Work Text:
Postman parked in front of the Player's house, grabbing the box and going to the door, his simple routine he learned to adjust to. He could see the Player watching him arrive from the window, and it honestly felt quite comforting. He smiled at them before going to knock at the door. He hummed along the music of the game, waiting for the door to open and being met with the Player in front of him.
"Hey, welcome home! I'm your postman, nice to meet ya!" He greeted, still in a singsong like tone, before noticing something off with the Player, they seemed a bit.. off. He didn't speak up about it, trying to identify what was making them this way instead of asking it straight out. It couldn't be anything that serious, it was only day one..
He gave in, looking up at the Player and giving them a sad smile. "You okay? You seem quite anxious, as if you're on edge or something"They seemed caught off guard, giving Postman a sheepish smile back and rubbing the back of their head, before sighing and shaking their head.
Postman seemed taken aback at that. He didn't expect Player to feel bad at all, actually. He teleported inside the house in order to not break the game, leaving the box in a corner before putting a hand on their shoulder. "What's wrong? Anything you can describe to me?" The Player turned to Postman, and took his other hand, tightening his grip. "Ah, right. You can't speak. The dev disabled chat." ...
"How about I give you some paper and pen? So you can tell me about it?" Player perked up, nodding. "Alright! Be right back." Postman teleported out and into his truck. Player sighed, sitting against the wall. Once he came back, they immediately started writing their sorrows onto the paper sheets.
This went on for hours, until sunset, basically. Papers flew on and off about their current state, while Postman read through everything, comforting them. Player did have their issues with mental health, and Postman his issues with being stuck in the game, and as soon as Postman realized the sun was setting, he seemed to realize as well how much weight his shoulders had lost, how much he was smiling and how much he felt.. Free? He didn't think that was the right word. Nice? Maybe.
Postman hummed, settling back against the wall the two had leaned against for a while again. "I didn't think you'd have so much happening to you." Postman chuckled without humor, then looked at the side for Player, who seemed to have not teared their gaze from him for quite the while now.
"I guess I just assumed you were a random bored player, or maybe it was just my written dialogue since the start. I'd rather believe the latter, tho." He looked in front of him, staring at the house's environment. He couldn't stare at Player, not right now. He felt oddly strange when the two held eye contact. Probably something with his code.
Player scooted a bit closer to Postman, their shoulder brushing against his. After seeing he didn't seem to mind due to the lack of comment, they rested their head on his shoulder, closing their eyes. They felt content enough to trust him. Postman looked at them and froze for a second. His model was blushing. Dammit. He turned away, hovering his hat over his face with a hand while the other hesitantly wrapped around the other's shoulders.. He very much was not fit for this stuff. He could be heard clearing his throat, trying to brush off the flustered reaction as something normal.
Player looked up at him and could see the pink on his face despite the hat hovering over his face, and that honestly made them giggle. Postman noticed and frowned out of embarrassment, only serving for Player's enjoyment. Was he that easy to tease?
"..." Player grabbed his hat from his hand which caught him off-guard, putting it back on his head for him and then calmly lifting themselves up om their knees to give him a kiss on the forehead. "Wh-" Postman stared at Player with a blank expression, who now towered over the sitting figure, cupping his cheeks.
"Um... Player?" His voice was quiet, and he backed himself up slightly. "I-.. Can you do that again?.. please?" He mumbled, pushing himself back to sit in front of Player.
Player smiled warmly at the sight of seeing Postman like this. It was endearing, weirdly. They leaned over to kiss his forehead, tho this time it was longer and a bit closer to the scalp. Postman leaned into it, and his eyes widened. He could feel the warmth of their lips.
"... I.. I can feel the kisses. I can feel your touch. I can feel, I can feel!" He rambled, giving Player a tight hug that knocked them backwards into the floor. Player gasped for air silently as it was knocked out of their chest and watched him laugh with joy on top of him, repeating the same three words, almost as if he didn't care about the awkward position he put the two in.
Postman sighed full of contentment, falling down and nuzzling onto Player's chest after he calmed down. He could still be seen grinning widely from the post excitement.
"I'm- I can't believe-" Postman looked up at Player, and realized the situation, quickly scrambling off them and mumbling apologies, to which Player just smiled and rubbed the back of their head at, the two sitting up on the floor. "... Well.." Postman started, clearing his throat. He didn't know what to say in the situation he currently was in. Realizing it was night, he mumbled out the first thing he could think off.
"... Do you wanna go stargazing? Maybe?"
---------------------------------
Postman rested his head on Player's shoulder as the two watched and counted the stars. "Aren't they so pretty? Haha." Player nodded to the question, laying their head on top of Postman's as well, nuzzling onto him. The man tensed up, still not used to this amount of physical touch, but god did it feel nice, great. Player could feel the other tensing up and made some space, just in case, and Postman looked at them.
"No, no, it's okay. I like it, really. I'm just not used to it." Postman giggled, tho he did really appreciate the Player's consideration. Maybe this was more than just his job now. He pushed the thought away, he didn't want to think about later.
He settled back against Player, who smiled at him and kissed the top of his head, inhaling his scent softly. "... I wish I wasn't programmed to disappear soon. I want to spend more time with you. This isn't something I can just brush off as another day occurrence.. I can feel your warmth, after not feeling anything at all. It's just refreshing, I guess."
He sighed, disappointment clear in his voice. Player cupped Postman's cheek, turning his face to face them, and smiling at him, a confirmation that it's okay, a beautiful sight, and a "thank you" all in one. Postman was nearly mesmerized, leaning a bit closer, but hesitated, remembering he'd need to leave soon anyways. Player saw the hesitation, and didn't push further, simply giving him a kiss on the cheek. A parting kiss of such. Postman kissed Player's cheek briefly before disappearing.
Player stared up at the sky, counting one more star before getting down from the roof, heading to bed.
