Work Text:
that night feels kinda quiet in the dorm. everyone’s busy doing their own thing—some are showering, some are still laughing out loud in the living room, others are glued to their phones, scrolling through fans’ comments about their latest video.
ryo’s sitting on his bed, phone in hand, the screen still paused on a clip from that interview earlier.
“who came to mind as soon as you caught the fish?”
and sakuya, so casually, with that way-too-honest smile, answers:
“ryo.”
ryo’s watched that part more than five times. not because he didn’t hear it clearly. if anything, it’s because he heard it way too clearly.
“…what does he even mean,” he mutters under his breath.
the door creaks open.
“ryo?”
that voice. of course.
ryo immediately looks up. sakuya’s standing there, hair a little messy—probably just got back or was messing around with the others.
“can i come in?”
“this is our room,” ryo replies a bit too fast, instantly regretting it because he sounds way too defensive.
sakuya lets out a soft laugh, then steps in and closes the door behind him. he casually walks over to ryo’s bed and sits down right next to him without asking—like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
silence.
ryo’s still holding his phone, but he doesn’t dare speak first.
sakuya glances at the screen.
“you’re watching that again?”
“…so what, let me be, i look good there,” ryo fumbles, cheeks turning red after getting caught.
“please, you’re literally replaying my part.”
ryo immediately locks his phone.
“that’s just coincidence.”
“oh yeah? five times is a coincidence now?”
ryo snaps his head toward him, eyes wide. “you were counting?”
“just happened to notice,” sakuya smiles, way too relaxed. almost suspiciously relaxed.
another silence. this one heavier.
ryo takes a quiet breath, then finally speaks, his voice softer than usual.
“…why were you thinking about me?”
sakuya doesn’t answer right away.
instead, he shifts a little, supporting himself with one hand on the bed, turning fully toward ryo.
“you really wanna know?”
“of course,” ryo says quickly, but still quiet. “it’s weird, you know. out of everyone…”
“weird, huh?” sakuya cuts in gently.
ryo pauses. “…yeah.”
sakuya nods slowly, like he gets it.
“i thought it was weird at first too.”
ryo turns to him again. “huh?”
“yeah,” sakuya chuckles softly. “i was fishing, right? everyone’s focused on their lines, the water… but i kept thinking about you.”
“why…” ryo looks even more confused.
“because you weren’t there.”
the answer is way too simple. and somehow, that makes it harder for ryo to respond.
“i remember you said you wanted to come,” sakuya continues, his voice softer now.
ryo can feel his cheeks heating up.
“so when i was sitting there, waiting for a fish… i kept thinking, ‘if ryo were here, he’d probably enjoy this more than me.’”
silence.
“and for some reason… i really wanted to catch that fish for you.”
ryo looks down a little, fingers fiddling with the edge of his blanket.
“…that’s it?”
“no.”
ryo looks up again instantly.
sakuya’s closer now. just a few inches apart.
“i was thinking about you because…” sakuya pauses, like he’s choosing his words. “i think about you a lot, actually.”
ryo’s heart starts racing.
“what… what does that mean,” he whispers.
sakuya smiles a little—not teasing this time, just warm.
“you really don’t know?”
ryo slowly shakes his head.
“i thought you were more perceptive,” sakuya laughs softly.
“i am,” ryo protests quietly. “you’re just confusing.”
sakuya goes quiet for a second, then leans in slowly. ryo stiffens immediately.
sakuya tilts his head, eyes flicking to ryo’s lips, then back to his eyes, tracing that soft triangle—before pressing a gentle kiss to his lips, making ryo’s eyes fall shut on instinct.
a few seconds pass before sakuya pulls away.
“do i still need to explain?”
ryo shakes his head quickly, face completely red now.
“no…”
there’s a pause again, but this time it feels different. softer.
sakuya’s still holding ryo’s hand.
“so…” he starts, a hint of hesitation in his voice now. “do you… want this?”
“want what,” ryo plays dumb, but he can’t hide the small smile tugging at his lips.
“this,” sakuya lifts their intertwined hands. “us.”
ryo stays quiet for a moment.
then he grins.
“…i’ve been waiting for you to say that.”
“so?”
ryo leans in closer, tugging lightly at the collar of sakuya’s hoodie.
“yeah. i do.”
sakuya’s face immediately breaks into the widest smile.
“really?”
“really.”
“no regrets?”
“not yet.”
“hey—”
ryo lets out a soft laugh, then—
this time, he leans in first.
the kiss feels the same—gentle, slow—but now there’s more certainty behind it.
ryo wraps his arms around sakuya’s neck, and sakuya shifts, guiding ryo down beneath him, hands holding firmly onto ryo’s waist as the kiss deepens, a quiet, soft sound slipping from ryo between breaths.
outside, the other members’ voices are still faintly heard.
but inside that room, everything feels calm.
