J watches you move around the kitchen at the home you share with Pope.
Pope stands off to the side, arms crossed and watching you.
Craig and Deran banter beside J on your couch as they play cards.
J’s eyes go from you who is talking away to Pope, who doesn’t say or respond in any way but you speak as if he did.
“How do they do that?”
“Do what?” Craig mumbles, eyes skimming across his cards.
“Pope doesn’t say anything to Y/N and yet, she responds like he did.”
Deran shrugs, “They’ve always been like that. She does most of the talking and Pope’s just there silent and staring at her and shit.”
“She read minds or somethin’?” J asks as he takes a swig from his beer bottle.
Deran snorts, “Nah, her and Pope have just been together that long. They just get each other.”
“-what do you think?” J’s attention goes back to you and his uncle.
Pope continues to stand and silently stare at you. You hum and nod, “Yup. You’re right. Probably too much.”
A hint of a smile appears on Pope’s lips as you put the seasoning container you were holding back into your cabinet.
“Don’t think too much about it, kid,” Craig says, nudging his nephew, “We tried to figure it out years ago, but never did. It’s just that special connection they have.”
“Yeah. Sure,” the teenager mumbles in reply, his attention solely on you and his uncle. He can’t help but find that special connection so…fascinating.
