The story of the Guide

Summary:

Just a short story about a parent and child talking about death, mostly to write more about a important character I plan to have appear in my other stories.

But feel free to use him in your stories if you want. This is a character that can be used in other stories as well.

Mostly to build on the concept of reincarnation.
Art might be added later if i can get myself to do that.

Chapter Text

"Dad!!!"

A young dragonets voice echoed through the cave. The cave that was home to a father and his daughter.

"What is it my child? Trouble sleeping again?"

Ever since her death they had both had trouble sleeping. I miss you dear, why did those humans have to capture you of all dragons, why not me? He worried he hadn't done enough.

"I miss her... can you tell me the story of the Guide again?"

Ah, that story again. I straighten up, and pull her in with my tail, I wrap my body around her.

"Of course i can tell you that story.."

Long, long, long ago, there where two very special dragons, no dragon has ever been able to truly describe them in detail. They had many names but two always stood out the most.

Lifemaker and Guardian.

Lifemaker is the mother of dragonkind, the soulweaver, she has hatched the very first generation of dragons.

Guardian is the protector of dragons, and Lifemaker's partner, you could call him the mate of Lifemaker but is that truly the correct title for a dragon so great?

At first all dragons lived in the eternal fields before they moved to the mortal fields to live there along with the humans that existed already.

Among these many dragons was Guide, a young dragonet with scales as White as ivory and eyes as bright as start, the scales along his spine and tail where colored with the colors of the rainbow.

Guide wanted to help humans and gave them fire and stories.

But then one night they had choosen to kill the dragon, the one who had guided them, helped them... nobody knows why they did it, but its a warning to never trust humans, they are greedy and pests.

But the story of the Guide, the first dragon that died was not yet over. In order to keep him from dissapearing the Lifemaker tied his soul to the first realm of dragons, turning it into something else... it became what we now call the Realm if Passing.

"And what happened to the Guide?"

"Well lets say he became something far more greater than a guide for humans."

Instead of guiding and helping humans the Guide became a guide for dragon souls, the realm of passing became a place were a dragons soul would go after the passed on.. there they could stay for as long as they want, flying over endless fields, a dragonet could play and never get tired.

But if they wanted to? Then they could go back and rehatch as a dragonet, with the guidance of both the Lifemaker and Guardian... but also the three moon deities.

Hope, Fate and Destiny, the three moon deities, the weavers of the Grand Tapestry of Life. As every dragon lived their lifeforce, their thread would be woven into it by them, as it still grows everyday, with every dragons breath it keeps growing...

"What does that place look like dad? Is it beautiful?"

"From the stories I was told the Realm of Passing is amazing place, an endless world, with hills, forrests, fields, mountains, desserts, oceans, swamps, tundras and well... there are places where a dragon will feel at home. But let me continue, theres more."

Despite it all the Guide was lonely, he had many dragons to play with at all times but it was a lot. There were dragons who continued their conquest in the Realm of Passing, they wanted to take the Betweenlife for themselves... so the Guide had take action and gained a new name along his monicer as the Guide of souls, the Soulguider... he gained the name of Souleater... as he devoured souls of dragons seeking to control that place.

He didn't like to do this and decided to only do this if a dragon choose a path of destruction 5 times in a row... He became a Judge...

As time went on and more dragons were hatched the Realm got busier and the Guide needed help, so some dragons choose to help him until they would reincarnate again, as a dragon choose this they would gain the title of a DeadWing, a warden of the Betweenlife.

The DeadWings assisted the Guide, but it wasn't a tribe, it was made if dragons of each tribe...

My story was interupted by the soft breathing of a sleeping dragonet.

Oh, she has fallen asleep. I curl around her, put my wing around her protectively.

"Sleep dear, and dream happy dreams..."
