Mage was feeling absolutely ecstatic. Not only did Rhett take his advice, but he got a perfect mark in a field that he loved, AND he made a new friend. Blu seemed like a sweet kid, so who was he to step between that? He knew just how capable Rhett was and he’s glad he’s getting better. After having nagged his friends’ ear off about the good news, he decided to eat outside, it felt fitting for how whimsical it was.
It was rather… eh, bleak to be eating alone outside, but he didn’t exactly mind. The calmness of the wind, the small tweeting of the birds, it all made an enjoyable experience for Mage. He wasn’t exactly expecting anyone to come find him for something, and if someone did, it was usually the younger students who relied on him as a safe haven for things. He did perk up, hearing footsteps behind him, ready for one of the younger students—
“My dear, Mage,” a hand clapped onto his shoulder, with a voice he obviously recognized. “I knew I’d find you out here.”
Goldel didn’t give Mage the time to move over a bit on the bench before he was sitting down next to him, shaking his shoulder slightly before letting go, and keeping close as he flashed a gold star grin at him.
“Goldel!” Mage replied with a grin of his own, setting down his food for the moment, turning his head to properly look down at Goldel. He quickly put his arm around him, tugging him even closer. “I didn’t expect you to find me!”
Goldel let himself chuckle, letting himself be pulled closer to the much warmer body with little resistance.
“What can I say? I occasionally listen when you mention your favorite places on campus,” the confession slipped out of Goldel easily, easier than it would have normally on any other day. Maybe it was how secluded they were from the others, maybe it was the fact it was Mage. “Anyway—”
Before he got the chance to say much else, Mage let out a bark of laughter, a strong hand squeezing Goldel’s bicep where it was resting. Mage looked at him with a toothy grin, eyes crinkling from the smile he was giving him.
Mage was saying something, he swears, he saw his mouth moving, lips forming around words, but it wasn’t processing as Goldel flushed. When did they get this close? When did Goldel start looking even closer at Mage? Well, he always had some sort of staring problem when it came to Mage, but he chalked it up to the pure unit of a man that towered over everybody else in the university, but listening to him, he was quite the magnet for someone like Goldel.
Goldel tried to pull himself back into what Mage was saying to him, catching onto how he was talking about Rhett, that enough was to irk him, especially because the last thing he wanted to hear out of Mage was something about him.
When Mage paused to take a breath, Goldel took the chance to shut him up, in a way even himself didn’t exactly… well, expect. Neither of them did.
Goldel’s hands gripped the unbuttoned collar of Mage’s shirt, shifting his body to lean up, closer, higher, all while tugging Mage lower.
The kiss was clunky- off, odd, even, with their face shapes, but still they stayed close. Mage’s hand on Goldel twitched, then closed, glasses slightly askew from the force of the kiss. His free hand rested on the bench table, letting himself relax, lean into it, Goldel even closed his eye, Mage’s eyes stayed hidden under his lenses. When they pulled away, Goldel’s eye opened once completely away.
They stayed silent for a minute, catching their breath and bearings. Mage was taken aback– not necessarily uncomfortable, but it could have gone better for a first kiss. He opened his mouth to joke, not before Goldel forced himself to let go of Mage and stand up roughly from the bench.
Before Mage could say something, once again, Goldel spoke first, low.
“We don’t speak of this. Not to Lapis, not to anyone.”
Mage only stared, swallowing, searching Goldel’s expression. Goldel left, muttering something under his breath. The next entire week was uncomfortable.
