Quietness is a Feeling

Summary:

You’re afraid of thunder. Mammon tries to help.

Work Text:

Knock knock

The door in front of you opens just enough to let a sliver of light slice you in two.
“What is it? It’s way too late— MC?”

You clench your fist within your hoodie pockets. The natural cacophony outdoors assaults your ears once more, and mammon notices its effects.

“….come in.”

He makes a space for you to sit on his bed. He sits beside you, before quickly getting up to close a second layer of curtain (it did not change the loudness of the thunder, just blocked out the periodic light flashes), before returning back to sitting beside you.

“Ah….Don’t be embarrassed..! It’s totally normal to be afraid of uncomfortable things. I mean, I get crazy freaked out whenever Goldie is threatened with preventative measures from the bank!”

You find his words less than comforting.

“….Dont stress. Youve got me.” His arm wrapped around your shoulder, gently guiding both of you down onto his pillows. There was only a space between your torsos. You did not need vision to see that mammon did not invade out of uncertainty.

You try to move closer. He instantaneously pulled you closer, as if trying to mold into one. Your head was tucked between his neck and the softness of the pillows. The rattling of the windows was calmer. That’s what it felt like at least.

Your hand slid into his. The warmth of his palm laced his touch with a sweetness his words regrettably lacked. It didn’t matter anyway. You knew how he truly felt, how he would welcome you into his world even if you were too scared to ask or he lost the ability to respond.

Your eyes opened. The sun tried its best to spill through the second layer of curtain. You were still wrapped in a warm embrace. His rhythmic breath tickled your nose every third beat of the heart, an airy kiss that prompted you to drift back to sleep.

Not before you got to take a look. Mammons white hair curled in a way that revealed softened features reserved for quietest moments like these. You lifted a finger to stroke his eyelash. It never felt wrong to touch mammon, to explore his space unapologetically. You shifted deeper into this comfortable hug and shut your eyes. Maybe just a little bit longer….
