Chapter Text
Obi-Wan got onto his ship after the council granted him his wish to go on leave. Obi-Wan just needed to get off of Coruscant. His mind felt so foggy. It didn’t feel real. Satine couldn’t be dead. She just couldn’t. He didn’t know where he wanted to go. He just needed to go somewhere quiet. Anakin tried talking to Obi-Wan, but he wasn’t really listening, so Anakin left Obi-Wan alone.
Obi-Wan remembered a quiet meadow he found on Alderaan that he could go to. He got the ship into space and put in the coordinates for Alderaan. The flight from Coruscant to Alderaan wouldn’t take long, so Obi-Wan decided to try and look for Satine in the force. Maybe she was just hidden in the force. He refused to believe that she was gone. After multiple failed searches, Obi-Wan had finally arrived at Alderaan.
Obi-Wan landed the ship on the meadow as he suddenly felt a rush of anger. He wished Satine could have been here, but Maul had taken her away, Obi-Wan had to open up his eyes and see that she was gone. At least he couldn’t be punished for being angry because the council wasn’t here to see. Obi-Wan goes to the forest nearby and starts collecting wood. Maul had extinguished such a bright light in the galaxy. Satine’s time wasn’t up, it was just cut short. She should have been able to see her planet prosper in peace, knowing she made the right choice in staying neutral in the war. Maul had replaced her light with darkness, a true act of the dark side.
The sun had started to set by the time Obi-Wan went back to the meadow after gathering enough wood. He put down the wood and ignited it with his lightsaber. As Obi-Wan watched the embers, he remembered Yoda and Ki-Adi Mundi’s words, how they wouldn’t send help to Mandalore. Obi-Wan started to get angry at the council. How many people have suffered due to the council's inaction? The council said that they were servants of the people, but they seemed to be servants of the senate. The council said that they were keepers of the peace, and yet they refused to keep the peace on Mandalore.
Obi-Wan laid down to try and go to sleep and as he did so, he started to get angry at himself. He should have tried to convince the council that they should go to Mandalore, he should have gotten to the ship faster so they could leave before Maul could get them. He should have reacted in the throne room, at least tried to save Satine. It was just like when Qui-Gon died.
Obi-Wan is back in the palace throne room, listening to Maul’s little speech. Obi-Wan still retorted that only the weak embrace the dark side, then tried to sympathize with Maul, which unintentionally sounded more venomous than sympathetic. Maul then stabbed Satine with the darksaber, like he did to Qui-Gon. As Obi-Wan held Satine, she told Obi-Wan how much she loved him. Obi-Wan got angrier at himself. He’s always too slow, too weak. He should have trained harder. He was never good enough. That was why all the other masters never chose him.
