Work Text:
life ends as it began, in tears and in blood;
the record goes on until it stutters, breaks and doesn't pick up again.
i'm sorry. i wish i could have stayed longer,
i wish things were different. they were never meant to be.
life ends bitterly and on its own terms.
no revelation is at hand.
sins are not absolved, but they no longer matter.
the play is over. the lights go out.
sing, o goddess,
except the goddess is a bullet
and the song is a toll
and the anger is not quite there.
we have nothing to live for
until we do, and the time's run out.
the ground is warmer than it should be,
the sun’s glistening. birds’re flying high.
there’s a blur at the edge of your vision – for a moment, and then it's gone.
the world keeps turning. the sky's so blue.
you cannot change the ending, orpheus.
turn around.
