Encounter With Life And Death || Leon x otherworldly Reader

Summary:

Leon is at the end of his limits, the definition of a rock in a hard place until a very strange yet magical being comes into view.

Notes:

A/N: this is a very small Drabble that came to me in between my vampire Leon one shot. This is written to take place somewhere in the middle of Leon’s RE4 mission, likely around the water monster section.

I recommend you check out my tumblr I post there more and it’s under the same username I have here !

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Leon’s hands are shaking, his body spent and used well beyond its limits, he’s been fighting for his life to help the presidents daughter, his chest rising and falling rapidly as he gains his breath his back flush against a victorian looking grate fence, close to what he can only assume is some kind of place of worship. Pale moonlight shining down upon him, as if to judge him for not finding that poor girl sooner. He’s practically ready to throw in the towel and just shoot himself, he can barely take the guilt anymore, it’s eating away at his mind and making it impossible to focus on the mission, how is he supposed to explain to hunnigan that he’s already lost his mind in this place where the only company he has is walking corpses and chainsaws.

Suddenly while Leon is feeling sorry for himself there’s a loud snapping sound like bones crumpling. Leon’s hand quickly goes to point his gun in the direction of the sound, muscles tensing in anticipation of what will attack and rip into him next, only to see what can only be described as an angel descending down to the mortal realm, Leon is momentarily blinded at the site, verbose robes pooling at your feet, arms long and ashen, white wings spread out in impossibly long flaps, leaving feathers to float idly by your side. And for a moment it’s almost as if Leon has stepped headfirst into a fantasy novel from his wildest dreams. And for a moment he feels as if he’s a pastor praying endlessly to a higher being to save his people from a disease wreaking havoc onto his home.

He stands there frozen like a deer in headlights, his heart rate racing so quickly that he almost feels like it might explode out of his chest in pools of gore. His gun no longer raised but limply lowered to the side. For a moment maybe even a fraction of a second Leon wonders if he died in his last battle and this was who was here to take his foolish soul. Hell, Leon isn’t even religious but for a moment he almost mumbles a prayer.

You however finally realize he’s there, broad yet sharp features tightening as you move toward him in slow elegant strides, robes swishing gently in the breeze of the crisp night air. It’s as if the worlds stopped spinning, the once loud sounds of birds chirping and loud villagers mumbling now completely silent, as if the world bent at your knee and to your will, as if you were authority in of itself. Even the sound of the lake had began to quiet into nothing but a dull whisper from what was once furious waves.

You tilt your head, a small ‘oh’ leaving you as you spread what he thought to be wings. He’s lost in your cold eyes until you speak out in a shrill yet enticingly clam voice, “my apologies human, it’s rare for any of you to notice me, or spot me at all for that matter.” You say, arms opening as if not to scare him, to show that you mean no harm despite the sharp fangs clearly protruding from your maws.

Leon stands dazed looking at you in what you assumed to be horror but was actually awe. You were beautiful, your body long and impossibly ethereal, your hands ashen with visible veins, eyes greyed over in such a way that it looked like there were clouds pooling inside of them.

“What are you?” He finally speaks out, voice barely above a whisper.

You silently watch him for a moment, not certain of how to reply, you haven’t exactly given what you are in human terms much thought. “Perhaps a reaper, or a weeping angel, possibly fae, anything you humans deem fit, simply otherworldly might fit?” You reply, rather unsure how to interact with someone still mentally alive. You’d been roaming this village for a few weeks now. In fact you’ve roamed many places like this one overtaken by curiosity, after all the human world these days seems to love playing with things it shouldn’t, ever since that T-Virus breakout a short while ago, you admit that you’re enamored by the human races ability to conjure up cosmically horrors, at least for their mortal standards.

“You’re not a las plagas victim then?” He asks, still unsure of himself, unsure of how to carry himself. He’s still shaking like a leaf, his body likely overwhelmed from simply looking at you.

“Oh, no, sweet child, I’m simply here to watch, I’ve been watching for a very, very long time, this little village is simply something I’m looking over for a little while out of morbid curiosity.” You muse, and intrigued by the man step closer, who in turn simply looks up at you like a dazed deer. You smile a bit, sharp teeth almost glowing in the moonlight. “May I ask, what are you thinking right now?” You ask, head tilted at an angle in question.

“You’re beautiful.” He replies, his hand reaching up as if to touch you for a moment before letting it drop back at his side. He’s watching you as if you were a religious figure, his body language rigid as he watches the moonlight illuminate you, casting a practical halo onto you. Leon can feel sweat pool into his shirt, it’s as if you have him in a trance, the presidents daughter practically forgotten for a moment in time.

You stand still for a moment taken aback by his answer, Wings opening and closing for a moment. Leon mentally notes that might be your way of fidgeting.

“What an interesting thing to say.” You say bewildered, long claws coming up to your chin in thought. Grey eyes sizing down the human before you. “You look as if you have a question.” You add as an afterthought after sizing up the man.

“I- uh, have you seen the presidents daughter? I’m looking for her, and you said you’ve been watching over the situation here for a while, right?” Leon stutters out practically stumbling over his own words, he’s usually so calm and monotone he can’t comprehend what’s come over him.

“The blonde woman?” You ask, faintly remembering something similar to the description the human gave you, you don’t mind sharing information to a human that doesn’t run away in fear at the mere sight of you.

Leon nods, breathing out a sigh of relief “Yeah, have you seen her?” He replies, a knot of hope in his chest that you really are an angel sent to help him.

Your wings flap open and closed as you turn around, pointing a huge castle like structure.
“Last I heard she was this way, I’m unsure if this woman will still be there or even alive however.” You say honestly, you truly don’t think whoever this woman is will still be alive at this point but the human practically beams at the news.

“Well, I’ll be taking my leave now, I thank you for humoring me, foolish mortal.”

You turn around cooly, ready to leave once more, and Leon practically feels like he’s being left to die, something in his brain has to be broken because he’s practically whimpering as he watches you leave him.

Leon jogs after you, pushing past the gate haphazardly. “Can you please stay with me?” Leon begs desperately his voice cracking rather pathetically, a hand pulling at one of the folds of your long dirtied robes. He’s not sure what’s come over him but he feels like if you leave now everything good in his life will leave (which admittedly is next to nothing), it’s as if he’s possessed by you, enamored by your very presence, your breathing.

You stand still, stopping in your stride, mulling over his pathetic cry for your company, which admittedly you might somewhere find somewhat endearing in your inhuman heart. “Very well.” You reply, wings closing as you turn around. This might be amusing you think, after all it’s not often you’re perceived let alone asked for, it wouldn’t hurt to play around for a while, it’s not as if you have much to do.

So you do, following him around like a guardian angel momentarily stepping in with a swipe of your long fingers when he almost dies to an ant looking creature while roaming around a huge castle. Leon wonders a few times whether anyone else can really see you, he also wonders a few times if he’s fully lost his mind.
