world to revolve around them both for a little while longer, maybe a year or two, before the Parrot could be set out the cage.
Or they can stay, Wifies contemplates what it would be like while he cards his hands through Parrot's hair.
Parrot breaks the silence first, a startling break from the illusion that Wifies holds back a flinch from.
“Would you ever take it back? Do you ever feel any regret?” Wifies doesn’t miss a beat, a gentle tug on his hair. “No. I.. don’t think so anyway.”
“I’ve told you many times, you’re the most important thing on this server.” Wifies smiles faintly, “I’ve made sure everything you could ever ask is right at your hands. Safe adventures, your friends are here.” Even if they’re guards functioning solely on blackmail..
Wifies almost sounds annoyed, “I did all of this for you and you can’t even look..” There’s silence again. It’s heavy. Wifies takes a breath, he remembers who he was. He was Parrot’s best friend, he was the director. He was the Warden. “But that’s okay.”
“Really?” Parrot asks, quiet and sceptical. “We have all the time in the world.” Wifies can feel Parrot sink into that thought and he loses him again to the spiral of thoughts he seemed to love to get lost in these days.
“Let’s get to bed, you dry enough?” Parrot nods. “Hey tomorrow, can we go mining?” Parrot asks as he stands up, wrapping the blanket around him. Wifies is pleasantly surprised. “I was going to ask the same thing, yeah.” They head to bed, Wifies content with the idea of actual plans that parrot wants to do.
And Parrot stayed up, thinking about how his life would be as a bird. Forever in his impossible cage.
