Chapter Text

Derap wiped his hands off on his pants for maybe the sixty second time that day.

Him and the other members had been to this specific club plenty of times to perform, but today was a bit different. They told some friends that they were here, and inevitably, Wifies was invited.

What about Wifies? Not much, just the fact that Derap had a stupid crush on him for what felt like forever.

And now he had to perform! In front of him! It was awful!

Derap only confided in one person about his predicament- Jumper. She was a member of the band- she did vocals and guitar.

Jumper was the only person that actually knew about him liking Wifies, since he was, according to her, way too talkative when drunk.

He felt someone grab onto his arm. He jumped, focusing back on where he was.

"Lock in, it's our turn to head up." Zam let go, gesturing for him to follow her upstage. Right, okay. The club worked by having local or visiting bands play on a schedule- mostly reaching out to them on weekends.

Derap followed, about ready to have a nervous breakdown. He pulled his hood up, stepping onto the unlit stage. Pangi, Zam, and Jumper were getting into position.

Derap found the drum set, hesitating while standing behind it. He looked around the club, searching for any familiar faces.

He saw Parrot sitting at a table surrounded by a few people he knew. He could name all of them, but one stood out in particular.

Wifies. He sat right next to Parrot, his hand covering a half full drink. Wifies was sitting so he could perfectly face the stage without having to turn.

Wifies's eyes landed on him. Terrifying. He smiled, lifting his hand slightly up off the glass to wave at him. Derap froze, feeling very warm. He gave a small wave and slime in return, sitting down on the seat in front of the drum set.

How was Wifies so pretty. Literally how. It actually wasn't fair. And he's so smart too? Like, pick a proficiency! He was too perfect. Way too perfect for Derap.

Derap wanted to go backstage and hide, but that was unfortunately not an option, so he looked to his bandmates instead. They all looked about ready to start performing.

Great, thank the heavens, something to focus on that wasn't Wifies. He mentally ran through the list of songs they were supposed to play, rolling up his sleeves.

Derap picked up the drumsticks, lightly tossing them in the air. He took a deep breath, feeling a lot less tense.

He looked over again, double checking that they were all ready.

He set one drumstick against one of the drums, hitting the other one on it.

One, two, one two three four.

. . .

Wifies leaned back in his chair, taking a sip of his drink. He listened to the band play- honestly, they did a really good job.

He'd be a liar if he said he didn't look at their drummer a lot.

His name was Derapchu- he first met him as mutual friends with Parrot. They bickered a lot, but lately, Wifies paid more attention to him.

He had no idea exactly when it happened, but Wifies and Derap started flirting with each other as a joke.

To Wifies, it wasn't really a joke, but nobody needed to know that.

Something about him just... Caught Wifies's attention easily. He was talented and passionate, two traits that explained why he was sitting up there performing.

Wifies was having a hard time describing him, which was unusual. The way he looked so natural on stage, like he was meant to be there.

It was almost mesmerizing. Wifies had mostly forgotten about the conversation, instead enjoying the music.

Occasionally, someone else would start singing, or do backup vocals. At some point, Pangi and Jumper swapped places- Jumper did the lead singing, while Pangi played guitar.

Wifies decided to tune back into the conversation happening around the table, listening in on how Spoke nearly got arrested last week.

Every now and then, while everyone was talking, Wifies would look up at the stage. Derap never seemed to falter, keeping a constant energy. It was admirable.

Wifies didn't keep track of how many songs they played, but eventually, Pangi announced the end of their show.

Wifies was a little sad that he couldn't watch Derap anymore, but whatever. Lifting his glass to his lips, he took another sip. After some more conversation, the four band members showed up at the table.

Right, of course they'd be allowed to stick around.

"Hiiii guys!" Zam called, slinging one of her arms over Pangi's shoulder. "How was it? Did we do good?" It was a little hard to hear her with how loud the whole club was.

"Yeah, it was pretty good. The view was great too." Wifies said, leaning forward and locking his gaze onto Derap.

He definitely noticed, shoving his hands into his pockets and looking away. Despite this, Derap smiled. He looked awkward, which Wifies found cute.

"I hated it and I think it was awful and I think you should quit music." Wemmbu said, earning himself a whack over the head from Zam.

Derap took the seat next to Wifies, still fidgety from the performance. "I hate you."

"What else is new?" Wifies asked, finishing his drink and tapping Derapchu on the shoulder with the empty glass.

"Not much, I guess." Derapchu leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table. Wifies wondered why he was moving so much.

"Are you always this nervous for performances?" He asked, watching Derap carefully.

"Well, no..." He admitted. "This is like- our first time performing knowing that people we know are there, so obviously it was scary."

"Mmmm. Scared of messing up in front of me?" Wifies joked, putting the cup down on the table.

"Well, it's not because of you!"

. . .

It was absolutely because of Wifies.

How could you blame him? You'd be nervous if you had to perform multiple songs in front of someone like Wifies too!

Per usual, Derap spent most of the night flirting with Wifies. As a joke. Derap wished it wasn't.

He basically collapsed on his bed when he got home, burying his face in his hands and still thinking about Wifies.

He was so in love it wasn't even funny. It was actually driving him insane, but he could never get the courage to say anything about it.

After a second of laying there reconsidering all of the choices he's made in the past few months, he decided to get up and actually get ready for bed. It was two in the morning after all.

Derap brushed his teeth, showered, and changed clothes. Once he laid back down on his bed, about to go to sleep, he heard his phone buzz. A message from Wifies popped up.

you up?

Maybe he wasn't going to bed right away.
