Work Text:
It always appeared to me that humans are tasty subjects, weak and mostly vulnerable. Yet, recently I found an exception to my previous assumption. She is quite weird in her own way, which I guessed that is why Pierrot fancied her so much. Presumably he would argue against that if I ever asked, for various reasons beyond my understanding. Therefore, unlike some idiot named Harlequin, I minded my own business until I found my chance to encounter the devil personally.
She looked pale. Fairly different from what I pictured who Pierrot has a massive crush on. She stammered and lied, but stood bold like a scarecrow.
On that note, I was quietly doubting that red-hat giant’s type.
However, I realised she is more to what was seen, I would say that without hesitation. She is…unusual. I cannot declare her inhuman, since I was never human anyways. Who am I to announce that?
Her behaviors, to my perspectives, are limited. Her eyes burnt from a desire for something else, whether it is violent, sex, or unterminated love. She made me doubt if Pierrot haunted her, or the other way around.
Surely, any sane humans would avoid our circus.
I hope?
To end my unwavering curiosity, I called upon Doctor.
“Have you ever heard of any symptoms where patients act differently from what they think?”
He looked at me sideways.
“You mean…lying?”
“Well no, but I should’ve made myself clearer.”
With a short pause, I continued.
“It is more of a causal effect between performances and ideas, you see, instead of simply lying. ”
Doctor shrugged.
“You might be looking for cognitive dissonance. It is…”
“...when people change their beliefs according to their actions. Yes, I know that one. But what I’m trying to find is when…as if…the patient could only choose from various objects in actions or speech, therefore judging to see which fit the best? Something along those lines.”
Doctor looked up from his bubbling potion. I could almost see his confused expression under the bird mask.
“.............................Jester, are you sure you didn’t eat something from Harlequin or…?”
“You know what, it’s fine. Good day.”
“You…too?”
It wasn’t the most wondrous conversation, but I managed to grasp a glimpse of something unexpectedly unearthly.
Trust me, I would know that; I have been called the exact same thing in the previous years. I would’ve spied on her if Pierrot didn’t threaten to stab me repeatedly. I have no desire to afflict pain upon myself, thus retracted.
I am always the pro at patience. It will be a matter of time before I discover her secret.
Still, I wonder why.
