Work Text:
Eye was trapped.
Stuck.
His feet weren’t grounded.
Floating… maybe.
How long had he been here?
How long had he been lost in this nothingness?
This void.
This hell.
How long had he been apart from-
…
From…
Who?
Who was he missing?
They had to be important; why else would the ache feel so deep, so hollowing?
He remembered a smile.
Soft. Mischievous. Beautiful.
…
Oh.
Oh-
Vista.
The name struck like a spark in the dark.
His beloved.
Long hair, catching light just right. Eyes that held warmth and something playful beneath it…
And that laugh, gods that laugh
How could he forget?
How could he ever—
A sudden flash of light tore through the void.
He flinched.
The darkness shattered.
He blinked, disoriented, as the world rushed back in around him.
He wasn’t there anymore.
No more endless nothing.
He was… somewhere else.
The overworld.
Still floating. Still unable to move. Still trapped.
But at least there was light.
At least there was something.
His gaze drifted, slow and unsteady, taking in his surroundings
Then it stopped.
No.
…No.
There—
On the ground—
Vista.
Motionless.
A pool of dark, spreading red beneath him.
For a moment, the world went silent again.
Then—
He saw himself.
Standing there.
Clouded eyes. Empty. Hollow.
A sword hung loosely at his side.
Dripping.
With blood.
His thoughts were shattered.
No breath came. No sound. Just a silent, suffocating scream clawing at the inside of his chest.
This wasn’t real.
It couldn’t be real.
Not him. Not Vista. Not like this—
The grief hit all at once, crushing, endless—threatening to tear him apart from the inside out.
And then—
The other one moved.
Slowly.
Deliberately.
He turned.
And looked straight at him.
Those empty eyes met his—
And he smiled.
