Work Text:

Blitz came out of his office with his nose buried in a file. “Stolas, did this client pay ahead of time?” He asked, never looking up.

“Stolas isn’t here, Sir. He had a few errands to run.” Moxxie said with an air of annoyance.

Blitz finally looked up. “Errands? What kind of errands?” Blitz was genuinely confused.

“Blitz, honey. He didn’t say. Just that he had ‘em.” Mille sounded much more sympathetic to Blitz’s confusion than Moxxie had.

Blitz didn’t like this situation. He didn’t exactly expect Stolas to tell him his every move or anything, but when Stolas snuck out or left without telling Blitz, he tended to get into trouble. He knew it was silly to worry- but he worried.

He pulled out his cellphone and called him. The call went straight to voicemail. That did very little to put his mind at ease. He had visions of Striker luring the bird away and then doing unthinkable things to him. “Stolas,” he said when prompted to leave a message. “Call me as soon as you get a chance.”

He started pacing in his office, waiting for the phone to ring. The door started to open, and he perked up excitedly, only to instantly deflate when he saw that the person entering his office was only Moxxie. “Sir, we should probably take care of this next job.”

“Fine.” Blitz groused, not at all happy with going to the mortal realm without having first heard back from Stolas. But pacing a hole into his office floor was obviously not helping anyone. “But we need to make this quick. No stupid fucking theatrics or showy shit. Just in and out.”

“May I remind you, sir. You are the one always looking to make each assassination into some theatrical masterpiece.” Moxxie said, crossing his arms in front of him in frustration.

“Oh shut up, Mox,” Blitz said. “Mills, we are heading out, let's go.” And when she came into the office as well, Blitz activated the crystal, and the trio crossed through the portal.

A mere hour later, they returned from a successful kill. “Man, that was good,” Blitz said with a satisfied sigh. “That fucker, really had it comin’, didn’t he? Did you see how hungry those poor horses looked?”

“Agreed. He definitely deserved it. All the animals seemed really hungry, to be fair. I called the authorities before we left, so someone would come out and check on the animals. Hopefully, they will be taken better care of now.”

Blitz smiled at Moxxie. “That was a great idea, Mox. Well done,” He headed into the kitchen to grab a cheese stick, but because of this, he missed Moxxie's shocked expression.

“He said I did a good job, Millie,” Moxxie said in awe.

“I heard him, baby. You did a really good job. Now let’s get the rest of this evening underway.” She winked at him, and they both suppressed a giggle.

Blitz suddenly came bounding back into the front office, where Moxxie and Millie were. “There was a note on the table,” he said, waving it around.

“There are notes everywhere, sir. Between you and Stolas, they are getting a bit... much.”

“Fuck you, don’t read our love notes, asshole. They're private.” He said, placing his hands on his hips and thrusting out his chest, to show he meant business. Granted, his notes were often more like doodles, but still, they were only meant for Stolas. But that was not the kind of note he had here.

Blitz waved the note in front of Moxxie. “Stolas is in trouble,” he said.

Moxxie took the note. “Sir, this has an address on it. What about that indicates Stolas is in danger?”

Blitz grabbed the note from him. “How can you be such a smooth brain, Moxxie? What else could it mean? He is at this address, and he needs help.”

“Sir, don’t you think you might be overreacting just a little bit?” Moxxie tried to soothe him, but instead it had the opposite effect.

Blitz pulled out his phone and quickly dialed Stolas’ number one more time. Once again, he was instantly redirected to voicemail. “That’s it. He is fucking in trouble or already dead,” he yelled as he rushed out of the door.

Before Moxxie and Millie followed, Milly turned to Moxxie. “You think he is going to realize he could use the crystal to portal there?”

“No, I do not think he will.” They both shook their heads as they followed after their boss.

Blitz was never what one would call a courteous or even safe driver. And if someone had asked Moxxie's opinion, he would have gladly said that Blitz’s driving on that particular day was especially bad. He weaved in and out of traffic, he was naturally speeding, and fishtailed into a few turns. He had gotten to the address faster than should have been possible.

The address was a house on the outskirts of Imp City. The lights were dark, and not a sound could be heard. Blitz lifted a finger to his lips, motioning to Moxxie and Millie to remain quiet.
Blitz cautiously tiptoed up the stairs of the front porch. Moxxie and Millie followed behind.

Blitz motioned for them to stop as they reached the top of the porch. “Did you guys bring weapons?” Both nodded. “Good on three, we are going to go blasting in there.”

“Hon’ what if Stolas is tied up in there?” Millie whispered.

“Ok, new plan. We barge in, but don’t start shooting until we see Stolas.” Everyone nodded in agreement. Blitz held up three fingers and started to slowly lower one after the other. When he lowered the last finger, he grabbed the door handle and barged in.

“Surprise!” came shouts from all directions.

“The fuck?” Blitz had stopped dead in his tracks. “What the hell is this?”

Stolas came up smiling,” Were you really surprised?”

“Aren’t you supposed to be in danger or something?” Blitz asked, slowly blinking while still trying to process what exactly was going on.

“Danger? Why did you think-”

“Don’t ask,” Moxxie interjected.

“I didn’t mean to worry you, darling. I simply wanted to throw you a wonderful surprise party for your birthday.”

Blitz finally started to take in the other people who were there. Loona and Octavia stood to one side, taking a video of him on their phones. Loona's friends Russ and Gigi were also there. Fizz and Ozzie stood by the table with their arms around each other's waists. Wally stood close to the gift table. A few of Blitz’s other friends, to be completely truthful, acquaintances was a more accurate description, stood around as well. Someone had even invited Dennis. Blitz briefly wondered if Stolas knew about the make-out session he had had with Dennis after their full moon fight. He really hoped fucking Dennis wasn’t going to spill the beans on that one.

“You put together a birthday party for me?” Blitz asked, still feeling very stunned.

“You once gave me the best birthday I had ever experienced.” Stolas shrugged, “I simply wanted to return the favor.”

Blitz could kiss the bird. He was so sweet. Then Blitz remembered he really could kiss that bird, as he was his bird. His incredibly sweet, gorgeous owl, who had worked very hard to put together a surprise for Blitz. Blitz grabbed Stolas by the lapels and pulled him into a kiss. “Thank you,” he whispered, his lips still on Stolas’.

He let go, enjoying the light blush on Stolas’ cheeks for a moment before he raised his hands in the air and yelled. “Let’s get this party started.” Cheers rose all around as someone somewhere turned on the music.

Blitz mingled with everyone, even Dennis. He needed to talk to Stolas about Dennis for sure. Sure, that was when they were not actually together, but unlike Chaze, Dennis was still around. He briefly found himself wondering about a certain Succubus, at a different part that had gotten all hot and heavy with his bird. He often wondered but never asked how far they had gone. Maybe, when Blitz was ready to hear the truth, he could use that conversation as a springboard.

After a while, Wally rolled out a giant cake. “It’s time for cake. Get your slice of cake, I say, I say.” He shouted like the carnie he was, making Blitz involuntarily laugh.

“First, we sing.” Stolas nearly shouted, jumping in front of the cake, making sure no one could actually cut a piece.

Blitz stood there blushing profusely as every one of the guests sang to him. He was enjoying being the center of attention, but having everyone sing to him felt a bit awkward.

Once they both had a slice of cake, Blitz grabbed Stolas’ hand and led him out to the backyard. He was delighted to see a bench and directed Stolas to sit next to him.

“I can’t believe you pulled this off. I mean, you are a horrible liar." Blitz said around a mouthful of cake.

Stolas did the little hoot laugh Blitz adored so much. “I can lie when I am motivated.”

“Sure,” Blitz said, not sounding convinced. He remembered another time Stolas lied and got away with it. A time he would rather forget. He couldn’t believe Satan had fallen for it, as Stolas had done a horrible job lying then, too. It had to be the fact that he sang his confession. That was the only thing that made sense.

As horrible as that day had been, it was the day that led them to this moment. That day had changed everything. Sometimes Blitz felt guilty because Stolas had lost so much, and he had gained so much.

He gazed lovingly up at Stolas. “Thank you for this. Seriously, I appreciate this so much.” And he really did. After his mom- well, no one had ever done anything like this for him since. It made his heart feel like it had grown an extra size or something, to know he was loved that much. He couldn't believe his luck, but he sure as hell wasn’t going to turn it away.

He leaned in and gently kissed Stolas. Stolas tasted faintly of the cake they were eating. It added a pleasant element to an already amazing experience. The fact that they had now gotten to a place in their relationship where he could kiss Stolas whenever he wanted, which was actually quite often, was wonderful. The fact that Stolas wanted to kiss him just as often was the best gift he could ever hope for. He had a hard time expressing it, but he loved his owl.

“Hey, love birds, are we opening presents or what?” Loona called from the back door.

They both smiled, lips still touching. “Your party misses you,” Stolas whispered, leaning his forehead against Blitz’s.

“Screw’ em,” Blitz whispered back. “I am a little busy right now.”

With a little hoot, Stolas pulled away, and as Blitz sighed, Stolas took his hand and said. “Come on, darling. Let’s see what wonderful things you have been given.”

Blitz had opened up so many horse-themed gifts that evening, including a horsetail butt plug, that made his girls blush. He did not inform them that he was definitely putting it to use this evening. Fizz and Ozzzy knew what they were doing when they gave that to Blitz. It was a bluish gray, very similar to Stolas’ feather color, and had a nice blue bow with silver stitching at the end. Blitz almost drooled imagining Stolas with this.

He now only had one present left to open. It was a small rectangular box. Obviously, this was not a horse. Although he couldn’t rule out a picture of a horse. It was about the right size for a framed photo.

He shook it, trying to gain a hint as to what it could be. “It is from all three of us,” Stolas said with his arms around the girls.

“Happy Birthday, Dad,” both girls said in unison.

That was all Blitz needed to know before he tore into the paper covered with balloon horses. Shreds of paper were falling everywhere, and Blitz didn’t care. The excitement of discovering what his family had gotten him was all he really cared about. He was almost disappointed when the paper fell away to reveal a plain box.

He slowly lifted the lid to see what was inside. His eyes glistened with the tears that suddenly threatened to spill. He reverently pulled out his gift. It was a very nice wooden frame that had different horses etched into it. But what made the whole thing so special was the picture inside the frame.

Stolas stood to the right of the picture with Loona to the left of him and Octavia in front of her. They were smiling at the camera. They had even dressed up in nice clothes. Stolas wore the kind of black tights that Blitz loved, along with a white dress shirt and a black jacket over it. Blitz had never seen this particular outfit and wondered if Stolas still had it and if so, how into letting Blitz peel it off of him he would be.
