The Beat Accelerates, Let’s do Both the Good and Bad

Summary:

“...And you still didn’t give me an actual answer,” Tomoro reminds him, ignoring Raito’s jab.

“Well, maybe don’t make me respond to such an embarrassing question, moron! Especially when the answer is obvious!” Raito splutters, his face beet red again.

Tomoro and Raito are left alone for a while. Tomoro tries to take the initiative.

Notes:

Hiiii Hello. I'm currently in agony over the fact that Raito just up and left at the first sign of love and happiness at the end of the Tactics arc, killing all of my serious fic plans for now until we get more information about his current status. This fic felt vague and removed from canon enough that i felt was fine to work on. As with my previous fic, this is a work based on my current interpretation of their personalities, so I ask that you forgive me if there will be anything that makes this work inconsistent in the future orz. (25 EPs released at the time of writing this.)

This also plays in the same continuity as my previous fic, "Pavlovian Response". You don't need to read it to get what's going on in this fic, but it makes a callback referring to it. And, same disclaimer as my previous fic, this plays like 2 years after canon, because I simply cannot imagine TomoRai getting together that fast, so I hope their behavior makes sense keeping that context in mind.

CW: Regarding the dubcon in the tags, nothing serious happens before Raito actually gives his verbal consent (the best he can), but Tomoro does have thoughts about just diving straight in without checking in with Raito first, so please be careful.

Title comes from the song "Animal" by Deco*27.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

"W—Wait!”

“Hmm..?” Tomoro angles his head a bit and moves away from Raito’s neck to get a better look at his genius boyfriend.

“What…what are you doing?” Raito’s voice shrieks.

“I wanted to give you a kiss mark,” Tomoro flatly states.

Tomoro can practically feel Raito’s skin heating up. Raito takes a deep breath.

“...And your hand…?” Raito asks.

“I guess it is under your shirt,” Tomoro replies, feeling his tummy some more after Raito reminds him so kindly. He could feel how fit it was.

“What the hell got into you?!!” Raito almost screams.

Tomoro smiles. “I mean, you haven’t kicked me in any way yet, so I figured it was fine, Raito.”

Raito averts his eyes from Tomoro, biting his lip all the while. His face was tomato red. See, whenever Raito makes that kind of face, something… uncomfortable rises up within Tomoro. It’s like he loses all common sense and wants to push Raito down to the ground at that moment, no matter whether they were alone or in front of their friends, but he was able to hold himself back every time, for Raito’s sake. He couldn’t tell whether or not Raito was comfortable with his numerous advances, and while his boyfriend had more or less reassured (in his own way) that it was fine, they didn’t really go any farther than mouth-to-mouth kisses, handholding, and hugging in the 8 months they have been dating.

Raito apparently had his first kiss before they were dating. Tomoro didn’t think much of it, really, and it makes sense too, with the way Raito used to be, and after all, he was good looking as well, so there was no wonder he was popular among his peers, but it made him ponder. If Tomoro couldn’t be Raito’s first mouth-to-mouth kiss, he wants to be Raito’s first mouth-to-neck kiss, or perhaps even his first tongue-to-tongue kiss. He wants to be his first in every other aspect that Raito didn’t experience yet, as well. Tomoro thinks it’s only fair, because he’s even less experienced than Raito is.

They were left alone for a while now, after all, and Tomoro did just want to simply hug him while they were laying on the couch, he swears. He truly didn’t have any ulterior motive behind it. But when he felt Raito’s heartbeat quickening the moment he tightened the hug, seeing Raito’s face do that lethal flush-and-averting-eyes combo, and the previously said fact that they were left alone for a while, somehow flipped a switch in Tomoro’s mind.

He just thought he could test the waters some more. If it really went too far, then he just had to take one of Raito’s punches instead. Tomoro thinks it’s well worth the risk.

“Remember? You said that if I forced you into anything, you’d punch me faster than I could react,” Tomoro moves his finger to boop Raito’s nose in hopes to ease the situation up a little.

Raito’s eyes try to meet Tomoro’s, only for them to move away yet again in a split second, and Tomoro tries his absolute hardest to not just eat him up right here and then.

“...I guess that’s true,” Raito mumbles quietly.

Tomoro supposes that if he had to describe Raito with one adjective that would make people turn their heads at him and wonder what the hell he was talking about, it would be “Pure”. But maybe “Pure” isn’t the right word either… something like “Naive”, maybe? Somewhere in between that. He knows that it’s weird to say. If Tomoro went back in time to his past self and told him that the guy who beat up a man twice his size and was willing to cold heart a child all so he can fulfill his orders, was “pure” and “naive” in some way, his past self would have looked at him like he wasn’t all right in the head (...Perhaps he wasn’t, but that’s beside the point).

But Tomoro insists it’s the truth. Something he learned about Raito over the years is that he’s someone who strictly follows a code of honor he has set up himself, and he never really goes back on his word once he has said it (Tomoro finds that kind of attitude worrying, actually, but he knows that if he were to ever mention his concerns to Raito, he would inevitably take it the wrong way). He really cares about propriety, and Tomoro thinks it’s particularly easy to hold the fact that he’s 2 years younger than Raito over his head.

“I’m also less powerful than you, and you’re older than me,” Tomoro states matter of factly, knowing that Raito won’t fight back against that kind of logic, “so it’d be easy for you to overpower me, no?”

Raito’s eye twitches. “You know I hate it when you say something sensible,” he grouses, but not showing any resistance, still.

See? That’s what Tomoro means. It was concerningly simple to get Raito into doing what he wanted and agreeing with him, nowadays. It’s kind of frightening to imagine a future where Raito was together with someone less considerate than Tomoro (well, not that Tomoro exactly thinks he’s the nicest person out there), and that certain someone taking advantage of that purity.

…Well, he guesses that might be the reason why he stayed with Tactics for so long until he literally couldn’t anymore. He’d like to ask Raito himself, but he doesn’t want to dredge up any painful memories.

Suddenly, a slash of guilt hits him. When Tomoro ponders about that fact, he removes his hand from Raito’s fit tummy, and he moves his head away further from his neck to offer some space. This is for the better. Trying to control oneself should be considered part of being a good boyfriend, Tomoro thinks. He feels his head clear up a little now.

Raito’s eyes finally move to meet Tomoro’s, carrying a tinge of confusion, and he furrows his eyebrows.

“... Sorry, you’re right. I don’t know what got into me,” Tomoro tries to explain when looking at Raito’s expression, “It’s just that—”

“W—well,” Raito clears his throat, interrupting Tomoro, “it can’t be helped. I am attractive and irresistible, after all. It’s no wonder you would lose control in front of me…,” he finishes, trailing off and being too embarrassed to make eye contact with Tomoro once again.

Tomoro breaks out in a gentle smile. As he was getting used to Raito’s choice of words and language, he gradually came to understand that sentences like these that anyone else would write off as obnoxious, were Raito trying to reassure him in his own way.

“Yes, yes,” Tomoro reaffirms his words, moving closer to give Raito a peck on the forehead, “you are attractive, irresistible and cute,” Tomoro adds, knowing exactly how Raito will react.

Raito pouts, his face getting redder again. “Nobody said anything about cute…”

“...But, I’ve been meaning to ask,” Tomoro swallows, trying to move the topic to the initial thing that sparked this conversation in the first place, “Have… Have you ever thought about doing things that go beyond just pressing our mouths together and hugging…?” He manages to finish, now being the one to look away from Raito, yet not moving to increase their distance some more.

“...Ha?”

“I—I mean, we have been dating for quite some time now, so I thought…” Tomoro fumbles, trying really hard to find the words that won’t make him cringe in embarrassment. Why was this so awkward to talk about?

Tomoro suddenly feels both of Raito’s warm hands cup his cheeks, and soon they are so harshly squished that Tomoro couldn’t get out another word even if he wanted to.

“Stupid idiot,” Raito manages to spit out, “First, you suddenly hover over my neck like you’re some kind of freaky dog, then, you manage to use my own words against me, but then you’re all like Oh but I should ask first and act like a total loser while doing it,” Raito mimics, finishing his mini rant. Tomoro looks at his face again. Of course, Raito wore his signature Are you actually stupid? look. Tomoro even managed to find that face endearing after a while.

Raito sighs, softening his grip on Tomoro’s cheeks. “Sometimes, I really don’t get you.”

“I’m just trying to look out for my boyfriend,” Tomoro defends himself.

“Do you think I’m twelve or something?”

“...And you still didn’t give me an actual answer,” Tomoro reminds him, ignoring Raito’s jab.

“Well, maybe don’t make me respond to such an embarrassing question, moron! Especially when the answer is obvious!” Raito splutters, his face beet red again.

Tomoro finds it hard to stop the smile threatening to creep up on his face now, somehow reassured by Raito’s answer that wasn’t an answer at all.

“So, it’s fine if I give you a kiss mark…?” Tomoro teasingly asks, wanting to trigger more of Raito’s interesting reactions.

“...It’ll be hard to hide…” Raito inaudibly says, scrunching his eyebrows.

Ah. That’s what he was concerned about?

“Isn’t that the point? So everyone knows that—”

“Don’t you even dare finish that sentence! Tenma Tomoro!!” Raito manages to blabber out. Tomoro felt small particles of spit entering his face. It’s also been a while since he referred to Tomoro with his full name. Whenever Raito gets like this, it reminds him of a cute, moody cat.

He had a good idea. Tomoro tries to appeal to him with a better offer then, one that he’d wanted to do just as badly. “What about a tongue kiss, then?” he asks, getting straight to the point.

Raito’s mouth falls open, his hands leaving Tomoro’s cheeks and just falling like leaves. He stays like this for quite some time, before trying to recollect himself. Tomoro continues to simply stare at him, drinking up every expression Raito can give him, desperately waiting for the “OK” sign.

Raito’s face fastly regains its red colors, recovering from the initial shock of such a straightforward request. Then, he tries to make eye contact with Tomoro the best he can, tilting his head ever so slightly forward and then moving it back to its previous position. Tomoro guesses it’s the best impression of a nod Raito can do in this situation. It’s adorable and it tempts Tomoro to tease his older boyfriend about it, but he’s not about to waste the once in a lifetime chance he’s been given.

So he dives straight in, shoving his tongue into Raito’s mouth without any regards to anything else and not giving Raito any time to adjust. The insides of Raito’s mouth felt… warm, likely because of the fact that Raito’s face was flushed for the entire time. It was really wet too, which tempts Tomoro to explore more, and even more. He tries to interact with Raito’s tongue, circling it around and digging even deeper when it’s been withdrawn, not letting it escape in any way. Tomoro also touches the back of Raito’s head and pulls him closer to deepen their kiss. It earns him a muffled whimper coming from Raito’s throat.

Crap. He can’t stop now. Is this what Gekkomon feels when he’s licking other people without any regards for the other party? Tomoro guesses he can’t fault his Digimon for that kind of behavior anymore when it feels this good. He licks the gentle contours of Raito’s inner cheeks, before moving on to suck his upper lip. He’s getting lightheaded, likely because the sensation tastes this great.

Tomoro suddenly senses his back getting repeatedly slapped. “M…Mmphh!!” Raito’s muffled scream woke him out of this trance.

Oh. He forgot that they both needed to breathe.

Tomoro pulls his tongue out after his boyfriend's repeated slaps got harsher and harsher. A string of saliva connected their tongues. Heavy breaths echoed across the room, and Tomoro finally gets to see just how done Raito looks, which tempts him to dive straight into Round 2. Seeing Raito not respond with any of his usual quips makes him snap out of it, though. He’ll let it be for now, that’s for the better. Maybe for another day…

Instead, he pulls his genius boyfriend into a hug, gently caressing his back as if he were to break if not handled with utmost care.

“Thanks for putting up with me and my requests,” Tomoro says with the fondest tone imaginable, breaking out in a smile.

“...Idiot,” Raito manages to mumble, soothingly patting his back on the same spot he slapped him on, “There’s no way I’d ever put up with you…”

Something within Tomoro’s heart stirs when he hears those words mumbled out so softly. It might not be such a big deal to the average person, but hearing those words from someone whom Tomoro knows has historically had trouble properly expressing his feelings, running away whenever he was faced with the prospect of affection, means the world to him. The fact that Raito slowly opened up to him like this felt even more amazing than the kiss.

Tomoro thinks to himself and rests his chin on his boyfriend’s shoulder.

That’s right. I shouldn’t underestimate him so much…

Notes:

Raito's terrible communication and being unable to say what he wants/doesn't want vs Tomoro's growing obsession over Raito but his inherent kindness stopping him from being a total freak and wanting to handle Raito with the utmost care.... Even TomoRai's dating life would be turbulent...
