The Pain of Loss

Summary:

Solar is gone, for the sake of "protecting" his family. What happens when Sun can't stand seeing Jack, Solar's son, hurting at the slow realization thtat he might never see his father again? What will Sun do to help with Jack’s pain?

I know I'm the character tags it says Jil-O-Sun, but it's just Jack-O-Moon. They didn't have a Jack-O-Moon tag.

Other tags I couldn't find: mentions of past actions of a character against their will. Mentions of a bounty. Hinted at violence in self defense. Hinted at horrible crimes against will.

Notes:

This is my first short story and my friend Sun and Moon show fic. I'm also helps behind on the Sun and Moon show. I also am trying this while looking at the original from my computer and onto this device. No one has gone through and read this, and im not fixing the grammar and stuff cause this old device keeps correcting it.

Work Text:

Sun stood at the balcony that overlooked the living room of his and his brothers house. Dazzle, his adoptive daughter, played. The girl had dark brown, curly hair, surrounding her deer-like ears and small antlers that sprouted from her head, adorned with purple flowers. Her eyes are a yellow-green, and she has a small deer-like muzzle. As she plays, she sticks her tongue out in a playful manner.
She is wearing a light yellow shirt with short sleeves and stripes, and blue overalls with a sunflower emblem on the bib, which was hidden slightly as she played. Her arms and legs are slender, with deer-like hooves forehand and dark hooves for feet.
She played with her cousin, Jack. His head shaped like a crescent moon with a disturbing, grinning face. One eye has a yellow sphere while the other is surrounded by a purple color. He also wears a small, brown hat. They torso is gray and white, with a green, ruffled collar. There's a patch of darker brown, almost reddish, fabric on the side.
His arms are slender and long, appearing disjointed like a puppet. The colors of his arms are brown and gray. His legs are made of baggy, patchwork pants with muted colors, predominantly white with various colored patches, such as grey, purple, etc, and ruffled at the ankles. He is wearing purple clown-like shoes with moon symbols on them. He is Solar's son, though he was originally made to keep an eye on Lunar, but had grown to be so much more. Thpugh, Jack had been less of himself lately, sadder, despite the fact he tried to hide it.
"Jack?" Sun asked, still looking down at the children in front of him. " can you come here? " Jack looked up, tilting his head slightly. "Yeah!" He said, getting up and heading up the stairs. "let's go to my room for a moment bud." Sun said softly, slowly heading to his room as Jack followed.

Inside Sun's room, Jack sat on the bed as Sun stood in front of him. "An I in trouble or something?" Jack asked, a little weary. "No, no. You're not in trouble." Sun said softly, sitting down beside the younger animatronic. "How are you feeing, Jack?" Jack looked up at the older animatronic in front of him, reaching up to mess with the days on his head. "I miss dad..." He murmured, sounding scared to admit it. "That's okay bud." Sun murmured, letting him play with the days on his head.
Nornallg, Sun didn't let Jack play with his rays. It was something he saved for the smaller kids when he still worked at the daycare, to help them clam down she they were feeling overwhelmed. "But... What if he.... Doesn't come back?" Jack sounded so small, so scared. It hurt, he was just a child after all. "He will, Moon is working on it. Your dad can take care of himself." Sun murmured, hugging the child. "I know..." Jack whispered, hugging Sun tighter.
"But.... I'm scared. I don't wanna lose dad." Jack murmured, his voice breaking. "It was bad enough that... that I.... I did all of those things... And dad had to deal with it." As he spike, Sun's heart broke. "I know..." Sun whispered, running his hand up and down the kids back. " Why won't he come home? " Jack sobbed, clinging to Sun as tight as he could. "Cause he's scared too...." Sun whispered, squeezing hi. "He is scared you, or someone else, is going to get hurt trying to help him." Sun pulled away, gently poking Jack's head.
" He... He is? The younger animatronic asked, looking confused. "Yeah, of course he is." Sun said, adjusting how he was sitting. "He loves you, he loves all of us. We're his family, and the fact that he is in danger means we are at risk." Sun sighed, picking up on of his cats. "He thinks going away, limiting his time with us, will make us safer." As Sun spoke, Jack looked at the car in his arms. "But.... that isn't how it works... " Jack murmured, petting the cat gently.
"Yeah, but he's stubborn. We all are. I'm sure he'll realize, sooner or later, the he isn't doing anyone any favors." Sun gently handed the cat to Jack, the cats purring getting louder. Dazzle knocked on the door. "Dad? Awe you and Jack otay?" Her voice asled, very concerned from behind the door. "Yes, Dazzle." Sun said, affection for his daughter filling his voice. "You can come in." Dazzle slowly entered the room, climbing into the bed with Sun and Jack.
"Why awe you cryin?" She asked Jacl, hugging him tightly. "I'll be okay." Jack murmured, nuzzling against her shlulder. "Why don't I go make mac'n'cheese? We can eat in here, and watch a show on my iPad." Dazzle and Jack cheeree, the gray tabby running off now that they were being loud. "Can we watch Blues Clues?" Dazzle asled, sitting up a little straighter. " Yeah, yeah we can." Sun smiled as he headed down the stairs on the other side of his room to the kitchen.
