Chapter Text
(Wemmbu’s POV)
He felt a hairbrush brushing his long purple hair. The hairbrush combed gently, as gentle as a soft feather.
He looked at the mirror in front of him. A glimpse of someone was seen behind him combing his hair. His father.
“Dad, do you believe in me?”
“Believe in what, dear?” His dad replied.
“Believe that.. I will become the best basketball player in the world!”
“Of course dear, I always believe in you no matter what.” His father chuckled. His voice was so soft and gentle.
“But what if one day I fail?”
Silence had taken over.
“Failure isn't something you should predict, son.” His father chuckles.
His father remained in eye contact with Wemmbu in the mirror, Wemmbu did the same.
“You have to believe in yourself, that’s the key to success.”
“What if I never succeeded? I mean- like- like, I never become the best player? ” Wemmbu cuts in.
“Success isn’t always becoming the best, it’s the journey you made along the way.”
His father smiled, and continued to comb his hair with the hairbrush.
Wemmbu looks around the mirror, around the room, and his father.
I wonder if I’m capable enough to become the best player in the best basketball club.
Maybe one day.
I want to start now.

Wemmbu’s eyes shot wide-opened. He then checks the digital clock next to his bed at the bedside table.
7:00 am.
Wemmbu aggressively pushed his blankets off, and went to the bathroom to take a shower.
His first college ever, starts tomorrow. The train to the university starts at 8 am, and Wemmbu is still in the bathroom, taking a shower.
After taking a shower, he quickly dresses up, tying his hair up to a ponytail. He checks the mirror to clean any strands pointing out. He looked around his room once last time, before he leaves it empty for 6 months.
Wemmbu gets to say his goodbye to his dad. His dad was worrying about him as to why he was in such a hurry.
“Dad, I'm going to the train station now, I kinda overslept.” Wemmbu checks his luggage once last time, while inspecting the living room. in case he wants to bring anything to the University.
“What? You haven’t eaten your breakfast yet wem! Why are you in such a hurry? The train starts 45 minutes left and the station is only 10 minutes from here.” His father patted the table, commanding Wemmbu to sit on the table. His father cooked buttered scrambled eggs and apple slices for him.
“Welllll you seee dad.. I’m an early person. You never knew if the line is long and that I have to wait for half an hour!”
“Wem, that’s not how it works- You know what just eat your breakfast already.”
Wemmbu ate breakfast, and as soon as he finished it. He said his one last goodbye. His uber was already waiting on the front porch, ready to pick Wemmbu up.
Don't even ask why Wemmbu ordered an Uber even if it’s just a 5 minute bike ride from his house. Wemmbu’s a brat, he’s lazy.
Wemmbu arrived at the station. He looks back one last time before stepping in the train.
Inhale.. Exhale..
Here it goes.
