Chapter Text
James storms down the hall, his jaw clenched so tight it is starting to hurt. The echos of her words, her friends' laughter echos in his mind. His arm full of rose bouquets that was meant for her. His grip tightens the more he thinks about her rejection.
His grin only returns at passing students it's forced, but no one else seems to notice. He hands out roses with as much charm as he can force. "For you, love." "you look stunning today." Are just some of the words he says. They're bitter on his tongue, but he doesn't care. If Lily didn't want them, someone else would.
He gave the second to last one to a giggling hufflepuff with a smile and a wink before carrying on his walk. He looks down at the last bouquet in his hand. They're dark red so dark they look black when not in the sun. He's opens a window and goes to drop them out. He's done with Lily. Forever.
He suddenly freezes his grip tightening on the roses. Down in the courtyard sat on a bench hunched over a book is Severus Snape looking miserable as always.
Slowly, a dangerous smile appears on James face. *Yes. This was perfect.* What better way to prove he was dome with Lily than going after her ex best friend. Her reaction would be absolutely delicious, and if no ,*when* she gets jealous, he can throw her words straight back into her face.
His fingers drum against the windowsill, his mind working quick for a plan. "Oh, Snivellus. You will take these roses." He mummers to himself and turns from the window roses still in hand. He quickly strides to the steps to get to the courtyard as quickly as possible. The closer he gets, the more a dark thrill twists in his chest. This would be perfect.
James reaches the courtyard in record time. He takes a moment to mess up his hair before he starts walking over. As he gets closer, he hides the roses behind his back.
Snape is buys scribbling in his notebook to notice at first, but when he does his usual paranoid glance around, he spots James. The scowl appears on his face immediately. *Predictable* James thinks as he gets closer.
James gives his best smile, the one that makes people trust him instantly. "Well, if it isn't my favourite Slytherin." Severus, of course, is not swayed by the smile. "What do you want, Potter?" He spits out whilst his hand twitches towards his wand.
"Can't a bloke say hello?" James asks with a laugh, but all Severus does is put his book away and stand up. "No." He says, crossing his arms.
James's smile doesn't falter, and he pulls out the roses holding the bouquet between them. "Happy valentines, Severus," He says, basically purring out Severus's name.
Severus looks between the roses and James, then scoffs. "Very funny, Potter." He says, then turns to leave. He doesn't even get a step away when James hand clamps around Severus's upper arm.
In a quick movement, James pulls Severus towards him, Severus's shoulder, hitting James's chest. James shoves the flowers into Severus's hands. "Who said I was joking Snivellus?"
