Saps holds open the door for Flux, as they enter the restaurant, one of the best in Aculon, with open terrace dining.
The sun has only set, the golden light still visible over the horizon. Along with the fairy lights and candles across the restaurant, the mood is cozy and romantic.
Perfect, Saps thinks as he leads them to their table, one set right next to the balcony, decorated with hanging pots, the edge filled with vibrant flowers, filling the corner with their sweet scent.
Saps rushes ahead a little bit to pull the chair out for Flux, who only directs an exasperated look at him, and sits down.
"So, are you going to tell me why you spent a month's worth of your salary to treat me to dinner? What's the special occasion Saps," Flux looks at Saps and smirks.
Saps flushes, the red spreading over his neck to his ears, the blush sits beautifully on his cheeks under the soft, warm lighting.
"What, I can't even treat my best-est friend ever, after he's been stressed the whole week," Saps replies, and it's true.
Aculon has received more delegates this month than the last year combined, and Flux as a member of the royalty has his obligations with attending meetings, dinners and hosting parties to welcome them properly.
"Ugh, I wish we could ban any more delegates from any nation from entering our country for at least a year," He groans into his hands.
"The only thing that kept me from stabbing half of them was Cynikka. She threatened to hide all the stuff from my vanity if I didn't smile and nod at them all day," he leans back in his chair, head thrown back, like looking up to the heavens for strength.
Saps hums in sympathy.
"That's why I brought you here, so we can relax. No more stupid delegates or mind numbing meetings here," Saps says and holds up his glass of water, tipping it to Flux in a toast.
Flux chuckles and returns the gesture.
They order their food and wine and spend the rest of the evening having fun, years of friendship making even the silence just as comforting.
The night passes peacefully, and they finish their drinks with leisure, Flux looking out at the many stars that sparkle in the night sky.
"Hey Flux?" Saps calls out for him in a small voice, eyes transfixed on Flux, and the many stars reflected in his eyes.
"Yeah," Flux says just as quietly.
"I love you," Saps says. He hadn't meant to say that out loud, but the confession brings a sense of ease in his chest, to finally have said those three words out loud that he's been holding in his heart for many years now.
It was supposed to be a relief.
But Flux's shoulders tense and the smile falls off his face completely.
He stares at Saps with eyes that suddenly go hard.
"What," he asks back, voice tense in a way it hasn't been around Saps in so long.
Saps reels back from his reaction, taken back as he did not expect such a harsh reaction from Flux.
"Tell me you didn't mean that," Flux's voice sounds so incredibly broken in that moment, Saps is left not knowing what to do.
Flux's eyes glisten with tears and- wait is he crying?
"Tell me that isn't true," Flux says, his voice firm but his face is on the verge of breaking down, tears threatening to fall from his eyes.
"Wha- No, Flux , I meant that with my whole heart. I love you, truly, I can't imagine my life without you, you mean so much to me Flux," Saps says with desperation, and reaches over to take Flux's hand, but the black haired man is much faster as he practically jumps out of seat and rushes out without stopping.
"Flux! Stop, please," but his words have no effect as Flux doesn't even look back or falters in his steps, exiting the restaurant with speed, leaving Saps behind in a rush of red wine and the sweet smell of roses.
"Shit, fuck, I fucked up," is all Saps can say as he rests his head on the table, barely able to hold back his own tears.
