Chapter Text
Mr and Mrs. Dursley,of numbers four privet drive, were proud to say they were perfectly normal. They were the last people you would think we're involved in things that were strange or abnormal because they didn't tolerate that nonsense.
Mr. Dursley was the director of a firm called Grunnings, which made drills. He was a big beefy man who hardly had a neck and had a huge mustache. Mrs. Dursley was a thin blonde woman who had a large neck that came in Handy while she was spying on the neighbors. And they had a young son named Dudley who they thought was the best boy in the universe.
The dursleys had everything they could ever want but they also had a secret a secret they are terrified that someone would discover it. They wouldn't be able to handle it if someone finds out about the Potter's. Mrs. Potter was Mrs. Dursleys sister but they haven't spoken in several years in fact Mrs. Dursley liked to pretend she didn't have a sister. Because her sister and her sisters good for nothing husband were completely abnormal. The dursleys shuddered at what the neighbors would say if the Potter's showed up on the street. The dursleys also new the Potter's had two young children around dursleys age. The children was another reason to keep them away the dursleys didn't need Dudley around children like that.
When the Dursleys woke up on a dull grey day were there was nothing but cloud's in the sky. Mr. Dudley hummed as he picked out his most boring tie for work. And Mrs. Dursley gossiped away as she put a screaming Dudley in his highchair.
None of them noticed an owl fly pass the window.
At eight Mr. Dudley left after kissing his wife on the cheek.
At the corner of the street he saw the first sign of something abnormal.. a cat reading a map. He couldn't believe what he saw a did a double take but when he looked again there was a cat but not map in sight. He signed in relief what was he thinking a cat reading map how ridiculous he stared at the cat and the cat stared back. As he drove down the street he continued watching the cat out of his mirror and the cat was now reading a sign. He gave a shake and put the cat out of his mind.
As he drove around he saw people wearing cloaks. They were all dressed funny it must be some type of new fashion. But he was furious to see some people wearing the cloaks we not young at all. He figured this was probably some type of stunt. A few minutes later traffic started back up so he arrived at his job and put what he saw to the back of his mind
Work passed as usual he made several important phone calls and shouted a bit more. He was in a very cheerful mood until lunchtime were he went to the bakery across the street from his job. Until that moment he forgot all about the people in cape's until he passed a group of them. He caught a bit of their conversation
" The Potters that's what I heard"
" Yes the son Harry and his sister"
Mr. Dudley stopped fear flooding him. He looked like he wanted to say something to the group but thought better of it and went back to work. He wanted to call his wife but figured he was being stupid Potter wasn't an unusual name he was sure lots of Potters had a son named Harry along with a daughter. Mr. Dudley wasn't even sure if is nephew was named Harry he'd never even see the boy or sister so their was no reason to worry Mrs. Dudley.
