Cookies are Supposed to be Sweet

Summary:

Mint Graham Cookie has never been sure of herself nor been one to find love but the night has a way of making sure love finds those who most need it

Notes:

Wrote this for my friend's birthday last year and now that I have an account I thought I might as well post them since unlike the fics for our other friend these ones aren't made out of sleep deprivation and a dream for insanity

Work Text:

Mint Graham Cookie awoke to rays of sunlight seeping through the fabric of the shelter only to roll over and cover their face with the blanket praying to fall back asleep. The few short minutes of delusion that she could rest again were cut short by the sound of a rustling tent flap and the approach of footsteps.
"We have to get going" was spoken in a gentle tone
An exhale of annoyance followed by actually getting up was all Mint Graham Cookie could muster the energy for. As she left, the ever warm cookie followed with light paces trending behind. The two sat next to each other on the floor snacking on a couple jellies preparing to continue venturing through Beast-Yeast with the other treats. As the day progressed the pair of baked goods could only worry about what lies ahead of them in the uncharted territories past the Faerie Kingdom in a comfortable silence. Time progressed with routine battles, Pure Vanilla Cookie tending to everyone as the unmatched healer he is, and Mint Graham Cookie applying short buffs to help things move along. By the end of the day the six cookies had covered some good ground across without any set backs in their continuing search for a way to stop the beasts from sending Earthbread into chaos. They settled down in a relatively tame area in the forest to stay for a bit to wait out the night. The sweets were laying down to energize for the coming events but two were not able to find that same solace, something needed to be done but neither could take that initiative. Despite the neglected tensions in the air, the pair instinctively found themselves leaving the rest site to go on a short walk. Walking close but never closer, speaking short phrases but not the ones needed. If this were to go on any longer Wizard Cookie would surely have an aneurysm. You'd think by now one of them would've realized their counterpart's obvious feelings of infatuation. The stroll continued for a couple more moments before the minty cookie spoke up.
"How is it that you can approach someone like me without any outstanding issues?"
"Someone like you?"
"Yes someone like me. It's fairly obvious I am not the greatest candidate for any sort of relationship let alone a friendship"
The warm cookie didn't hesitate for a moment before replying in a soft yet firm matter.
"You shouldn't speak so negatively of yourself Mint Graham Cookie. I trust my judge of character enough to know you're a good person who I look fondly upon. I'm not sure I need any other reason to approach you but even then I could list out more if that'd satisfy your curiosity better."
Mint Graham Cookie paused. She wasn't sure how to process such a heartfelt response, she'd fully been expecting him to change to topic or something similar. But no, he replied compassionately and honestly. It's not common for him to lie and and certainly not about something so trivial, so why couldn't she accept that as the truth?
"Did that answer your question Mint Graham Cookie?"
Pure Vanilla Cookie questioned with a slight quaver in his voice.
Mint Graham Cookie could only nod with her head down in response as she stopped treading the path. The healing cookie allowed himself to do something he had prevented himself from time and time again over the period they'd known each other. He hugged her. It was warm, sweet, stable, and most of all comfortable. It was comfortable. Not awkward or bittersweet, but comfortable. A small gasp came from the fresh cookie which then turned into a small sob. She returned the hug with weak, shaking arms. Pure Vanilla Cookie continued to hold her, whispering small "It's okay"s and "Everything's fine"s. The couple of baked goods stood there for a few good minutes just in their own comforts. Whether or not things would pan out was a whole other question but right there, right then was enough. They just needed that moment of comfort. And that would be enough.
