Chapter Text
Peter was smart, he had his multiple degrees to back it up.
Doctor Octavius was a pain in the ass.
Mainly, after finding out SpiderMan is Peter Parker, Doc Oc decided not to kill him but still to set him back just a little bit.
By having all of his degrees revoked.
Just perfect…
Peter was now trying to get them back, and for that, he needed an internship.
"Do you have any prior experience in a scientific field, mister Parker?" The interviewer asked him, tapping his pen onto the clipboard in his hands.
Peter was sitting as straight as possible, trying to appear friendly without smiling too much and it was making it all worse because he wanted to smile but couldn't and- yeah, he was innerly panicking.
"I worked at the NewYork hall of science and had an internship at stark industries when they were still in NewYork, the time frame and my tasks there are all listed in my resume"
The interviewer looked at the papers on the clipboard and nodded. "Great, can you tell me more about the project you are currently working on in your department?"
Peter nodded, that, he could do easily. "So, our research with my team focuses on the biotechnologycal aspects of the human nervous system, specifically how the brain responds to external forces like…"
Peter talked about the study for a bit, to put it simple, it was trying to figure out how they could wake people up from coma like states without damaging their brain. A good research in his eyes, it could help people and families.
The interview went after that a lot smoother since Peter talked his nervousness out through his semi-detailed explanation of their research.
Exiting the building, Peter pulled out an old, red notebook, checking of the name of the company- Sergei Science Group (SSG). He walked quickly towards the back of the building to climb it up. He had to take a look around the city.
Peter didn't have trouble stopping the small petty crimes, and everything was going smooth. He helped an older woman with her groceries and brought a missing boy back to his dad. Some purse snatchers were now sticking onto the walls of the buildings, waiting for the NYPD to pick them up.
He had to consider giving the Police a solution to make the webs going away faster so that the arresting could go a lot smoother.
He added that to his mental check list and stoped at the edge of a skyscraper, tugging at the fabric of his suit to check for holes. Today was going well. He had two interviews that went nice and after some patrol, he was going to go to a third one.
Before he could check on the police comms, he felt something wrong and quickly swung towards the park. A loud, shrill scream was heard from behind the trees before he hid in the leafes of one.
"Let me go you sick bastard!" A young guy struggled in the hold of two men. A third one was aiming a weird looking, small gun towards the boy.
Just when the trigger was pressed, Spider-Man webbed barrel like part of the gun. "Nuh-uh buddy, we don't shoot at kids in a park, right?" He jumped down, landing between them.
The two men holding the kid quickly bolted, without any weapon, they didn't want to face Spidey. The third man however aimed the gun at the kid on the ground and fired again. The webbing had slowed whatever came out of it down but the guy still got shot in the bicep, wincing.
"Okay, what did I just say? Did you even listen?" Spidey webbed the man's arms together and pulled the gun out of his hands with a swing.
The thug tried running away but Peter webbed his ankles together next, pulling out his phone to give the police a call. "You good, kiddo?" The young boy looked around, he must've been around 14. "I think… my arms just feels… wrong though"
"Let me see" Spidey knelt down next to the kid and lifted the arm that got shot. His veins had a weird black colour and the hair in it seemed a bit thicker than the hair on the rest of his body- what the hell was that bullet?
"Ugh- Spider-Man sir? I feel… weird…. like something is growing out of me…" The kid was starting to breath more frantic.
"Uh kid- you don't look good- OH MY GOD!" The arm was buff, covered in dark and sharp hair. The kid creamed in horror. "What's that!"
Peter put his hand on the normal shoulder of the kid. "Okay, calm down, the bullet only affected your right arm so… we can solve this, yeah, just… stay calm, okay?"
The kid nodded, tears in his eyes when the black haired arm swung to hit Spiderman. Spidey jumped back just in time before getting hit. "So… it has an own mind? Okay… not cool at all"
Think Peter.
Peter bad at thinking, improvise.
Spidey jumped over the kid, towards the trees behind him and used his webs at the same time to catch the arm, tying it to the tree. The arm tugged at the webs so Peter reinforced them with more webbing just in case.
"Miter Spiderman! What's happening?" Peter sighed, dropping down from the tree to the kid, securing the bad arm just in case so the kid won't get hurt. "Don't worry, I'll find a way. Is it okay if I take a blood sample to check on it?" The kid nodded, looking at the arm the whole time, "if it's going to help…"
"I hope so! What's your name?" Peter asked the kid.
"Uh… I'm Norman"
"Okay Norman, try staying calm for me please, okay?"
Norman nodded and Spidey smiled back at him behind his mask.
Peter pulled out a small needle to take a blood sample, carefully getting the needle closer to the bad arm. "Okay… stay still… just for a second-" the arm jerked and Peter held the needle away quickly so he wouldn't hurt the kid.
"Fine, have it your way…" Peter used his free hand to keep the webbed bad arm in place while using the needle to get some blood from it. "Tough skin, huh? Why am I not surprised…" the police sirens were getting closer when Peter put the needle back into his suits pocket.
The police came running to them, with the guns raised. Peter held his hands up. "Guys, it's serious, the kid is innocent and got hit with a probably gen-modifying weapon, don't go harsh on him and keep that bad arm down"
His relationship with the cops was… complicated, like a situationship. So he didn't want to get too close to them, but he had to get sure the kid was safe.
One of the cops nodded at him and Spidey took this as his cue to leave. "I will find a cure for you kid, just hold on tight" and with that, he swung away.
Mr. Parker,
We would like to congratulate you for getting accepted into the Sergei Science Internship Program.
Your first day starts on…
Peter smiled at the mail. Yeah, he could pull his life together after all.
