Chapter Text
It was supposed to be the start of winter break, Christmas around the corner. Peter was supposed to spend the weekend at Mr. Stark’s, May was going on some work retreat, more money, etc.
Peter didn’t mind, I mean who wouldn’t want to spend a weekend with the Tony Stark?! Of course this wasn’t the first time Peter had stayed there–I mean he had his own bedroom for Christ’s sake–but that never took away the butterflies that filled his stomach at the thought of getting to spend a whole weekend with his idol, and–dare he say it–father figure.
So of course the second the bell rang signalling school was out, Peter yelled by to his friend Ned bye before running out of the school as quick as he could to that black audi Happy always picked him up in.
Peter practically bounced over to Happy who was standing outside the passenger seat door, waiting to open it for Peter.
“Hi Happy!” Peter beamed.
Happy rolled his eyes, “Hey, kid,” he opened the door for Peter who happily climbed in the back seat. Happy made his way back to the driver's seat while Peter got comfortable.
“Thanks for picking me up, Happy!”
“Yeah, sure thing kid. How was school?”
“Oh, it was great–” Peter started to ramble about his day. Happy used to get annoyed, used to ignore the kid and roll his eyes, but he’d grown a soft spot for this kid and smiled softly as Peter rambled, but not too much. He had to maintain that I-don’t-care attitude, but Peter could see his small smile.
At some point the kid’s voice died down. Happy thought he had finally run out of things to talk about, but when he turned at the kid’s face it was hard, like he was expecting something terrible to happen…
“Happy somethings gonna–” Peter’s voice was suddenly cut off as another car crashed into theirs.
There was nothing but white hot pain, burning into his bones, everything felt like it was on fire, his ribs felt like they scraped his lungs with each wheezy inhale. His eyelids felt like they weighed a thousand pounds, he only was able to lift them a fraction before an overwhelming sense of darkness became overwhelming. Peter wanted dearly to close his eyes and let that darkness take him, but something was gonna happen, someone was hurt… what was happening?... He managed to peel his eyes open more, looking around lazily, trying to find out what was making his spidey sense go off. His tired and unfocused eyes finally met a blurry blob sitting in the driver’s seat. Who was…?– Happy! Peter groaned as he tried to get his mouth to work.
“Ha’y,” Peter slurred, trying to get the unconscious man’s attention. Which clearly worked since Happy began to groan, his eyes blinked open as he clearly focused on what was going on.
“Kid…” Happy turned his head in his seat to find Peter. He was slumped awkwardly against the window, blood where he rested his head, besides an obvious head injury and clearly some broken ribs judged by the slight wheeze in each of the kid’s breaths, he seemed to be ok. “Kid you ok?” his voice was rough, he coughed and winced as he did so, God who the hell crashed into them?
Peter blinked lazily at him again, trying to process the sentence he said before he slowly nodded his head.
Peter’s eyes suddenly widened, a bit of confusion crossing them from the concussion he no doubt had, Happy recognized it as his Peter Tingle–as the kid’s aunt called it–Peter’s mouth moved but the only sounds that came out were a garbled mess–God how hard had the kid hit his head? Happy didn’t get a chance to think more about it before rough hands were ripping Peter away from his seat.
He screamed his name but he was roughly grabbed from his seat too, he couldn’t see the face of who it was, both the guys who had both him and the kid were wearing all black and Happy’s mind was too fuzzy from hitting it for him to think about who it was before a needle was shoved in his neck and everything went black.
When Happy finally started to come too, the first thing he noticed was pain, his shoulders, wrists, lungs, head, and when trying to move he noticed he was definitely cuffed to a chair.
“Happy?” A small weak voice broke through his thoughts. Peter!
A groan escaped his throat but he managed to open his eyes to find Peter sitting in a chair, handcuffed, hand behind him, sitting straight across from him. Eyes wide, his nervousness was evident as he looked at Happy with concern.
“Kid?...” he finally managed to choke out.
“Oh thank god!” Peter breathed, “I thought you died! You weren’t moving and I woke up and you were asleep–or dead, I couldn’t tel– and then we’re both cuffed to chairs and I couldn’t remember what happened and then I remembered someone hit your car and–are you ok?” the kid breathed heavily after his ramble, waiting for Happy to respond.
“Yeah, kid, I’m–I’m ok. Are you?” Happy finally found his voice after checking out their surroundings while the kid rambled. The room was mostly an old shade of white, some walls peeling color revealing old brown and red bricks, they were definitely in a cell that’s all right, he could see the bars to their right, and a white door–which was more of a gray thanks to old age– to the far right outside the bars.
“Yeah… yeah I’m–I’m fine, I mean we’ve been kidnapped which hasn’t happened to be before but I’m not freaking out!” the kid’s voice rose to a high pitch of hysteria, clearly freaking out at least a little.
“We’re gonna be fine, kid. Tony’s probably on his way right now as we speak…”
“Right…” Peter’s eyes traveled to the door, “Happy someone’s gonna–” Peter’s voice was cut off by the sound of an old door opening to reveal three men. One clearly the boss, followed by two other large guys in black, Happy could remember they looked like the guys who had taken them from the car–they probably were the guys who crashed it too.
The boss looking one, who was shorter than the two huge guys behind them, had messy long brown curly hair that was delicately placed on his head whilst looking natural, with sharp cheek bones and something that just felt wrong about him. He couldn’t be much taller than Happy, but his height wasn’t what made him intimidating. They could tell by his smirk with cold dark eyes that this guy was not a force to be reckoned with. The two larger guys behind him were well over six foot, broad shoulders and a huge complex, they looked like they lived in the gym.
“Nice to see you two awake.” the boss man said, an eerie smile on his face, far too happy about this kidnapping for Peter’s liking.
“Nice to see you too, although I could do without.” Peter replied with an eye roll. Happy shot him a look, hoping this kid would be smart enough to keep his mouth shut since these guys looked like they knew what they were doing.
“Cute kid,” he said in response to Peter, looking over at Happy.
“What the fu– heck to do you want?” Happy demand, watching his language around the kid, though he noticed Peter’s eye roll.
“Ah, getting straight to it, I like it.” Their kidnapper replied, waving a hand toward his two goons, one moved next to Happy while the other stood near Peter. “My name is Victor Cross, I work with HYDRA, you two are currently in a secure cell in one of our bases. You see we want answers, we want to… mm, how do I put this? End the Avengers, and with how close we know you, Mr. Hogan, are to Tony Stark, we figured you’d be quite helpful–”
“Then why take me and the kid?” Happy demanded in reply.
“Well, a kid with level ten security and access to every floor, including Mr. Stark’s personal lab is bound to know something useful.” He smirked.
“He doesn’t know anything, he’s just an intern!” Happy tried to protest, which landed him a quick punch to the gut by the minion standing near where he was cuffed to the chair.
“Happy!” Peter cried as the man coughed.
“I’m ok, kid,” Happy managed to reply through his coughs, laughing as Victor–though Peter would much rather call him “jerk face”–laughed.
“Now let’s get this show started, we’ll start with some easy questions to warm things up,” Jerk Face said, clapping his hands and turning back to Happy. “Which facility has the weakest security?”
Happy met his eyes when saying, “Even if I knew I wouldn’t tell you.”
“Ah, I think we can change your mind,” he snapped his fingers and the guard standing next to Happy punched him straight in the face, causing his head to snap sideways and blood to leak from his probably broken nose.
“Hey, stop it!” Peter yelled, though his yells were pointless as the guard threw another fist at Happy’s face, now bruising his eye.
Victor laughed, his curled hair falling onto his head fell downwards, dark curls falling in his face, while he laughed. Victor sighed, “We’ll come back later,” he said, a dangerous smirk on his face, gesturing for his goons to follow him as he walked towards the exit. “And next time he won’t be so merciful…” he said as an afterthought.
And the door slammed closed.
The two sat in silence for a few moments before Peter signed and said, “Welp, that just happened…”
