Work Text:
A world without Sylus is a world you never want to live in.
You made that conclusion many moons ago, and even though the ebb and flow of time changes everything it encounters, your soul is unwilling to let go of this fact. It haunts your nights and brightens your days, but its relentlessness is also insufferable. Like suffocation you've become accustomed to, a hold you've treated like a wishful embrace.
Your pretty little heart constantly seeks the company of a man occupied by messes he did not create, and it makes you miss him more than anything.
The morning meets your tired eyes and takes your beloved’s place, brightening your day for you. Your brain has the audacity to remember how much he hates the sun, and your equally lovestruck heart dreams of ways you’d tease him about it. The morning fails to take his place completely, so you’re left to miss him even more.
As you blink away sleep, your phone blares a notification. You don’t think much of it when you go to check, for you’re used to hoping that spam emails and junk texts were instead his name. But the ebb and flow of time truly does change everything it encounters because your hopes are finally answered.
BOSS-MAN <3 (Sy): good morning, beloved.
BOSS-MAN <3 (Sy): i'm at your door.
"What?" barely comes out of your mouth before you hear your doorbell ring. His ability to know your every want without you having to say it will always catch your lovesick heart by surprise. You place a hand on your face to wipe every trace of your sleepiness before you rush to open your front door.
You check the peephole, and the familiar smirk of the most annoyingly lovable man you've ever met meets your sight. His sunglasses, as expensive as they are, don’t hide the excitement in his eyes well. His black shirt, a simple thing you’d given him because you thought it would highlight the muscles of his arms well, does its job excellently.
He’s here, you say in your head over and over again. I don’t have to miss him today.
"Sylus!" you hiss as you hold the door open for him. "I didn’t even have time to prepare myself!"
He eyes your form, and you swallow a groan as you realize you're wearing the least flattering outfit he’s probably ever laid his eyes on. If he's judging you for it, however, he’s doing a great job masking it using the sunglasses and the red hearts of his eyes. "You’re always so gorgeous, sweetie,” he compliments, placing a tender kiss on your forehead.
“It’s bad to lie, Sylus,” you say with the intention of being defiant, but the kiss has a hold on you unlike anything you were expecting, and so it comes out as a weak whisper.
“It’s even worse to deny the truth.” Sylus moves closer, tucking a stray strand behind your ear even if it is a futile effort with the bed of hair sticking about on your head. In this distance, you can see the hearts on his eyes bolden, but you also see the rapid blinks he attempts to hide underneath those sunglasses. His willingness to endure some pain just to see you.
“Oh, come in! I don’t want you getting hurt!”
He immediately does so, and courtesy to the millions of times he's visited your apartment before, he knows his way around. He sits on a chair at your dinner table and places a large bag next to your leftover bowls of food. The smell of breakfast fills the air immediately, and you look to see that he’s brought you a whole buffet.
In courtesy to how much he's visited and learned all of you, he knows exactly how to make you happy.
"Breakfast," he felt the need to clarify even though you're already salivating. "I passed by a lovely restaurant on the way here and thought you’d want the replenishment."
Wedding bells ring in your head as you swoon. It's peculiar how Sylus makes being in love feel less like suffocation and more like home. "You didn't have to."
"I wanted to."
Nobody dares to argue against Sylus’s wishes, except you apparently. As you take a seat across from him, you exclaim, "You must be so busy! A-and the sun bothered you, along with my unruly outfit-”
But you forget that Sylus can disarm you just the same. "Hm. I guess I haven't made it clear that I’m never too busy for you, nor can you bother me in any way."
"Really?” you question. You’re on a roll with doing things nobody dares to do with the big bad leader of Onychinus. "It’s not like the asses in the N109 Zone could be kicked overnight or on the days I need you.”
Sylus pouts, and seeing such a revered man fall into putty in your sight does wonders to you. The butterflies are wild today, and so is your heart. "I thought you had more confidence in me."
A futile argument escapes your lips. "When did I give you that indication?"
"Since the day you told me you love me."
Love. The force that haunts your heart like a looming ghost. Love, the same force that Sylus has turned into a haven for every part of you. Love, the same force that allowed you to look past the rough exterior of the big bad leader of Onychinus and gave you a glimpse of a future more beautiful than your past.
A world with him. A life with his love. A future of unconditional devotion.
And maybe a million more free breakfasts.
"The dish is getting impatient," your beloved quips, and you realize that your spoonful of fried rice has hovered near your mouth, waiting to be eaten. You quickly eat the rice, but the satisfied smile on Sylus’s face is unrelenting.
You’re led to a new conclusion that day: love is not hard, not with a man like Sylus, even when the smug smile on his face ignites a fire in your heart.
