Chapter Text
…
It was supposed to be yet another ordinary day. Ceres was always the same - chaotic, slightly aggressive, mischievous and just some.. Little, dumb gremlin! That’s how it always was!. That’s how it’s supposed to be. There weren’t supposed to be any changes whatsoever. Just a few minutes ago, Ceres was teasing Pluto about his name and added an N to it at the end. It was fun! Pluto’s angry face and those eyes looking away in annoyance brought the small guy satisfaction! It’s all so simple.
Charon is also such a great friend and always explains everything! Talking still seemed like a new concept. Like he never EVER spoke before!. And then some tiny thing arrived to their belt. It was so frantic and panicky, and so became everyone else after what she said. Something about someone being lost..
Ceres had no interest in that, but if it meant staying with everyone else, then why not? They all, and especially Pluto seemed so off.. But hey, maybe that meant more fun! More mischief! More..
..Huh.? That wide, borderline maniacal grin Ceres always had on his little face subconsciously disappeared. And instead of the little wildness his slightly bulging eyes had (i imagine that when they’re like tiny and with lines around them and shaking that could be it for him /ooc) was replaced with.. Shock. That’s not right. But so is what laid before his eyes. Something big and covered in distinct patches underneath the ice.. What in the universe are those? They look.. Familiar..
..No. It shouldn’t be familiar. Ceres was always alone before this. That’s the story he believed, at least.
Before meeting Pluto and Charon, for whom he felt closeness and unusual friendliness, Ceres was all alone in the Asteroid Belt, wrecking chaos to those that happened to be unlucky enough to pass by. He never questioned why or if there was anything else, why should he? There’s no point in worrying about that! Truly, no.. Point.. But then, why are these weird things happening in his core?.
Everything around feels like background noise, as Ceres stares at the thing before him with pure confusion. He can’t even describe what it is that makes everything around pulsate so much. It almost felt like his mind got less..
..Hm? “Everyone on me! We need to take him back to his orbit.” - Pluto exclaimed.. Oh. Well yeah, obviously this thing doesn’t belong here. It’s too.. Weird. Ceres doesn’t like it. And so, decides to help others return it back, forcing the grin back to his face. See, that’s more like it! They all just do this together, even with.. Failure. It- he didn’t move. And upon applying the force of gravity the tiny dwarf planet possesses, he felt it more clearly. Too clear, even. Some abnormal activity within those layers of ice. The more Ceres thought about it, the more..
..He can think properly. It’s not the primordial queues of conclusions of a, a-.. an animal. Not just those very simplified thoughts of throwing or not throwing an asteroid at a passerby. Actual, deep thoughts. What is this planet before him? What are those patches? How does he know what these definitions mean? Or rather.. Remember what they mean.
Yes, that must be it!. Memories. Those that were buried deep within Ceres’ twisted and fogged mind. He keeps staring at the planet, as this previously unfamiliar stuff slowly floods in. He’s too stunned by- by what his own nonexistent brain does. These seem to come from the very beginning.. When his puny form came into existence.
Coldness. Loneliness. Asteroids scattered around. Quiet weeping of a desperate child, who yearned for someone. Anyone.. And then, something came. Something approached that child and enveloped it in its embrace. It was cold and sharp, but.. Weirdly comforting. This feeling of something enveloping you whole and allowing you to drown in it. That same thing is in front of Ceres. Almost as if feeling his thoughts, that same thing- that entity revealed its energy right behind the dwarf planet, letting him relive the memory that creeped up from the abyssal depths of his mind. Its touch felt like gentle whispers, yet also like straightforward commands. What you see is a mistake. They’re all deceived by it. Drown it in chaos. Destroy it. Destroy everything.
..Yes, that’s what its name is.. Chaos.. Disorder.. Destruction..
..Entropy.
And remembering that word made the dwarf planet.. Smile. It felt as if something he cherished so deeply had returned. Ceres has received this command, and will execute it. Drown it in chaos. Destroy it. This made him break out in creepy and raspy, yet determined giggles that almost sounded like wheezing.
Destroy everything.
Ceres kept staring for.. Universe knows how long, with a smile that seemed the same from the outside, but was hiding the mess that brewed in his core. He kept a distance for some time, trying to get used to operating differently.. Not on instinct, but on his mind. Pluto and Charon were talking about something, sounding angry at each other. Though, Ceres couldn’t care less. He needed to see what was going on in that being, that planet. “Earth”, was it?. What a weird name. The dwarf planet approached slightly and it was enough to see all of these amusing structures closely. These don’t look natural.. Like they were created by something else. By someone else..
..But it was so magnificent.. Ceres couldn’t help but break into these little gasps and chuckles, absolutely drowning in amusement. They’re all so different.. These metal pillars rising from the surface.. Smaller, weirder looking ones, the area around which seemed to go into the water.. Even stranger pyramids sitting right on that grainy-looking ground.. It was all so chaotic, yet so structured.. It was absolutely filled with..
“..En.. T-Tro.. Pyyy..” - Ceres muttered to himself, getting a weird feeling from finally saying this word out loud. Determination? Desire? Either way, something about this form of entropy screamed “wrong.” It feeds off the planet and, from the sightings of some unfinished-looking structures, only wishes to expand more and more. That’s why he has to destroy it. Destroy it. Destroy everything.
This made him break out in giggles again, prepared to take action. Ceres used his gravity force to catch a pair of big asteroids. These are almost the size of him, and judging that the being in front of him is much, much bigger, this should be just good enough to have an impact. Ceres took aim and hurled it with all his strength at the planet. But it seems like Pluto was watching him.. “No! Stop!” - he shouted, rushing over to the course of the two asteroids to stop them. But can he? Ceres never saw Pluto actually fight outside of their game, the title of which he couldn’t memorize. It’s so strange how much the dwarf planet can analyze everything around now..
But he was right. Pluto could only hold these asteroids close to his surface for a few seconds, before they still took course towards Earth aand.. They struck! Yes! It didn’t hit the zones Ceres was aiming for, but those asteroids still hit the surface one after another, causing these ringing explosions, as the thick layer of ice cracked in those spots. These sounds felt like music to his ears, as he chuckled with.. No, not with basic mischief. Something deeper and much more.. Serious. Yet, it was still a laugh. “Eentropyyyyyy!!” - Ceres exclaimed in that still-laughing manner.
But then, someone else joined in. “Ceres, what are you doing?? That’s the Earth!” - Charon suddenly exclaimed, approaching. Is she really being against him right now? “I don’t think he’s listenin’!” - Pluto said. And he would be right. Ceres prepared another batch of asteroids to be thrown at the planet, more determined than ever and ready to complete the fateful command. Drown it in chaos. He surely will.. But before he could..
..Charon applied gravity in a way that made the dwarf planet lose focus of the asteroids and feel pushed. That grin of his vanished, replaced with a shocked frown. Why is she interfering? “Ceres. You’re our friend, and he’s our friend too!” ..This isn’t about friendship. “Moooooove!.” - Ceres shot back. This is about him completing the sole purpose of his existence. He must destroy that form of entropy. “What? I’m not going to-” No matter the cost. Destroy it. Destroy everything.
Charon received that big asteroid from the batch that Ceres got focused on right to her face. “AGH!.” The blow itself even made her fly back. “Charon!!” - Pluto appeared from the back and practically catched her. But Ceres couldn’t care less about what they were then murmuring and got about a dozen of asteroids in his gravitational grasp. That mass even looks bigger than himself. The two could only watch in horror, as Ceres prepared to strike. “Back.. Tooo.. NOTHING!” And the mass flew right at Earth. Ceres laughed in his usual manner that now seemed like something else entirely. Those rocks were just about to go closer, until..
..Really? Someone else joins in to be against him? And no one else than.. Luna. Earth’s moon. It makes him wonder where they were before. Oh well. They catched the asteroids to their orbit. “Hey, Pluto. Thanks for protecting my planet. I’ll take it from here.” The soft smile they had switched to an angry expression, one that Ceres remembered from their last encounter. Then, the moon fired these rocks back at the dwarf planet, but it seemed to only give him more thrill, as Ceres laughed, almost mockingly and easily dodged every single one of them, before dashing to the side. “Get back here!” - Luna shouted, going after him.
A bit later, Pluto left Charon to recover after that nasty hit and joined their little battle. Ceres kept throwing asteroids at the Earth, Luna was reflecting them and firing back, so was Pluto, but slightly weaker. Ceres’ giggles intensified as it kept on going, with him having some successful hits, but with small asteroids that didn’t hit any heavily.. Corrupted areas. Despite all of this, the looping of their actions made Ceres feel something entirely different brewed in his core.. Something so strange and unfamiliar, yet it made his mantle boil. A fusion of irritation, impatience and exhaustion.. Rage.
Ceres felt himself getting angrier by the minute, and even his eyes couldn’t hide it anymore. The dwarf planet kept grinning, but his otherwise expression and tone told a different story. Soon, some of his laughs turned into.. Screams. Just shouts that seemed to come from the very core. Or a mix of both. Each of them felt like a tiny particle of what's left of his sanity slipping away. He kept getting more and more ferocious with his hits, dodging everything with perfection. Luna kept rejecting more and more asteroids.. AaaAAUGH! Why are they protecting those.. Those parasites? They will just keep growing and then leave to corrupt another celestial body!. That’s enough.
Suddenly, Ceres changed directions and began spinning around the Earth with a couple of asteroids, attracting more and more of them into some sort of ring. It resulted in a “battlefield” forming around all four objects.
What you see is a mistake. They’re all deceived by it. Drown it in chaos.
As the battle kept going, you could almost see a ring forming around Earth, with how much force Ceres puts into circling the planet, trying to get him from all the angles. He keeps shining that wide, psychotic grin that seems like a rather usual accessory to the dwarf planet’s face. Except.. His eyes don’t have any mischief, thrill or fun anymore. Just anger. Boiling anger, that intensifies by the second.
“More entropy! More! MORE!!!” - Ceres screams, shooting those asteroids maniacally, yet Luna and, occasionally, Pluto keep reflecting the majority of them, so that only small ones get through and get burnt by the atmosphere. After Ceres dodged yet another reflected rock, Luna seemed to try and go after him again. “Hey! Get back here!” - Luna shouted, struggling to keep up with the dwarf planet’s speed. If you struggle, just stop. Stop defending him, stardammit. “GAAH! Hahahahaha! GaaAAAAAUGH!!” - Ceres’ descent into even further madness can be heard when his laughter transitions into a scream. After some time, that abnormal activity on Earth intensified. Luna and Pluto, being the defense line, could clearly feel it, but so could Ceres, despite being forced to a distance.
This only strengthens his resolve to destroy it. Whatever is in there should NOT exist. He needed to use one form of entropy to cleanse the wrong, parasitic one. Yes, they’re.. Parasites. Luna, of all bodies, should know it. Yet, they’re the fiercest defender. Ceres keeps grinning, with his eyes sometimes masking the absolute chaos and rage boiling in his core. The dwarf planet also felt something else from time to time.. More memories. They seem to be skipping a certain part, but then, focusing on two unknown celestial bodies.. Rocky planets, to be exact. They were warm. Familiar. Curious. Ambitious. Not knowing anything about entropy and how it controls everything around. Those memories also created something else growing in him, that seemed like a tiny seed of.. Sorrow.
The battle was ongoing after what seemed like a while. Ceres kept flawlessly dodging all the reflected asteroids, yet it doesn’t make him feel any better. Only more angry. Sometimes, Luna and Pluto were screaming some motivational stuff about protecting that- that giant field of parasites. “Luna, he’s too fast for us!” - Pluto exclaimed. Well, Ceres is the fastest dwarf planet (i googled it, Ceres' speed is almost 4 times higher that of Pluto, whos the fastest of transneptunian dwarves /ooc), so it’s about right. Huh, he remembered that fact. “My speed is 1 km/s. And you?” No wonder Luna couldn’t catch up. “About 4.7 but he’s much faster than us! I wonder how fast he..”
“17.8 km/s. Ugh..” - a female voice said, with pain in her voice. Charon, again. She knows that about Ceres, even though the dwarf planet himself didn’t. Or didn’t remember at least. Why doesn’t she get it? Why does she have to be against him?.. Why won’t she at least try to understand? Or ask about why is he doing this? Why is she betraying him?.. ..Betrayal.. It feels so..
..No. Get yourself together. Destroy it. Ceres dashed to the side and threw an asteroid from behind himself, giving it more speed and momentum, yet Luna still deflected it by throwing a bunch of smaller rocks to stop it. The care in the moon’s eyes for their planet disgusted him. How could you care for something like that? And strangely, that made Ceres remember a bit more about.. Those two. They cared for each other in a similar way, despite it seeming like they had very different perspectives on the universe. They were even- concerned about him.. No, rather concerned about him. And all three of them talked.. They talked about entropy itself. How it warps everything that exists and how it will return it all into nothing..
..Stop. Stop remembering all of that and focus on your purpose. This is your ONLY purpose, Ceres. You must listen. Drown it in chaos. Destroy it. Destroy everything. The dwarf planet has unimaginable stamina and devotion to keep throwing these asteroids failure after failure. But it also seems like the more asteroids he throws, the more shards of his broken mind keep scattering elsewhere. Yet, contradictingly enough, Ceres felt like it was easier to speak, about entropy, that is, and move his mouth. So, he will use it.
They all must know what Entropy is. They must.
They will all know.
