The shrill sound of a ringtone brought Leona out of his rest with a groan. His phone vibrated on the nightstand as he rolled over and pressed his pillow against his ears. The ringing ceased and the prince started to drift back to sleep until it started up once more. Leona reached blindly for his phone and answered it with a growl.
"What?"
"Good afternoon, Prince Leona!" It was that pain in the ass, Fellow. "I hope I didn't wake you up!"
"What do you want?" Leona snarled as he pulled the pillow from his head.
"Your help is required at Ramshackle. There is… well, there's a problem." If Leona listened close enough, he could hear the sound of angry yelling in the background.
"What kind of problem?"
"Um… a certain Housewarden is about to commit murder."
"Why isn't Insect dealing with it?"
"Because he will be joining her."
"Son of a-" Leona sat up and flung the covers off. "I'm on my way."
"I beg of you to hurry."
The lion beastman ended the call and pulled his clothes off the floor with a grumble as he put them on. "What happened now?"
He left Savanaclaw and made fast tracks towards Ramshackle, he paused upon reached the doorstep when he heard yelling around the corner. Leona followed the voice and rounded the corner. His ears folded back as he spotted the dead plants in the vegetable garden, a stuttering headmage, and a very angry Ramshackle warden and vice duo. The other residents were lingering nearby, watching the shouting unfold in front of them without stopping it.
"What the-"
"Why do you ruin everything you touch?!" Yuu screeched. "What possessed you to pick up the bottle in the first place?!"
"I-I was only trying to help!"
"Help?!" Rollo shouted. "Look at what you did! The garden that we have painstakingly made is ruined. All those months of work, my work, gone in an instant because you touched something you should not have!"
"W-Who keeps something that destroy plants and vegetables so close to the thing they destroy?" Crowley tried defending himself.
"It was labeled, you incompetent twit!" Rollo's face was turning red. "It was on a shelf with other chemicals like it and you blatantly chose to ignore it!"
"Oi." Leona gained Fellow's attention. "Explain."
"Our beloved headmage," The fox beastman said with disdain in his voice. "Stopped by to see how the landscape was doing and, while we were inside for a moment, sprayed everything in the garden with a fast acting kill spray."
"What the fuck."
"That's the same thing Beastmaster said." Fellow gestured to the three of them. "As you can see from the outcome before you."
"I was only trying to help!" Leona looked back over at Crowley. "Why must you blame me for something you don't have under lock and key?"
"None of us asked for your fucking help, you miserable excuse for a headmaster!" Yuu gritted her teeth. "Do you KNOW how much that saved us on groceries? Do you enjoy making my life, our lives, fucking miserable? I have to wrangle money out of your tight wadded ass. Money, of which, I am only able to get thanks to those two. "She pointed at Swing and Fellow. "Given as you have tried multiple times to under pay me."
"…" Crowley's face hardened and Leona's eyes narrowed. "I don't like your tone, Prefect. Remember, it is I who allows you to stay here and get an education. Without me, you are helpless here and they, "He pointed to the residents. "Would not be allowed here either."
A few beats of silence passed, each of the Ramshackle residents straightened up after hearing the threat. Gidel reached for his hammer as he glared at Crowley with hatred in his eyes, Fellow's tail lashed as he bared his teeth, Swing pulled up his hood and rolled up his sleeves, flames leaked from Grim's mouth, and Skully raises his glasses to glare daggers at the fae.
"See." Yuu spoke calmly as she crossed her arms. "The thing is, that threat might've worked in the past, but news flash asshole." She showed off her left hand, which sported a beautiful golden ring with black stones in the center of it. "I'm married and I know you're not going to kick a princess out of the school, are you?"
Leona smirked as Crowley's face fell.
"W-When did you get that? How did you get that?"
"I don't have to tell you shit, bird-brained. Just know that you will be paying for what you ruined. Be it money or something else. Either way, I want you off this property."
"I own this property."
"You don't own shit. The school doesn't belong to you, you're just the headmaster here. You still answer to people higher up than you, meaning one of them has allowed you to oversee the property, but you don't own it. Besides, how will it look if you kick out a princess for your mistake?" Yuu crossed her arms. "Swing, if you could kindly escort Crowley off of this property."
"You got it, Dame." Swing walked over with a smirk on his face.
"W-Wait- Ack!" Crowley choked as the ancient fae grabbed him by his collar and begun to drag him away. "H-Homura!"
Yuu ignored him as Swing dragged him out of sight, sighing once she didn't hear his pathetic begging anymore.
"I'm not happy."
"Neither am I." Rollo picked up one of the vegetable and let it fall limply form his hand. "…This will take some time to regrow."
"No sense in doing it now. Go and cool off, Rolls."
"I should be suggesting the very same to you." He turned around and spotted Leona. "Kingscholar, what are you doing here?"
"Got called as backup in case of a murder." The prince walked over and placed his left hand on Yuu's shoulder, which sported a similar black and gold ring on it. "Thought my wife might actually do it."
"Don't tempt me." She responded and turned to face him. "I'm sorry you had to see that."
"Don't apologize." He lowered his voice with a smirk. "It was hot to see you pull the 'princess' card."
"Gross." Fellow covered Gidel's eyes. "There's a child present."
"Yeah, it's gross!" Grim shouted.
Yuu rolled her eyes with a sigh. "Uh-huh. At the moment, I want nothing more than to just collapse in bed… or vent."
Leona picked her up. "Could've said less, Herbivore." He turned on his heel and walked away. "The rest of you are on your own."
"Leona! Put me down!"
He ignored her, just like he ignored the cry of Rollo being snatched by the damn stalking hunter. In due time, the school would know about what Crowley had done and riot against him. But until then, Leona was going to spend the rest of the damn making sure his wife didn't do a damn thing.
