Work Header

Someday is today

Summary:

Euphrasia leaves the cloud kingdom to discover why her powers are all of a sudden messed up, only to not end up where she’d hoped.

Notes:

I thought it was kinda weird how Euphrasia was just there all of a sudden so I’m writing her arrival in the whispering wood

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Euphrasia watched the sky clear as quickly as those strange dark clouds had appeared. Probably a ninja thing she thought to herself. Deep down, part of her wanted to be a ninja. To go on adventures, bond with the other members of the team, especially people the same age as her, with the same struggles of having an elemental power. She longed to be a part of something greater than herself, that she chose to take part in. She wanted to protect all of the merged lands, not just the cloud kingdom. She wanted to leave the cloud kingdom. She’d been cooped up in the sky her whole life, the only time being able to leave was when she was injured, or for the tournament of sources, and only lasted a few days. She wanted to leave the cloud kingdom for weeks, months, years! She didn’t necessarily hate it there, but the feeling of knowing there were entire other worlds at her fingertips that held a quill instead made her restless. She’d leave one day. On a gust of wind she’d float beyond her expectations and duties, and write her own destiny.

Speaking of wind…

Euphrasia continued back into the library with the miscellaneous scrolls in her arms. No point staring at the sky when there was work to be done. She’d leave someday, but for now someday was not today.

She dropped her scrolls, stopping in place. She felt nauseous. All of a sudden, out of nowhere. Her stomach ached, her head felt heavy enough to bring her to the ground, and the stray hairs too short to fit in her braid-bun stuck to her forehead from sweat. She wanted to fall over. She wanted to puke. She tried creating a gust of wind to calm her down, only to be met by short bursts that only made the feeling worse.

“What’s… happening?” She barely choked out, each word like a nail pounded into her skull.

“Euphrasia, are you alright?” Another cloud monk asked.

“I don’t… I don’t know.” She began to lose balance, holding herself up on a nearby table. “I just- all of a sudden started to feel weird, and now…” she tried using her wind again, only to get the same result. More weirdness. More pain.

“Shall I summon a medic?”

“No, this is… this is something else.”

“If a medic cannot help you, then who can?” Suddenly, Euphrasia got an idea.

“the ninja…” she mumbled.

“What was that?”

“No time to explain, gotta run!” She began running towards the Cloud Kingdom portal gate.

“What about your scrolls?”

“Just- please handle my work while I’m gone, I’m sorry! I promise I’ll be back soon!” She called back as she neared the portal gate.

She was making her own choices. She was writing her own destiny. Someday was today. “To Ninjago!” She yelled. The gate glowed before flying open. She ran down the tunnel, the bright light of her destination growing more intense. She braced herself for the impact of being greeted by the Monastery of Spinjitzu, only to instead be met by green. Lots of green. Green leaves hanging above, green leaves falling around her, green vines littered across the walls of this strange new monastery, and green moss between the crevices of the stone flooring.

“This isn’t Ninjago…” she said to herself.

“We were just saying the same thing.” A familiar voice. Lloyd. She looked over and saw him and Arin, looking as shocked as she probably did at the moment.

“Euphrasia? What are you doing here?” Arin asked.

“I don’t… I don’t know.”
