Chapter Text
A mysterious figure loomed over a console, the screen glowing with a bluish tinge. His eyes scoured the data that it presented, looking for something, anything. And there it was. A young wolf, 16 years of age. Within him, a power, a power that had naught been seen for such a long time, outside of his own associates. The being’s face formed a grin, this was perfect. Now he could now begin…
Grey opened the door to his apartment, sighing. Today was not his day at all. Robotnik had unleashed a battalion of badniks earlier that day, the swarm of drones descending upon Central City. Grey recalled a wasp drone injuring him, his leg bleeding out on the cold, uncaring concrete floor. Of course, Team Sonic fought off the attack and Grey did receive medical attention. Even so, he despised the feeling of helplessness that he constantly felt, why was his survival dependent on others? Why couldn’t he just be responsible for himself? Why was he so pathetic?! Grey recomposed himself. After all, Team Sonic still protected everyone regardless of how strong they were. Not only that, but only 2% of mobians were born with supernatural abilities. The odds of him having this kind of power were astronomically low.
Dejectedly, Grey sat down on his bed, a single day wasn’t enough to bring him down. But then he remembered. Despite his young age, Grey lived alone, he never knew his family, or at least he couldn’t remember them. His small job at the nearby store had just barely been able too keep him afloat, with his position being given to him out of pity more than anything. Even outside of Eggman's attempt to conquer Central City, He was constantly bullied by his fellow employees. They made fun of his short height (Even though he was about 5 years younger than them) and even joked at how he never really knew his family, although not directly. Not wanting to become absorbed in his negative thoughts, he decided to lie down on his bed, taking a deep breath, and then falling asleep.
Grey awoke a few hours later. He took a walk to the kitchen and made himself some food; a small sandwich was all that he could make, given his financial circumstance. However, whilst he was eating his sad little meal, he noticed something. What could only be described as a black blob rested on the kitchen worktop. Grey put down his sandwich, intrigued by it. It was just slightly smaller than his hand, and had a shine to it. Curious, Grey reached out to touch it with his index finger. It was rather... sticky, clinging to his fur. He retracted his hand, l some of the goo was still on his finger. “The hell…?” He whispered to himself. Suddenly, more of the blobs began to materialise, clumping together in an almost humanoid shape. Grey, caught off guard, tripped backwards onto the floor.
A dark figure stood over Grey. It was tall, imposingly so. Its body looked as if it was made of triangles, with the exception of the chest, which had a shield shape. Its hands had sharp claw-like fingers, three of them on each side. The creature’s skin was pitch black, like the blobs that it formed from. Grey’s heart began to race like never before. He knew of things like this happening before, creatures coming to the planet in order to destroy it. His body froze in terror as it turned its unearthly face towards him, his eyes locking with the figure’s piercing, colourless eyes. As it moved towards him, he flinched, hyperventilating, as he knew his end was approaching. The silence yelled. Seconds passed like hours. Yet nothing came. Grey slowly turned back to the figure calmly standing there, it was… smiling? It spoke “I have a proposal for you.” The figure’s voice was deep, yet oddly soothing, as if to calm Grey down. The young wolf tentatively stood up, still slightly shaken “W-who are you?” Grey asked. The being responded after a short moment “You may refer to me as… The Lord.”
