Chapter Text

“What?” Kiyoomi questioned, his face drained of colour and his hands gripped onto the cloth in front of him. Is this even legal ? he thought, can they actually do this to him? “I don't understand what you are saying? You want me to quit my job? For what! So I could join your company?”

“Yes, that's exactly it, think about the image that would bring to the Sakusa name!” His father insisted, lowering his wine glass and reaching for his wife's hand in support. “You don't want to end up like your cousin do you? God knows what he's currently doing at this moment,” his dad remarked, dismissing his youngest son's despair.

“Honey, think about it, you're a smart and handsome young boy. You could do so much for this company, it was going to be passed down to you anyway,” his mother chimed in, perfecting her lipstick with her unoccupied hand whilst also managing to send him a pointed stare.

“That is ridiculous!” Kiyoomi stated, rising from his chair and slamming his palm onto the table, looking around the table ignoring his sibling's disapproving and confused glances.

“I am not your toy!”

"Of course you're not, I think a ‘toy’ would behave better,” his eldest brother remarked, ignoring Kiyoomi's entire outburst, the light reflecting onto his new engagement ring.

That's what started this whole entire argument. A stupid engagement announcement from his brother to his brother's fiance. She flexed her   ring at the table to everyone and the prospect of futures had gotten bought up and obviously that had happened to turn into his dad just deciding his future for him.

“Oh wow! You just have to say something don’t you dear brother of mine,” Kiyoomi remarked, sarcasm clear in his tone. He was so done with this whole conversation, his family and his stupid future.

“Im leaving.”

“Kiyoomi, sit down now.” His father ordered, frowning at his youngest son.

“No, I'm done, you made me quit boxing, then you made me cut contact with Komori and now you're trying to stop me from living my own life!”

Stunned, Kiyoomi's father stilled, his face growing red and his fists clenching as if he was going to hit something, knowing him, he most likely will and Kiyoomi didnt want to stick around for that.

“Dont message or call anymore.” Kiyoomi declared, shrugging his coat on and closing the door behind him, ignoring his brother's remarks, his fathers yelling and his mothers persuasion.

The first thing Kiyoomi thought about when he closed the door was the cold.

It was so cold, the actions of leaving his family behind.

His second thought was how warm he felt and how it also beautifully contrasted his actions.

He was free.

Free

He hadn't felt that for years, not when he would spike a volleyball to the ground or every nod of approval from his parents.

The last time he had felt like that was when he was in that arena, boxing gloves covering his hands and the foam padding beneath his bare feet.

He was going to go home.

His home, no one else's.

He pulled his phone out, blocked every single family member that he knew would try and argue with him about leaving and then dialed a number he never quite understood why he saved, until now.

On the third ring it picked up.

“Hello?” a voice boomed through the phone, over distinct yelling, grunting and music.

“I wanna come back.”

Silence followed through the conversation for a good 10 seconds until a laugh broke it, not a mocking one though.

“Yeah?”

“Come get me and take me to that damn ring, komori.”

“Did you leave?” his cousin's voice wavered.

“Was I ever there to begin with?”

“I thought you were, fuck i thought i had lost you to them.”

“Just come get me and we can talk, kay?”

A wet laugh came through the phone and a sound of approval was heard.

“You at the park?”

“Yes.”

“10 minutes.”

And then the call ended,

And exactly 10 minutes later, his cousin appeared with a boy trailing behind him.

“Hello,” Kiyoomi managed to say out loud although he was thinking a lot more.

Was his favourite colour still yellow, how tall is he now, did he ever get that promotion, fuck does he even still work at that job? Does he still have the matching tattoo or did he cover it up. Can he even still look at kiyoomi with the same fondness as he used too.

His thoughts were cut short to a body slightly shorter than him engulfing him in a hug, hands roaming around his back as if this wasn't real.

“Oh kiyo…” his cousin whispered, his hands now finding solace on the back of Kiyoomi's head, "you're so so stupid but im so proud of you.”

“Am I even allowed back?” kiyoomi whispered back, he hadn't exactly left on good terms with everyone, well maybe except for kyoutani.

“Fuck, of course you are, everyone has missed you, plus we have also gotten new members.”

“Oh? Are they better than me?”

“No. I don't think they could be, even if they wanted to.”

“Uhm..” a voice called out behind him, causing him to turn his head and now stare at the boy, who had a black eye and split lip.

“Ah this is one of the new ones!” Komori remarked, disembarking from Kiyoomi although he had still kept close, “Kiyo, meet Suna, Suna meet Kiyoomi Sakusa.”

Raising an eyebrow, Suna looked Kiyoomi up and down before breaking into a grin.

“Fuck yeah! I get to meet you before Samu and Tsumu.”

“Who?”

“Some new members, they are really good, especially Atsumu.”

“Osamu is my boyfriend,” Suna chirped, tapping away at his phone.

And funnily enough, at that komori sort of deflated, his smile dropping for a split second before appearing again.

“Can we go to the arena now?” kiyoomi questioned, already getting sick of this Suna person.

Nodding, Komori led the way towards the car , signalling for him to get into the back.

“Okay Kiyo, when we get there you're most likely going to be bombarded, especially by Kyoutani and Goshiki, they miss you alot,” Komori warned, already half way to the shop.

“So are all the rumours true?” Suna asked, his eyes not betraying his doubt.

“What rumours?”

“You left one day out of the blue and wouldn't answer anyone's calls.”

“Yes.”

After an awkward 5 minutes, they had finally arrived.

“Okay be careful and make sure to not shock anyone, as no one actually knows you're here,” Komori said, after shooing Suna away and leaving himself alone with Kiyoomi.

Entering the building, Kiyoomi smiled, lord knows when was the last time he was here.

He made sure to look in every corner, checking that he wasn't hallucinating actually being here.

He was looking at all the shelves before he came across the door.

The door that will decide his future.

The door that will no longer give him an option to leave again.

Allowing the door to creak open he carefully walks down each step, making sure to take this time as he wasn't quite sure he would be able to deal with what awaits him down there.

The moment he puts his foot onto the last step he can feel every single eye in the room on him.

“Oh my fucking god!” Oikawa wails, running over and enveloping Kiyoomi into a hug, shortly followed by iwazuimi, sugawara and shirabu.

“You absolute dick!”

“You kiss ass Sakusa.”

“Are you staying this time?”

That question made it feel like time had stopped. Was he staying? Of course he was, was he even still good at boxing? I mean he hoped so.

“Yes.”

Kiyoomi could hear cheers before he registered the fact that the previous four boys that had been hugging him had been rather roughly removed for 2 smaller ones.

“If you leave again I'll kill you.” Kyoutani snarled, his arms tightening around kiyoomi as if the fact of him being here wasn't real and honestly he understood that as he didn't feel real at the moment, Goshiki nodding in agreement.

“You suck for leaving,” Goshiki added, nuzzling further into kiyoomi.

“I wanna see him!” an annoying voice pierce through the warm atmosphere, causing kiyoomi to snarl.

You can argue that Kiyoomi has been distracted by quite a lot of things in his life, but a boy? Never. Until now.

Surprisingly enough though, this boy, who had bleach blonde hair; big brown doe eyes; and a smirk that could probably break a girl's heart acted like a complete cunt.

“Is this Sakusa?” the boy questioned, raising his chin slightly in a way that pissed kiyoomi off.

“Yes.” kiyoomi gritted, his eyes sharpening at him and the grey haired boy behind him.

“Atsumu, that’s osamu,” Atsumu supplied, his eyes slowly going up and down Kiyoomi's body as if he was a predator and kiyoomi was his prey.

“He doesn't really look that strong, are you sure he's as good as everyone says?” osamu (?) asked, seeming genuinely confused.

In response to that, Atsumu snorted, what an ugly thing, kiyoomi thought.

“Want me to prove it to you?” Kiyoomi asked, his face starting to flush red in anger.

Raising his hands, Osamu smirked, managing to reach up and pat Kiyoomi's head as if he was a dog.

What the fuck.

What the fuck?

Sensing an argument about to happen, komori came over and dragged kiyoomi off, loudly exclaiming some excuse about how he has been taking a break.

“Dont start a fight with them, or at least wait for the ring.” Komori scowled, still dragging kiyoomi away.

Kiyoomi learnt two things that night.

One, he didn't care that much about his family,

And two, he wanted to beat the shit out of Osamu, Atsumu and maybe even Suna
