PROLOGUE
Just as she thought. An another pack of Stratocracy reinforcements. It’s nothing a NWS-24 rifle usually couldn’t handle, it’s just what was being hunted for - the plans for some new censorship and surveillance system the Military Government was developing. At least that’s what Sirugi told her.
“In the Piterskiy Sovet’s name, how many of them are there? Must be below five, but it seems like so many more!” said Garina, quietly and to herself. It wasn’t a new thing for her, you know, manning the NWS-24 semi-auto rifle she stole from a JAF soldier long ago - but the ones she was facing right now weren't easy to take down at all, and apparently the rumours of new equipment for the Japanese Armed Forces that had gone around in the public was correct - a miracle, since reports from spies are almost never correct, but it was true now.
The soldiers wore a white & black uniform, a gas mask covering their faces and manning the new JA-4 semi-automatic rifle - a much lighter and efficient weapon than the old NWS-24. They were given much better training than the group that Garina was part of, The Partizani, so it was a hard fight against these - especially if they were special forces, which they seemingly were judging by the urban uniform.
When one of the soldiers was reloading his rifle, she took the shot. The 5.56mm shot rang out in the hall, travelling faster than speed of sound itself, reaching its target. The soldier collapsed. As the other turned towards Garina, he got shot in the same way, but now his body has turned on its side due to him reaching a fatal state in a split of a second as he was moving.
The third - finally came out of cover, but - also got shot, more immediate now, but falling to the barrier and hanging his arms over it, bleeding out on it. Garina decided that was it for the pack. The JSAF tended to send out packs of three anyway in the recent times. She reached for the JA-4 rifle. It was black, had a triangle folding stock, was about 27cm long in total when unfolded, had a 180mm barrel, and nice iron sights mounted on a rail. She folded the sights, and attached her own NWSTech holosight onto it, then the laser and flashlight combo onto the side rail. She thought of spinning on the suppressor the other guy had, and decided that she’d do it.
After she did, she checked the information about the rifle on the side:

She stopped reading at the last phrase, finding it boring, and slinged the rifle, then contacted Sirugi through her Motorola civilian radio.
“Hey. I found some new rifle. The Intellegence unit was right, somehow.” said Garina. “Really? Since when were they ever correct? Well, they’ve definitely earned my trust.” answered Sirugi through the comms. When you imagine him speaking, think of a Russian-accented man’s Japanese. He’s a native Russian from the CRRS, though older than Garina by about two decades. “Well, good for them. Did they fire anyone in the last few weeks? By the way, the rifle’s been produced for over a year already.” answered Garina, in a more of a questioning manner in the second last phrase. “Kinda, but not exactly. Basically, yes, but it’s not that those guys that were fired in specific mattered to many. Also, it’s been produced for a year? They sure know about us, and for a long time. But they also know we tend to steal their stuff a lot, so it makes sense for them not to send out units with the new rifles to us first.”responded Sirugi, with the comms having slightly more static occasionally. “I guess so. And… can I get evac’d? I’ve got the plans already on the SSD, you know.” responded Garina, with a bit of a sarcastic note in her tone. “Ah— yea, sorry, we’ll send out a van. By the way, be careful on the way back out of the basement. I think they may have someone up there, but my paranoia’s been acting up recently.”
