Chapter Text

Seeing Caspian be crowned as the third king and fifth ruler of Narnia, just an hour or so before was an… interesting experience, to say the very least.
Peter looked on, toward his siblings: Susan talking flustered with a starlike woman he had never before seen, Lucy talking excitedly with Edmund who pretended that he didn’t care, yet everyone with half a mind could tell you that he truly did. More than he would ever care to admit.

Peter however, could only keep his eyes on them for so long before his mind started thinking yet again of the newest king. As just before stated, it was the day of Prince, now King, Caspian’s coronation. The day he is crowned as the newest king of both the Narnians and Telmarines.

What Peter was looking at though, was not of Caspian’s crown, but rather his face, his fighting prose, the way that he would gladly lay his life down for his people, and for those he loves.
Peter was completely and utterly enamoured with the man.

Peter was taken out of his thoughts when he heard Edmund try to cover up his laugh at something Lucy said, her grin widening greatly as she ruined his uninterested ruse. Edmund gave it up and he smiled. Peter did too, softly, at the loving sight. Today was a day to celebrate.

“King Peter." Caspian came up beside Peter and clasped his hand on his shoulder.
“Caspian. Do you need anything?”
“No, can’t I just want to see my friend?” He smiles nice and lovely, as always. It never could be otherwise, no matter how much he is trying to hide how wobbly it is.
Peter decides to give him some grace and not mention it until they are alone together another time soon.
“I suppose you can.”

Later, as the music is far quieter and only played for fun rather than celebration, the children getting sleepy and carried to bed by their parents, Peter and Caspian, in far less formal clothing than the coronation, stand at a still on a balcony looking over the Kingdom.
“Your smile, earlier.” Peter broke the everso silent moment first.
“...What about it?” Caspian didn’t dare look over at the other king.
“It wasn’t as confident. Still lovely mind you, but not quite as usual.”
“I guarantee that I will answer that question soon, but I must ask, not quite as… what did you say?”
Peter is certain that if Caspian were to look over he would see Peter’s face red all over.

“I did not mean to say that out loud. Sorry.”
“No, no. Please, Peter, do not apologise,” Caspian turned his head over towards Peter, he does not comment on his face at all. “Anyways, to answer your earlier question, I… have been having this feeling recently. About you.”

“Oh?” It is now Peter’s turn to look over, their eyes locking all the same as the first day they had met, their swords clashing together.

“Not- Not just you. Susan, Edmund and Lucy also. But I have been having this odd feeling as of late.” Caspian suddenly turns away yet again, his face out of view of Peter.
Speaking of, the other king cannot help but feel a small pang in his chest at Caspian’s denial. “What feeling, if you don’t mind me asking?”
“One of despair. I feel as though you and the others will be leaving soon. I do not want you to leave me. We have only just met, and even then most of that time has been taken up by war.”
