Work Text:

One minute.

One minute was enough to change one's life. Kim Iwol—not for the first time—thought that it should have been him instead.

Kim Iwol was nothing but a careful man. The moment he found out that he was pregnant, he was immediately glued to his laptop, numerous tabs opened to pregnancy articles. Which food to eat, which clothes to wear, how long he should work—all of those he took into account, just to have a safe and healthy pregnancy.

After all, who else would take care of him? There was no one but himself. Spark was out of the question. He couldn't bear it if news stations suddenly announced that Kim Iwol of Spark—an unmarried man and an idol—was pregnant.

It was a massive lifestyle change. It was a necessary sacrifice. Spark had found out in the end, and despite his initial protests, the pregnancy journey became easier with their support. Kim Iwol wouldn't have it any other way.

There was one time he'd dreamed of a better life, one with his sister by his side and his unborn child in his arms. He remembered naming his child, but when he awoke, he couldn't recall the name he gave them.

That dream motivated him further. It was a period of time where there was a bounce in his steps whenever he walks and a smile tugged on his lips whenever childish giggles reach his ears.

Kim Iwol was nothing but a careful man.

So why, even after all those efforts, was he rewarded with a blood running down his legs and painting his bedsheets a sickening shade of red?

Several voices calling for him were muffled, as if he was submerged underwater. There was a buzzing in his ears as he stared at his own artwork. A masterpiece ruined by a mistake he didn't even know he did.

Kim Iwol did not scream. Tears did not fall from his eyes. His body cried for him as it screamed in pain, a stabbing sensation constantly assaulting him.

Grief cradled him. Kim Iwol mimicked it with his pregnant belly, imagining it was his child instead, born alive and healthy. His body shook when he exhaled.

The little flame which had sparked in him was extinguished as simple as a snap of the fingers.
