Chapter Text
Everyone knew Asagiri Gen. Even Senku.
But no one except Senku knew what Asagiri was like out of his performance.
It was a couple months ago, maybe march,
Asagiri was tired, so with all the energy he had he put on a cap and a hoodie and avoided all makeup. He thought he looked ugly as hell. And walked to the nearest coffee shop he could spot
Asagiri knew it was a school day, he knew his manager would be pissed, although, his sleepy mind seemed to not comprehend the fact that it was 2:30.
Senku was coming out of school, practically dragged out by Taiju and Yuzuriha. His stupid classmates had spent the whole day yapping about this (quoted) ‘cool’ Asagiri Gen. Apparently he wrote love books and did mentalist gigs.
Senku couldn’t give a shit less.
Apparently Asagiri had a concert coming up, based off of what Taiju and Yuzuriha said, it must’ve been the 3rd one this month. ‘Sheesh’ thought Senku ‘he must be a free guy, or he’s just bratty’. Senku sighed and strolled into the cafe like any day.
Then he saw him, in the corner.
He looked tired, like he’s been run around too many times. ‘Damn, sorry for him I guess’ Senku thought.
He recognised that face, but from where.
The coffee shop was packed, and Taiju and Yuzuriha had to go pick up their anniversary cake (yes, Taiju confesssed, but this is about SenGen lovelies).
So here Senku was, all alone, kinda like a stray cat. He sighed and went over to the man in the corner.
“Hello” Senku said nonchalantly. “Sup” said the masked guy.
Senku sighed. “The place is packed, can I sit here?” He asked. The masked figure looked surprised before agreeing.
Senku sat down. Then, him and the stranger got caught in a conversation, it went from average things from what they were doing at a coffee shop at this hour, and ,moved onto a conversation about stressful timetables.
“I swear” Senku started, “My teachers are intentionally TRYING to make e fucking late. Like Bitch, whatdoyou mean I’ve got 2 minutes to get from P.E, to English? That’s 1 billion percent inpossible, I mean, look at the math” Senku said his eyebrows curling up.
Gen laughed. “Well you know what? My manager told me that I have to go from 7 - 8. Like oney-hay, what the uck-fay?”. Senku gave a brief nod.
The shop was really busy, so the pair still hadn't gotten their coffees yet, but neither seemed to care, all wrapped up in their own world.
Suddenly Senku felt his heart rate quicken. The other was smiling, and it was GOLDEN. Senku had never felt this way before, so he was a little confused about how one man's smile could make him feel like he’d just bagged the world.
Gen looked at him, making his ‘strange heart condition people apparently call love’ worse as Senku felt his heartbeat on what feels like an illegal race.
“Hey, what’s your name, never really aught-cay-ed it” Gen said nervously. “Ishigami Senku” Senku replied firmly. “Right, so Ishigam-“ “Senku.” Senku budged in. “Just Senku”
Gen gave a quiet laugh that made Senku purse his lips unconsciously. “Right, so Senku - chann. That’s a cool name.”.
”what about you?” Senku inquired, leaning closer with pure interest. “Ahh, I’m actually quite famous! So sorry Senku - Chann, I won’t spill”.
“Senku and A.G, your orders are ready now.” A.G? “Ahh, seems our names have been dduresses-aay ed Senku - Chann” Gen said in a hyped voice. His Name was A.G? No~, perhaps he really is a figure and is avoiding paparazzi by using initials. “Oh, Senku - chann, before I go, may I have your number?”.
“Sure, here” Senku said, bringing out one of his many notebooks and tearing off a page, and writing his number down. “Here”.
Gen took the page with a smile. “Well, see you, Senku - Chann, hope we’ll see each other once again.”. Gen smirks and leaves, his hoodie flying off as he does.
“Sure, A.G, but your hoodies down” Senku calls, and laughs cruelly as Gen goes to fix it. “Meanie” Gen calls back with a pout, before once again shifting his feet and leaving.
Senku’s strange ‘disease’ died down. Now, his heart beated with a regular pattern.
He smirked and cranked his neck, sipping his coffee and walked down the street schoolbag in tow.
The following weeks Asagiri disguised as A.G and Senku met up multiple nights, but this particular week about a month later, changed the course of their relationship entirely.
A.G and Senku were deep in a conversation when it started. The drip drip drip of bad weather.
“Senku - Chann, do you hear that?” Gen said nervously, like he hoped he had bad hearing and the weather wasn’t taking a turn for the worst.
”Yep. Looks like rain, why?” Senku replied.
Gen gulped. “Forgot my umbrella” he said nervously. Oh Senku thought
“Well, I can walk you home” Senku reassured, but A.G only looked worse.
“No, Senku - chann, I thought I mentioned I was lenty-pay famous, someone would recognise me and we can’t get one millimetre close before the gency-ay would kick you out.” Gen said.
Senku now realised the struggle, and in a couple seconds had a counter that’ll surely make him faint.
“Uhhh, you could- *Cough loudly*-cometomyhouseandstaythere” Senku said.
”Orry-say, speak up?” Gen asked.
“Oh goddamitt, “do you want to stay at my house for a little bit?” Senku repeated. Gen’s face went flushed as he stammered for the right word.
”Well, ah, ohh, ehh, arrmm, o….K?” Gen said. So, with only Senku’s umbrella covering the duo, they set out for Senku’s house.
”OH! You mentioned you were in high school, yes?” Gen asked’
”Yes, why?” Senku questioned.
”What if one of your family members recognised me? What would they say if their son brought home a-“ Gen started, but Senku cut him off.
“Relax, my only family member, my Dad, is up in space.” Senku said with a shrug. Gens eyes dilated slightly.
”You’re all by yourself? Senku - Chann, you’re only in high school, correct?” Gen asked, voice a little more shaky. What 17 year old is just -LEFT ALONE by their parent? I mean, yeah that’s normal, but what 1 year olds dad left him for SPACE TRAVEL, WITH NOBODY TO LOOK AFTER HIM? That’s so absurd. Gen was out done. “So you’re alone?” Gen questioned.
”Yep, why? You think I can’t handle myself or something? I’m fine, and whenever I really get distracted, my annoying best friend Taiju forces something down my windpipe, so I’m 1 billion percent fine, mr, Mysterious A.G” Senku says, shoving down a lot of gens worries, that makes sense.
“But what about your-“ Gen begins, but Senku puts a finger in front of his mouth, stopping. “My Dad? He calls every single hour he can, in fact, I’m the one who forced him up into that rocket ship, he’s doing it for me.” Senku says.
gen is more focused on the finger hovering just in front of his lips.
NEVER in Gen’s life had he been treated as normally as Senku had. By 15 he was on world tours, he had fangirls who looked like they were there to kill, like a Yandere.
Senku was the first person to really not give a singular shit about his career. Maybe its just because he didn’t recognise him, sure, but this moment made Gen feel safer than all the body guards in the world.
Senku started walking again, and Gen followed so he didn’t get drenched in rain. “Ean-May!” He declared, and Senku gave him a glare that should be illegal on how merciless it was.
Once they got to Senku’s house, Gen started to chicken out. “Surely I cannot invade Senku - chan! It’s only fair that I stay back!!” Gen said, but Senku shot him the most bombastic side-eye ever, and so Gen’s efforts were in vain. Senku practically shoved Gen into the apartment. Gen felt so strange, not like he was being kidnapped, but not like he was completely safe either. Gen took a moment to discover the place. It looked empty. Not in the way of completely empty, but more like a homey kind of empty, until Gen looked into Senku’s room.
The place looked definitely like a teenager had slept there, but the amount of science equipment shocked Gen to his core.
“Well, Senku - chan, you sure have a collection of science - thingys” Gen said, not quite sure what the name for the materials were.
“Yeah, well A.G, I’m sure your room is worse, especially if you're famous. That 10 billion percent would attract fangirls, am I correct?” Senku chimed, trying to learn a little bit more about his mysterious A.G.
”Well, while we’re here, might as well ditch the hood. BUT could you lease-pay do me a little favour and close your windows?” Gen asked, feeling more relaxed.
“Sure” Senku responded plainly. He really did want to see what A.G looked like.
Gen waited for Senku to close all the curtains before taking off his hood completely. He was what Senku would describe as very ‘pleasant’, although we all know he was definitely thinking about how impossibly pretty the mentalist was.
”Senku - chan, you’re oddly quiet, something on your ind-may?” Gen asked. Senku shrugged off the strange feeling building inside of his chest. “10 billion percent fine, A.G.” Suddenly, Senku made a realisation. He’d definitely seen A.G’s face before.
The duo sat down on the couches. “So your dad’s an astronaut, Senku - chann?” Gen chimed. Senku gave a quiet chuckle “Yep, although you could say I was the one to make him an eligible astronaut.” Senku said, priding himself.
”hat-way do you mean by that, Senku - chann?” Gen asked, confused.
“The old man is a good guy, but when it comes to swimming, he’s 10 billion percent incompatible. He tried extremely hard to overcome his weakness, but it was just too unlikely for him, because he didn’t develop the skill as a child.” Senku started.
Gen looked at him, and after processing it, he nodded in recognition. “Ok, so your dad was not the best at swimming and didn’t learn the instinct at birth.” Gen clarified. Senku chuckled and nodded.
”Right on the mark. The old man can’t swim if it cost him his life. So when I was 7 or 8, I began developing a special suit that could accurately paddle for him, and he could hide the mechanics underneath his wetsuit. It took me a while, especially working around the development of Senku 2, but eventually I got my first prototype completed.” Senku said.
Gen was now watching with admiration, he was intrigued to know the story, and he was shocked by the discovery that Senkuu was trying to create a rocket.
”I tested the prototype.” Senku began once again, he tended to rattle on and on when it came to his inventions, “It wasn’t very stable and didn’t have a precise paddle, so I dragged Taiju back to the apartment to make adjustments. After a few more months, we tried the next prototype.”
Senku talked for hours about his bodysuit, and Gen liked listening to the story. It'd been quite a while since he’d heard such a fascinating story outside of his world of lies.
Senku went on for a while, Gen sucking every word into his skin. “So that’s how me a Taiju developed the suit that could propel the old man through the water and got the old man into the Rocket.” Senku finished, although it was only one half of the story. It was getting late, so Senku mentally bookmarked where they were up too in the story, then told Gen they’d continue later, and it was getting late.
”But Dear Senku, I have nothing to walk home with! It’s still pouring outside” Gen countered, not really wanting to leave the scientists side.
“Haha, the old man has a weirdly big collection of umbrellas, take whatever you like, I’m sure he wouldn’t mind” Senku said, unaware of Gen’s efforts to stay.
”Oh, uhh, thanks.” Gen said, deafened. The Scientist was oblivious to Gen’s cause, and therefore confused when the mentalist seemed down at the thought of his dads umbrella.
A couple hours later, the mentalist was out the door, with a swift goodbye. When Gen returned to his apartment, his manager was already there.
“Asagiri Gen” She called, in an extremely unhappy tone.
”Hai, my favourite anager-may?” Gen said, with a poor mask to hide the scared feeling that had expanded throughout his body.
”Where. Were. YOU!” She yelled, throwing her fist at Gen’s wall, the shock actually leaving a dent.
“Now now, my shift was over, and it was break time, then ou-yay know, it started raining!” Gen started, but his manager ignored his excuses.
”double hours” She said firmly.
”Double… what’s..?” Gen said with a hint of disbelief in his voice. His pupils dilated, his breathing got shallow.
”You’re working double hours, Asagiri, let this be a lesson.” His manager finished, before walking out the door.
Double hours. DOUBLE HOURS. How was Gen supposed to see Senku in that time?? He swiftly got over to his couch.
If Gen was being real, the house really didn’t feel like his own, it felt like something temporary the government provided him just so he could be their jester.
To be completely honest, he felt more at home with Senku, in his old apartment that had random chips everywhere than his 1 million dollar estate. All Gen really wanted to do now, was go and snuggle with Senku on his couch, but he couldn’t. Senku was probably asleep. After all, it had somehow become 10:00 pm.
Gen started getting ready for bed, not knowing that he’d be pleasantly surprised by something the following week.
