Chapter Text
“Oh, look, the Captain! It is rare to see you within these hallowed halls.”
The captain of Imladris, impeccably turned out as it was his wont, matched the piercing gaze of the head librarian with one of his own, successfully suppressing the urge to engage in an eyebrow-raising competition.
“Ah, the librarian! As rarely seen in the barracks as I am indeed in the library. I am sure your office leaves you with as little leisure as does mine, master Erestor, to pursue private interests.”
His gaze rested for a moment on a large ink-stain on the other’s sleeve before returning to his face. Was there the faintest of blushes on the librarian’s lean cheeks?
“Hmpf,” Erestor said, changing his hold on the scrolls he was carrying to hide the offending piece of garment.
“So what brought you here today, then, Captain?”
“Just some old reports from before my time here. I trust these are also archived here?”
“They are. I suppose I do not need to reassure you that the administration of Imladris is very diligent in all matters of record-keeping.”
“You do not.” Glorfindel could not help his smile at the sudden realisation that the stern librarian took himself far less seriously than he appeared to.
“Good, good. Prentice Lendwen will be able to assist you.”
“Thank you, master Erestor, your help is most appreciated.”
Tilting his head in thanks Glorfindel turned into the indicated direction, not without catching something from the corner of his eye. Had that been a smile on the stern official’s face?
