Chapter Text
- Chapter 1 - The Other Side -
Wilson, staring at the postcard in his hand, fingers fidgeting with the pen.
Wilson scooches the chair of his desk back with a sigh and looks up at the ceiling, staring at the popcorn ceiling patterns of his father’s California beach house.
What does he write to his childhood best friend (and crush of like what, five years now?) that he hasn’t seen in a year?
“Hey, it’s Wilson. I’m coming home for the summer, I didn’t really miss you… maybe a bit,”
God, no that’s so stupid.
He lets his thoughts wander for a bit more, knee bouncing as his foot hits the hardwood floor repeatedly, the ball of his foot still planted.
His baggy jeans rub against his inner thigh.
He finally steadies the pen in his hand and begin writing.
“Brando,
I’m coming back to the suburbs for the summer. I’ve missed you kinda. Not a lot though.
P.S. I may have “borrowed” your brown racer jacket for all of the past year.
Thanks.
-Wilson”
Hmm, perfect!
Wilson finishes up the card before he runs downstairs to start his walk to the post office.
Wilson is about to reach the front door when he’s interrupted, by his dad…
“Where are you going!?” His dad says, Wilson freezes,
“Just- was gonna bring this card in the post office… for uhm, Brando. So he, uhm, knows i’m coming to live with mom for a few months,” He says shakily, he absentmindedly find himself fidgeting with the ring Brando had gotten him for his 15th birthday.
“Hm, the Blackwell kid?” he says sharply, he nods, scared of what’s next.
“Very well then, he’s a good kid, you know,” a weight comes off Wills shoulders until he continues.
“Heard he found a very pretty girlfriend back in Georgetown,”
Wilson freezes
a-a what?
His face turns pink.
Before he can think any longer he just nods politely and slips on his shoes before running out the front door.
He runs and runs, loosing breath until he passes the corner store, and reaches the post office.
Wilson look down at the postcard in his trembling hands.
Should I still send it?
Wilson finally works up the courage to open the door, and the sound of a little bell fills his ears as he walks inside.
He walks up to the Mail Slot and slides in the postcard.
No going back now..
Wilson walks back outside with a slight knot in his stomach, looks around and realizes how nice it is, it instantly takes his mind off Bran.
At least for a calm moment…
The wind blows Wills dark curls away from his slightly sweaty forehead, and his dark red flannel flaps slightly in the wind, and the air tastes slightly salty from the ocean.
It’s nothing like Texas…
I wonder what the weather is like in Texas right now?…
and that thought leads him to Brando…
What is Bran doing right now..
which can only lead him back to the cause of his sudden nausea…
Brando’s girlfriend.
Wilson didn’t even know who she was, but he hated her.
Will tried to ignore the reoccurring storm in his head and made the walk back to his father’s house, step inside, just hoping he didn’t take too long.
His father doesn’t say anything, thank god.
Wilson slowly, but quickly at the same time, make his way up the steps.
Which thankfully did not creak under his weight, and made it to his bedroom.
He turned on his ceiling fan and immediately plopped down onto his bed.
After laying with his thoughts for a while, Will sat up, turned back to the wall pushed against his headboard and picked a small polaroid off of his wall.
Bran and him, summer of 98’.
They were by the creek (their creek), the tree that they would lay against for shade when the days got too hot, sitting happily in the background.
Bran and Will were smiling, Bran’s arm around Wills waist, the other one up taking the photo, and Wilsons around Brans shoulder…
it just all looked so…
natural
Will feels a small tear run down his cheek, he couldn’t tell if it was a happy, or sad tear.
He brings the photo up against his chest. He was going back in a few days…
Is it going to be the same, once he makes it to the other side?
