Every promise has an exception

Summary:

Tadano Hitohito has always been a too-considerate person, always caring for his friends and most of all, his lovely girlfriend, Komi. He’s made a vow to himself and Manbagi that he would make Komi happy no matter what.

And yet, the world itself is never fair at the first place, and Tadano had no choice but to break that promise at the price of his life.

Or: Tadano suffers from the side effects of an accident and it’s slowly killing him from the inside.

Notes:

Hey everyone!! This is my first fic ever so im pretty nervous. Due to exams I’ve only managed to squeeze out one chapter, more will be added later on! That’s all though, I hope you all enjoy reading! (This fic has been proofread)

Chapter 1: Life flashes through your eyes, or is it just your lover instead?

Chapter Text

“Be careful on your way back.”

That’s what Komi would always say before saying goodbye to Tadano.

And of course, he would say thanks and give a warm smile that says “you can count on me”, accompanied with a small wave.

Because, being her boyfriend, how could he refuse her requests? He loves Komi, and so does she, so he has to make her happy, just like Manbagi said to him. To make her feel happy. To make her feel like she deserves him.

There’s no doubt Tadano’s always been the person to prioritize the people he loves over him, especially his family and most of all, Komi. He hates to see people worrying for him, so he would coat their concerns with a few reassuring words to help them feel better. That’s just who he is, really.

But despite all of those carefully prepared precautions, his promises still couldn’t be kept with complete certainty.

Nobody knows what lies ahead, the inevitable fate no one could stop. Not even Komi, the so-called “goddess” or Tadano himself.

————

It’s the last year of High school.

Komi had to leave school later than usual because of paperworks, since being class representative is never easy for anyone to handle, even for Tadano, who one got snowed under with work multiple times and ended up having Nene to help him finish up the work. Just remembering it makes Komi give a slight chuckle, fingers on her lips as her face faintly blushes.

Tadano isn’t with her this time, he told her he had to leave early because his sister Hitomi was ill and he had to look after her. Of course, everyone wanted to help Komi with the paperworks, but she still insisted on doing it on her own, which made everyone blush in awe and even made Yamai Ren burst into tears (the reason still remains unknown) and started praising her like a goddess is in her presence. When Tadano complimented how much she had grown up since they first met, which was in their first year, she couldn’t help but blush and clumsily hide her face under the stack of paper she was holding. That was all it took for her to finish everything in a hitch.

When she made her way to the school gate, a phone notification caught her attention. It’s from Rumiko Manbagi, her best friend.

Ignoring her tiredness, she quickly turned on the phone.

“Heyyyy Shoko, are you free? I wanna go eat somewhere, i’m sooo bored!”

“I just finished my paperwork, so I would love to. Where do you want to go?”

“There’s this new ramen shop that opened near our school, why don’t we go there? the reviews look promising!”

Whilst talking to Rumiko, Komi never realized that she’s had been gradually walking towards the road, too busy tapping her fingers onto the silver screen,

And worst of all, there’s also a car driving towards her. approaching at speeds too fast to be normal.

It wasn’t until Komi turned to her left did she realise the situation she’s in. But it was too late. Far too late.

She was going to get hit-

“KOMI!!!”

Suddenly, a too-familiar voice echoed through the sky, and Komi felt a rough push on her back, strong enough to make her collide to the other side of the road along with her bag she’s carrying. She let out a faint yelp out of pain, body skidded sideways to the read, painful to the skin.

And all she could hear was the deafening sounds of screeching and a dull thud across the cement road. And everything else was too painful for her to remember.
