Work Text:

''And see this one, this one's a real beauty.'' Harvey said, triumphantly holding a common dace in his hand. He and Jimmy were sat on the fishing dock of a small lake, with Jimmy munching on a ham sandwich Rose had packed for him. Harvey and Jimmy had recently found a bunch of old fishing gear in one of the hotels storage rooms, with Rose mumbling about how her ex-husband used to fish all the time or something. But all Harvey saw was a good way to make some extra cash.

''How? It looks like a normal fish to me.'' Jimmy said, his words muffled. His legs dangled off of the dock and dipped into the crisp water.

''Aye, but this is a common dace. These ones usually go for 30 pound each.'' Harvey tossed the fish into a bucket, filled with (significantly smaller) fish. They'd been out at the lake for nearly four hours now, and had only caught mediocre level fish.

''Who'd spend all their money on stupid fish?'' Jimmy remarked, watching the water ripple around his legs.

''Loads of people, Jim. Mainly people who own restaurants and chippys.'' Harvey took off his cap and placed it on Jimmys head. ''Don't tell your mother I forgot to bring sunscreen.'' Jimmy giggled in response, the cap falling over his eyes.

''Why do you need to catch all these fish anyways? Are you starting a taxidermied fish collection or something?'' Jimmy said, placing the metal bucket in his lap. Poking one of the fish with his fingers.

''Don't be daft. I'm gonna sell them to save up some money so we could go on a holiday or something.'' Admittedly, Harvey originally planned for him and Rose to have a weekend away as their un-official honeymoon. But Jimmy was starting to grow on him. Rose had always said they had a lot in common.

''Shame. It would match your medieval weapons collection quite nicely.'' Jimmy snickered. ''Where would we go, anyways?''

Harvey raised his eyebrows. That was a good question. Where would they even go? It's not like any of them had any dreams to travel or anything.

''Maybe India, your biological father lived there before he came to England. Could connect you with your roots a wee bit.'' Harvey scratched his chin. ''Or we could go to Ireland. That's were I grew up. You'd get to experience the magic of drunk guys stumbling up to you on busses.''

''Or we could go to Paris! Mum always said she wanted to take me to see the Eiffel Tower.'' Jimmy said. When he was younger, Rose had always told him she'd wanted to live in Paris when she was young. She wanted to be a seamstress who worked in Paris.

''It was a silly dream on mine.'' She'd always say, with a hint of melancholy in her voice. Jimmy had always wondered if being pregnant with him had stopped her from going. Or maybe it was his biological father? Jimmy never knew much about him, but he did know he never wanted him or Rose to leave England ever again.

''I suppose we could go to Paris. There's a silly amount of tourists already in Paris though.'' Harvey replied, lighting up a cigarette. ''If we did go on holiday, there'd better be no funny business with you. I don't need some foreign law on our arse.'' He muttered, inhaling some smoke from the cig.

''I wouldn't do anything! When was the last time I did something wrong?'' Jimmy said, defensiveness filling his voice.

''Last week on Monday. You thought it'd be funny to try and douse my coffee with whiskey.'' Harvey said, eyebrows raised at Jimmy. Jimmy grumbled under his breath in response.

''I wouldn't do anything if we were on holiday.'' Jimmy declared. Harvey took a drag, blowing the smoke into the dusk. ''Didn't Mum tell you to stop smoking?'' Jimmy said, a smirk on his face.

''Don't tell her. This is my last one and then I'm done.'' Harvey said. He put the fag out on the dock before starting to pack up the fishing supplies. ''Take the bucket to the car and hold it while we head home, Jim.''

Jimmy obeyed, carefully picking up the bucket and taking it to the car. When Harvey arrived, Jimmy was sat in the front seat, bucket held safely in his arms. Harvey entered the car and put his keys in the ignition.

''Good lad.''
